Discover RHODES TOWN, GREECE | Day Trip From Lindos | Things To Do On Rhodes Island
Take a step back in time as we spend a day visiting Rhodes Town. Here we explore the medieval streets, visiting several of attractions within Rhodes Old Town including the Street of Knights, the clock tower and Mandraki Harbour (which used to be the port of ancient Rhodes). However, our favourite thing to do in Rhodes Town is getting lost exploring the many tiny streets and alleyways that make up this beautiful town.
For lunch we visited Hermes Greek Grill House, which we would recommend for tasty gyros on a budget in Rhodes Town.

Rhodes is a Greek island steeped in history, there is much to see here beyond the beaches.
We start our tour of the island in Rhodes Old Town. Most of what you’ll see in Rhodes Town was constructed in the 14th century by the Knights of St. John, who occupied the island for 200 years.
From the Palace of the Grand Master, to Hippocrates Square, the many medieval gates, The Colossus of Rhodes, Rhodes Aquarium Museum and the Acropolis of Rhodes.
After a full day of sightseeing, we head to Mimakos Taverna for a night of traditional food and dancing. After dinner comes the entertainment, where you’ll get to experience some traditional Greek songs and dances performed by a local dance troupe.
Next up we head south to Kolymbia to visit the Santa Maria Monastery where you get epic views of the island and 7 Springs, a lush forest that attracts nature lovers with the peaceful sound of running water.
Next we head westward, across the island to the ancient site of Kamiros. Kamiros is worth a visit if you’re history buff like me.
Profitis Ilias is the second highest mountain in Rhodes. People come to enjoy the fresh mountain air and beautiful scenery.
Just south there is a famous wine town called Ebonas. We visited three amazing wineries!
Continuing our drive south along the western coast we’re headed to Monolithos Castle for some epic views over the island. You can climb up to the castle to get gorgeous views of the sea, back-dropped by the mountainous terrain and the village of Monolithos in the distance.
Down the western coast we cruise towards a beach like no other in Greece, Prasonisi beach.
Back on the east coast we head to Lindos to see the impressive Ancient Acropolis towering over the town. While it’s possible to head up to the Acropolis on foot, we opted for the donkey ride for the steep ascent.
So there you have my list of top 10 things to do in Rhodes Island. The island is big enough to keep you busy for at least a few days, if not more.

Rhodes, The Island of the Sun
Rhodes lies 270 nautical miles from Piraeus and is surrounded by the islands of Simi, Tilos, Chalki and Alimia as well as rocky outcroppings like Tragoussa, Drossonissi, Prassonissi and others. It has an area of 1,400 sq. km. and a coastline length of 220 km. The land is by and large mountainous -the highest mountain is Attaviros with 1,215m. height-, with small plains, verdant ravines and river beds, valleys and plateaus and long sandy beaches.
Island of Rhodes has always been a major attraction for tourists from every corner of the world. Whether you like, nature, night life, Culture, History (Rhodes is where Colossus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient world once stood) or if you just want to get-away from it all for a while, and get a bronze-like tan, Rhodes island has it all.
The continual sunshine -an average 300 days of sunshine a year- and the mild climate make the island suitable for viticulture. Its superb climate, the fertile soil and the geographical position are the main factors which have made the island densely populated from antiquity up to the present. Its population today is around 90,000 and they are able to host more than 1,250,000 visitors a year.
Visitors who come to enjoy the island's natural beauty and to get acquainted with its long history. The airport of Rhodes has daily charter flights from many European cities as well as Cyprus, Tel Aviv and Cairo.
You can also reach Rhodes by plane from Athens (about 50 minutes flight), Crete and Santorini. Large ferry boats go daily between Piraeus and Rhodes (the trip lasts from 13 to 20 hours), while there connections with Thessalonica, Crete, the rest of the Dodecanese and international ports as Limassol (Cyprus), Haifa (Israel), Alexandria (Egypt) and Ancona (Italy). Hotels of all categories can be found in Rhodes, with rooms or suites, pensions, and rooms to rent in private houses. Travel Agencies in Rhodes Island can provide you with everything you may need either for your accommodation or exploring the island.
Welcome to the brilliant island of the sun!...

Rhodes Travel Guide
Rhodes seems much like the final frontier of Greece. An extremely windy, panoramic island that's as ancient as any of the Greek islands. A land where ones imagination runs parallel with the old tales of Gods and the seafaring odysseys of yesteryear. Rhodes is the heart of the Dodecanese and a portal into the past.

