Places to see in ( St Asaph - UK )
St Asaph is a city and community on the River Elwy in Denbighshire, Wales. In the 2011 Census it had a population of 3,355 making it the second-smallest city in Britain. Historically part of Flintshire, the city of St Asaph is surrounded by countryside and views of the Vale of Clwyd. It is situated close to a number of busy coastal towns such as Rhyl, Prestatyn, Abergele, Colwyn Bay and Llandudno. The historic castles of Denbigh and Rhuddlan are also nearby.
Despite the previous lack of official city status, the community council had referred to itself as the City of St Asaph Town Council. The local community is passionate about St Asaph's historic claim to be known as a city like its Welsh cousin St David's, which has led to a number of local businesses using 'City' as part of their business name. The city is promoted locally as the City of Music.
The past few decades have seen the local economy in St Asaph thrive, first with the opening of the A55 road in 1970, which took east/west traffic away from the city, and, more recently, with a business park being built, attracting investment from home and overseas.
The crowded roads in St Asaph have been a hot political issue for many years. In recent years, increasing volumes of traffic on the A525, St Asaph High Street, which links A55 with the Clwyd Valley, Denbigh and Ruthin, have led to severe congestion in the city. This congestion is having a detrimental effect on the city, and residents have repeatedly called for a bypass to take this north/south road and its traffic away from the city, but the National Assembly for Wales rejected these calls in 2004, presenting a further setback for residents campaigning on the issue. St Asaph is now home to Ysgol Glan Clwyd, a Welsh medium secondary school that opened in Rhyl in 1956 and moved to St Asaph in 1969. It was the first Welsh medium secondary school in Wales.

Cycle Route from Rhuallt to St Asaph via Pont Dafydd
Avoiding the busy A55 trunk road, this route utilizes a section of highway converted to a cul de sac with the realignment of the A55 some years ago. It provides a useful link to villages and lanes on the eastern side of the Vale of Clwyd. Also to Pont Dafydd, with its literary association with the poem commencing with 'The boy stood on the burning deck.....
St.Asaph Cathedral North Wales Aerial Video
St Asaph Cathedral (Welsh: Eglwys Gadeiriol Llanelwy) is a cathedral in St Asaph, Denbighshire, north Wales. An Anglican church, it is the episcopal seat of the Bishop of St Asaph. The cathedral dates back 1,400 years, while the current building dates from the 13th Century.[1] It is sometimes claimed to be the smallest Anglican cathedral in Great Britain.
A church was originally built on or near the site by Saint Kentigern in the 6th century (other sources say Saint Elwy in 560). Saint Asa (or Asaph), a grandson of Pabo Post Prydain, followed after this date.
The earliest parts of the present building date from the 13th century when a new building was begun on the site after the original stone cathedral was burnt by King Edward I in 1282.
The rebellion of Owain Glyndŵr resulted in part of the cathedral being reduced to a ruin for seventy years. The present building was largely built in the reign of Henry Tudor and greatly restored in the 19th century.
The cathedral made the national press in 1930 when the tower became subject to significant subsidence and the cathedral architect Charles Marriott Oldrid Scott advised of urgent repairs to be undertaken.[2][3] It was reported that the cause of the damage was by a subterranean stream.[4] It made the papers again when work was approaching completion in 1935.[5]

Cycling down the A55 (Rhuallt hill)
For those who dont know, the A55 at this particular place is the steepest part. With a gradient of about 7%.
I have always wanted to ride down it so did so today. It was quite busy but everyone gave me room.
Apparently I reached 43.7mph down the first section. As I continued on, I reached 36mph just before I turned off.
People will criticize me for being stupid but I was aware of the traffic around me and kept well to the left.
It is not illegal to cycle on this part of the A55!
