Point Richmond, California
Point Richmond, also sometimes referred to locally as The Point. Point Richmond is a neighborhood in Richmond, California, United States, near the eastern end of the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge, between Interstate 580 and the San Francisco Bay. Its compact size and many historic buildings give it a quaint small town feel.
Originally a tiny village known as East Yards surrounded by abandoned farm lands, Point Richmond was Richmond's central downtown area from the late 19th century until the early 20th century, when the present downtown superseded it as the busiest part of town. Since then, its trademark mom-and-pop shops have survived. The Point Richmond Historic District has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1978.
The neighborhood is dominated to the north by several industrial operations, including a large Chevron refinery, several smaller chemical manufacturing facilities and an active Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight yard. Long distance freight trains are put together in this yard, largely consisting of container cars and automobile transports loaded from the nearby Port of Richmond.
Amtrak Train 95 Cab Ride: Richmond to Newport News (2003)
This video was produced by a friend in May 2003 aboard Amtrak Regional Train 95 s it runs from Richmind Staples Mill Rd to Newport News. Train 95 is the daylight full length NEC train running all the way from Boston to Newport News. It's northbound counterpart is Train 94 and the overnight edition are Trains 66/67.
Enjoy all the classic RF&P and C&O signals that were ultimately removed around 2013. Watch as the train crawls through the Richmond Terminal area at 15 mph before opening it up on the Peninsular Sub. Note the still standing R Cabin along with electro-pneumatic point machine in the local interlocking plant.
Touring the Richmond Museum of History, California
Come and join me on my tour of the Richmond Museum of History in Northern California.
Paraphrased from Wikipedia:
Richmond was founded and incorporated in 1905. Until the enactment of prohibition in 1919, the city had the largest winery in the world.
In 1930, the Ford Motor Company opened an assembly plant called Richmond Assembly Plant which moved to Milpitas in 1956. The old Ford plant has been a National Historic Place since 1988. In 2004, the plant was purchased by a developer named Eddie Orton who converted into an events center (Ford Point Building – The Craneway Pavilion).
Richmond was a small town until the onset of World War II brought a rush of migrants and a boom in the industrial sector.
At the outset of World War II, the four Richmond Shipyards were built along the Richmond waterfront, employing thousands of workers, many of whom were recruited from all over the United States.
Thank you for watching!
Warning:
This museum has a wonderful collection of artifacts pertaining to the history of Richmond, CA. Unfortunately, however, the museum is located in a VERY bad part of town, so be careful when you go there.

Richmond, California, a Bluesy heritage
In the post-WWII era the city was host to a vibrant music scene, punctuated by the Blues clubs and restaurants that dotted its working class communities.
Soul icon James Brown and Blues guitar legend B.B. King were among the towering talents that swung through Richmond to play gigs.

But, by the 1970s, joblessness, crime and de-industrialization had sapped energy from the city's nightlife.
It was only a matter of time before the economic slump dimmed the bright signs that once drew patrons to hotspots on Cutting Boulevard, MacDonald Avenue and in North Richmond.
Few of the structures remain, and those that do bear little resemblance to how they looked in those glory days.
To get a sense of the city's musical history, it may be best to talk with those who lived it.
You couldn't find any better entertainment, not just in Richmond, but in the entire Bay Area, said Joe Fisher, a local businessman who frequented the clubs in the 1960s.
Fisher reminisced while strolling down a now-dormant North Richmond block that was once studded with night spots. You could come here, to Minnie Lou's, and just feel very important, a part of something great.

Richmond Ferry
The city of Richmond is moving to take hundreds of cars off overpacked I-80 during rush hour. Congestion relief is coming in the form of two rapid ferries that will have regular runs during weekday commutes between Richmond and San Francisco. MTC and its Bay Area Toll Authority offshoot, along with the Contra Costa Transportation Authority and the Water Emergency Transportation Authority, are partners on the project, which voters made possible. Reporter Mark Jones has details.

A little history on the Juneteenth holiday:
Red, Black, and Green colors are worn in representation of a holiday meant to highlight the supposed emancipation of Black people from slavery in 1865❗️
June 19th, marks the Juneteenth holiday, which celebrates the day in 1865 that slaves in Galveston, Texas were told that slavery had ended. President Abraham Lincoln had actually ended slavery two and a half years prior to the Texas slaves being notified. Union soldiers led by Major General Gordon Granger delivered the good news to those in captivity through General Orders No. 3 which stated:
The people of Texas are informed that, in accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United States, “all slaves are free.” This involves an absolute equality of personal rights and rights of property between former masters and slaves, and the connection heretofore existing between them becomes that between employer and hired labor.
The freedmen are advised to remain quietly at their present homes and work for wages. They are informed that they will not be allowed to collect at military posts, and that they will not be supported in idleness either there or elsewhere.
By command of Maj.-Gen. GRANGER.

Event:
This event took place in Richmond, California. Almost every organization or club in the City came out to join this parade to make their appearances in celebrating the new-found freedom of colored people. A parade such as this one are historical and legendary because in a low-income community like Richmond, California, there isn't a lot of togetherness amongst residents. With so much violence, poverty, and crime going on in the City, events like this are the very things that hold the City of Richmond together. This parade goes to show how beautiful the city would be if we were all to join forces against injustice and inequality. Rich City Rides played a major role in attending this Parade full of colored individuals who filled the air with joy.

Marina Bay, sometimes referred to as the Richmond Riviera, is located in Richmond's protected Inner Harbor. It was developed in the mid-1980s in an effort to clean up what had been up to that point the defunct World War II-era Kaiser Shipyards. Marina Bay was planned as an up-scale residential waterfront community with apartments, condominiums, townhouses, and houses. The area is also home to many retail and light-industry businesses. The city considers it one of its success stories and uses it as an template for other projects.