SEVEN SPRINGS RHODES, RHODOS, GREECE
SEVEN SPRINGS RHODES, RHODOS, Seven Springs (Eptà Pigès, Επτά Πηγές) is a great place to escape from the heat of the summer and enjoy a magnificent natural scenery. It is a romantic destination surrounded by woodland and green, distant about 30 km from the capital, on the road that leads from Kolymbia to Archipolis and Eleousa, towards the mountain area of the island. The seven bubbling springs generate water all year long, culminating in a small man-made lake that provides a natural habitat to tortoises, eels, crabs and a rare fish species called Gizani that lives exclusively in the creeks of Rhodes.
The access to the lake is really popular with visitors and a tremendous experience. The combination of crystal-clear waters with pine and plate trees creates a peaceful scenery, offering the visitor relaxing moments. To get to the lake you have to walk through a very narrow dark tunnel 186 m long. The tunnel, constructed back in 1931, leads the water of the seven springs and river Loutanis to the lake. Almost at the middle its length, there is a well used as an air-shaft. Walking through the dark tunnel with your feet in the running water, is an eerie yet exciting and unforgettable experience that can be particularly refreshing. If you don’t fancy the trip through the tunnel, then you can simply follow a walking path to the lake.
The lake itself is about 200 m in length, 10 to 50 m wide and from 1 to 8 m deep and has a small cascade at its narrow end. It is used as a depository for the irrigation of Kolymbia region. It is the only place in Rhodes where visitors can enjoy a swim in fresh water. Surrounding the springs are beautiful cool pine trees and rich vegetation. There are many little rustic bridges and rivers, numerous footpaths and the area is known for the geese, ducks and peacocks wandering through the woods.,Rhodes is the largest of the Dodecanese islands of Greece and is also the island group's historical capital. Administratively the island forms a separate municipality within the Rhodes regional unit, which is part of the South Aegean administrative region. The principal town of the island and seat of the municipality is Rhodes. The city of Rhodes had 50,636 inhabitants in 2011. It is located northeast of Crete, southeast of Athens and just off the Anatolian coast of Turkey. Rhodes' nickname is The island of the Knights, named after the Knights of Saint John of Jerusalem, who once conquered the land.Historically, Rhodes was famous worldwide for the Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The Medieval Old Town of the City of Rhodes has been declared a World Heritage Site. Today, it is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe. The name of the U.S. state of Rhode Island is thought to be based on this island.

Welcome to Rhodes!
Known as ‘Ro-dos’ by the locals, it’s the 4th largest Greek island in the Aegean Sea and the largest of the Dodecanese islands.
Rhodes has a long and enchanting history, and today prides itself on having one of the best preserved medieval settlements in the world, as well as a healthy amount of beach resorts that make it a mecca for sun seekers.
The north of the island is home to its jewel, the old town, while the south is best known for its natural beauty.
On a drive across Rhodes you’ll see everything from valleys to beaches, picturesque villages and, probably, loads of goats!
And with 300 days of sunshine a year, it’s no surprise that over 2 million people visit every year.
So with that kind of popularity we had to come here and see what all the fuss was about.
We’ve been exploring the island to help you make the most out of your trip. Coming up we’ve got tips on food, money, getting around and language.
But let’s start with our favourite things to do here on the island.
Spending a day in Rhodes old town will feel like you’ve jumped into a time machine and gone back to medieval times.
It’s the oldest inhabited medieval town in Europe and you can easily spend a couple of hours here wandering around and getting lost amongst the windy cobbled streets. (It says we're here)
Navigation can be difficult, so I’d recommend downloading Google Maps before you go (Love Google Maps) to make sure you find the famous Street of the Knights, which runs from the Hospital of the Knights up to the Palace of the Grand Masters, a famous castle that stands tall and proud at the highest point of town.
Having a local expert talk you through everything you’re looking at is so worth it. I booked a walking tour with Rhodes Private Tours and was shown around the old town and the port.
Our tour guide Dimitri was so passionate about the island, it was fascinating to hear all his insider's knowledge…
The level is a bit higher than the level of the sea, so the intention was not to put water in, the intention was to create distance from one wall to the other. So the Turks, all was built to defend the city from the attacks of the Turkish, it was the new military power of the 15th century. Then they had to go down across this mote and cover, go up then behind is another moat, then again up, it was impossible to be invaded, the place.
So no visit to Rodos would be complete without a trip to the beach. There’s a bunch of beaches here and we’ve come to check out Elle beach, which is quite popular with tourists. There’s a load of hotels, bars, restaurants here. It’s a pebbly beach, but what’s quite cool about it is that there’s a diving platform right in the middle of the sea that you’ve got to swim out to.
In 2017 Greece ranked second in the world for the quality of its beaches on the Blue Flag scheme and there are plenty to choose from.
But, named after the famous actor, my favourite beach on the island has to be Anthony Quinn Bay. With its crystal clear, emerald waters and lush green vegetation, it’s totally my kind of paradise.
The valley is named after the thousands of butterflies which set up camp here in the summer, enticed by the vanilla scented Oriental Sweetgum trees.
It’s one of the island’s beauty spots, with it’s green canopy, streams, ponds and waterfalls, making for a serene alternative to a day at the beach.
