Nemisis Temple at Rhamnous, Greece
Rhamnous is an archaeological site on the east coast of Greece near Marathon. It's about an hour and a half ride from Athens. I'm here in May which is the best time to visit Greece due to weather and tourists. It is so peaceful and quiet here as I roam the site completely alone. There is a little hut at the entrance where you pay 2-3 euros and it's a nice walk to Nemisis Temple and on down a rugged path to the fortress overlooking the sea. Like many Greek historical sites, there is but a skeleton staff due to fiscal restraints. It's nice to walk the area without hassles. This place is a bit difficult to find unless you get a decent map, but well worth the trip.

Ramnous Nemesis | Marathon
The history of Rhamnous is interwoven with the history of its greatest temple that of Nemesis. The deity might have been a local version of Artemis, though her mythological background is a variation on the story of Zeus and Leda. According to this local version, the egg hatched by Leda, from which Helen of Troy and her twin brothers, the Dioscuri, were born, was originally conceived through the union of Zeus, in the form of a swan, and Nemesis, in the form of a goose. The cult of a rural goddess is consistent with the surroundings of the settlement, as her responsibilities included the just division of pastures and the preservation of the status quo in the agricultural community.

The site of Rhamnous (also Ramnous or Rhamnus) was an ancient Greek city in Attica situated on the coast, overlooking the Euboean Strait. Its ruins are found just about an hour drive from Athens.
In the early 5th BCE, a small sanctuary was built to both the goddesses Themis and Nemesis. This may show that Themis was originally venerated here in conjunction with Nemesis: one the personification of Right Order and the other the avenger of Order's transgressors.
The cult of Nemesis at Rhamnous came to a formal end with the decree of the Byzantine emperor Arcadius in 382 CE that ordered the destruction of any surviving polytheist temples in the Greek countryside.

The Archaelogical Site at Ramnous | Marathon
Rhamnous' strategic location and connection to the adjacent ports required strong fortification. The town boasted a citadel surrounded by an 800-metre wall, built over the last decades of the 5th century BC to ensure the safe passage of Athenian war and commercial ships in the Euboean Gulf. The imposing main gate was situated at the south face of the wall and was supported by towers on either side. Military premises took up the upper part of the citadel, while the lower part included both public and private buildings. Rhamnous may have been a rather secluded area, though it did function as a commercial and military hub, which meant it was guarded throughout the year by Greek or foreign mercenaries, as well as by ephebes (young men) on their second year of compulsory military service. The presence of ephebes there is supported by archaeological evidence and must have contributed greatly to the social life of the city.

About an hour and a half’s drive northwest of Athens, the quiet village of Plataea lies on the northern foothills of Mt Kithaeron with a vista stretching across the lush plains of the River Asopos, which conjures ghosts of a glorious, but gory past. Holding the fatal fascination that draws visitors to the site of any major battlefield, Plataea attracts us mainly for its symbolic role in Greek history as the venue of the final battle against the Persian invaders in 479 B.C. On top of this came the Siege of Plataea by the Thebans from 431–426 B.C. – the deciding factor which triggered the Peloponnese Wars. As we take a closer look at Ancient Plataea, we will find that it played its part in history over a millennium before these events, back to Neolithic times and the Mycenaean era. This city, named after Plataea, the Naiad-nymph daughter of the mythical river god Asopos, was built and rebuilt numerous times, spanning the centuries to survive the consecutive rules of Romans, Byzantines, Franks and Ottomans to evolve into the quiet agricultural community of the present day.

