Rhyl Miniature Railway (24th August 2019)
On the morning of Saturday 24th August 2019, while waiting for the Rhyl Air Show to start (the video of which, can be found here: a quick visit to the 15 gauge lakeside miniature railway was made.
The popular 1911-built line had two steam locos in operation on this day; Railway Queen (Michael) was in charge of the morning's service, while Prince Edward of Wales was seen being prepped up for the afternoon.
This video shows the railway in action during my morning visit, and includes a quick glance at Billy in the railway museum, as well as a a selection of other motive power and stock. The odd water skier can also be seen, out on the lake!
An exciting visit to The Rhyl Miniature Railway Sunday 23rd July 2017
Whilst on holiday in North Wales, we decided to call into the Rhyl Miniature Railway for the first time in 50 years.
This great Tourist attraction based on the West side of Rhyl in North wales, today 'Joan' one of the original 1920 built 4-4-2 15inch gauge steam locomotives built by Albert Barnes & co of Rhyl was the power for my visit. I understand than 'Joan' will be withdrawn later this year for major boiler works to be undertaken as apart of maintaining her 10 year certificate.
It was a special day for me as Vernon one of the Drivers asked me to join him on the footplate for part of the run around the large lake, and I was also informed that if I was intending to video Leander on the North Wales Coast Express, then I might get something a little special, as they would postion their train near to the Main line, where Jubilee 45690 was working a Liverpool Lime Street to Holyhead Excursion, and open the possibility of catching both trains together...This was an opportunity not to be missed.
A wonderful visit, a big thanks to all the staff that looked after me, and something I will remember for many years to come.
The oldest in the UK, 1911 built Rhyl Miniature Steam Railway, North Wales 20/07/2019
On a very windy day, we visited Rhyl Miniature Steam Railway the first to be built in the UK back in 1911, at the end of their working day, for the last service around the lake.
The loco was 'Railway Queen' a 1921 built loco by Albert Barnes. This loco has had a fascinating life before it came to Rhyl.

Rhyl Miniature Railway 17/08/2019
Here we see trains running on the Rhyl Miniature Railway on 17/08/2019. On the day the RMR had their 'Wild West Weekend' on so there were extra trains running including one double headed diagram!
Locos Running:
4-4-0 Cagney no 44,
4-4-2 Bassett Lowke no 99 'Prince Edward of Wales',
4-4-2 Barnes no 102 'Railway Queen'.
The locos were pulling big loads so they produced some good sound going around Marine Lake especially on the steep gradients.
I especially enjoyed seeing the Cagney running, this was the first time I'd seen one running since my trip out to the Strasburg Railroad in the US and also the first time I'd seen 44 in steam on the RMR for years before that. I'd say the Cagney was the star of the show and fitted in with the 'Wild West' theme nicely.
Hope you enjoy.
Rhyl Miniature Railway - August 11 2018
The North Wales Railway Circle visited Rhyl Miniature Railway in Rhyl on August 11 2018, and enjoyed a late afternoon running session around the Marine Lake, with some members being allowed to drive the loco (supervised of course!). The railway is around a mile long and was opened in 1911. It is built to 15 inch (381mm) gauge and still has a number of one third scale 4-4-2 Atlantic locomotives built for the railway by Albert Barnes & Company of Rhyl. The railway was closed in 1969, bur re-opened in 1978, with the new Central station which also houses a small museum, cafe and shop opening in 2007.

Rhyl Miniature Railway
A visit to Britain's oldest miniature railway which was opened in 1911. A 15 gauge railway with nearly a mile of track around the boating lake. The railway has all four of the locomotives which were specially constructed for the railway in 1920 - two of which are operational, one on display in the museum and one awaiting restoration after being returned to the railway recently. Rhyl Miniature Railway - Sept 2017
I paid an impromptu visit to the Rhyl Miniature Railway. They were scheduled to run diesel but it was in the workshop for repairs so they ran a steam loco...I didn't complain! A lovely railway, good value for money.