3ος αγώνας Ραμνούς - Γραμματικό. Φεβρουάριος 2017
Σήμερα 26 Φεβρουαρίου, πραγματοποιήθηκε για 3η φορά ο αγώνας που ενώνει τον Αρχαιολογικό χώρο της Ραμνούντας με την πόλη του Γραμματικού.Σύμμαχος ο καιρός για ακόμη μία φορά. Δρομείς από την περιοχή , αλλά και από πολλούς συλλόγους , βρέθηκαν για να τρέξουν τα 11 χιλιόμετρα της διαδρομής. Τα γνωστά και πάλι. Ανηφόρα , κατηφόρα και τα τιαύτα. Τι να λέμε τώρα. Τα ζητάει ο οργανισμός μας, κάτι τέτοια.
Ο Ραμνούς ή Ραμνούντας
Ο Ραμνούς ή Ραμνούντας ήταν αρχαίος οικισμός - πόλη και δήμος της Αιαντίδας (περιοχή της Αρχαίας Αττικής και φυλή της αρχαίας Αθήνας).
Ο Ραμνούντας σήμερα είναι αρχαιολογικός χώρος της Ανατολικής Αττικής με τα εντυπωσιακά ερείπιά του να βρίσκονται βορειοδυτικά του σύγχρονου οικισμού της Αγίας Μαρίνας Γραμματικού του Δήμου Μαραθώνος στην ανατολική ακτή της Αττικής, με θέα τα ευβοϊκά στενά. Στο Ραμνούντα υπήρχε λατρευτικός χώρος της αδυσώπητα εκδικητικής θεάς Νέμεσης,που ήταν και ο σημαντικότερος λατρευτικός χώρος της θεάς στην αρχαία Ελλάδα. Ο Ραμνούντας είναι από τους πλέον καλύτερα διατηρημένους αρχαιολογικούς χώρους, όπου ο επισκέπτης μπορεί να διαπιστώσει τη δομή λειτουργίας ενός αττικού δήμου. Ο δήμος αυτός ήταν στρατηγικά σημαντικός για τις θαλάσσιες διαδρομές και ενισχυόταν αμυντικά με αθηναϊκή φρουρά των εφήβων (νέων ανδρών), οι οποίοι υπηρετούσαν εκεί κατά το 2ο έτος της θητείας τους. Η οχυρωμένη ακρόπολη του Ραμνούντα δεσπόζει πάνω από τα δύο μικρά λιμάνια που βρίσκονται και από τις δύο πλευρές του χώρου, ο οποίος είναι φραγμένος ως επάνω, εκτενώς, από την αρχαιότητα και στα οποία λιμανάκια εισάγονταν σιτηρά για την Αθήνα κατά τη διάρκεια του Πελοποννησιακού Πολέμου.

Για 5η συνεχόμενη χρονιά, ο ΑΠΣ Τελμησσός Μαραθώνος, διοργάνωσε με απόλυτη επιτυχία τον συγκεκριμένο αγώνα, που φέτος άλλαξε και έγινε μεγαλύτερος. Έτσι πραγματοποιήθηκαν δύο αγώνες , των 19,,5χλμ και των 6,5χλμ , που μόνο εύκολοι δεν μπορούν να χαρακτηριστούν. Εκτός της δύσκολης και απαιτητικής διαδρομής, οι δρομείς, είχαν να παλέψουν και με την ζέστη. Ο Μάρτιος έβαλε τα καλοκαιρινά του, και έκαψε πλάτες και κορμιά. Όμως τι να πει κανείς για τις παροχές του αγώνα. Οι χορηγοί είχαν φροντίσει για την πλήρη αποκατάσταση. Πλούσιος μπουφές για όλους, μπύρα, παγωτό,κρασί,ωραίο μετάλλιο,σακούλα με δώρα, ήρθαν να κάνουν τον αγώνα γιορτή για όλους. Ο αγώνας υπέροχος, αν και δύσκολος. Χορηγοί , κόσμος και καιρός, ήταν σύμμαχοι. Και του χρόνου. Διοργάνωση ΑΟ ΡΑΜΝΟΥΣ - ΤΕΛΜΗΣΣΟΣ ΑΠΣ . Παραγωγή video hellas.events.
Μεγάλη εντύπωση μας κάνει στο 28 περίπου λεπτό , η άσχημη αγωνιστική κατάσταση του Σ.Π. που μας έκανε να αφήσουμε τον συναθλητή μας Δ.Α. και να μείνουμε πίσω να το μαζέψουμε. Δυστυχώς όμως ο Σ.Π. για ακόμη μία φορά αποδείχτηκε λαγός. Αφού μας άφησε να μιλάμε με τον Σ.Μ., έφυγε λες κι εμείς δεν μπορούσαμε να τον ακολουθήσουμε. Θα το διαπιστώσετε στο 45' περίπου και μετά τον ανεφοδιασμό.Αυτό δυστυχώς είναι το video που ουδείς μπορεί να διαψεύσει. Ας χαρούμε τώρα την διαδρομή και να ευχηθούμε στον Σ.Π. πάντα τέτοια. Ευτυχώς πoυ σηκώνει την πλάκα. Μην ξεχάσεις να φέρεις σουβέρ από Παρίσι, μεσιέ.

Οι κύριοι Ζαλμάς(του Car and Driver), Σ. Νέρης(με τη Porsche 944 του 1983), Θ. Καρύδας(με το Peugeot 504 V6 Coupe του 1972), καθώς κι άλλοι δεινοί μάχιμοι ιππότες των δυνατών συγκινήσεων του δρόμου, ζέσταιναν τις μηχανές τους σε δύσκολη χωμάτινη διαδρομή, στη περιοχή του Γραμματικού.
