Welcome to my vlog from Bulgaria! I spend a couple of week living as a Digital Nomad in Sofia and absolutely loved it. We did some amazing activities and of course I filmed them for you! We did the Rila Seven Lakes hike, visited Plovdiv for the weekend, checked out a free food tour in Sofia, saw all the main Sofia sights, and (my personal highlight) went to see the Rila Monastery. Thank you so much for watching, and of course don't forget to subscribe!

↣ Are you a full time Youtuber?
I work full time online as a 'Digital Nomad' which means I get to travel the world with my fiance (Ed) and not be tied to living in any specific country. I do Freelance PR, teach courses on Udemy (check out my profile here - and of course blogging and Youtube.
↣ When did you start blogging?
I created my blog in 2012 when I was living in America. I was thrifting so much that I wanted to start sharing my outfits online and inspiring other people to look in charity shops. Now it's become all about my Digital Nomad journey and what it's like to be a female nomad.
↣ Where's your accent from?
I'm from the South of England but I currently live out of a suitcase travelling all over the world.
↣ Where is your favourite place in the world?
I fell deeply in love with Gili Air when we visited as a paradise getaway, but Chiang Mai is my favourite place to live. Plus of course, there's no place like home (Dorset in England).

Summer 2017 Part 4: Hiking The Bulgarian E4 - The Rila Mountains
After crossing the Carpathian Mountains in Romania, I took a train to Sofia in Bulgaria and began following the E4 European Long Distance Trail southwards. The Bulgarian E4 took me through the spectacular Rila and Pirin Mountains before terminating on the Greek border.
This video shows my 5-day walk across the Vitosha. Verila and Rila ranges, ending with a hitchhike to Bansko so that I could buy food.
Bulgaria is a fantastic country for hiking in. The mountains are beautiful, nearly all of the paths I followed were well signposted, and there are also huts if you want them.
I filmed all of this on my phone without really knowing what I was doing, so apologies for the shaky camera work.
The video features the songs 'Up Escalators' and 'Abacus' by Edamame:

Rila Mountain The Seven Rila Lakes A Cinematic FPV Voyage
Cinematic FPV footage from amazing Bulgaria!
The Seven Rila Lakes (Bulgarian: Седемте рилски езера, transliterated: Sedemte rilski ezera) are a group of glacial lakes, situated in the northwestern Rila Mountains in Bulgaria. They are the most visited group of lakes in Bulgaria. The lakes are situated between 2,100 and 2,500 metres elevation above sea level.
Each lake carries a name associated with its most characteristic feature. The highest one is called Salzata (The Tear) due to its clear waters that allow visibility in depth. The next one in height carries the name Okoto (The Eye) after its almost perfectly oval form. Okoto is the deepest cirque lake in Bulgaria, with a depth of 37.5 m. Babreka (The Kidney) is the lake with the steepest shores of the entire group. Bliznaka (The Twin) is the largest one by area. Trilistnika (The Trefoil) has an irregular shape and low shores. The shallowest lake is Ribnoto Ezero (The Fish Lake) and the lowest one is Dolnoto Ezero (The Lower Lake), where the waters that flow out of the other lakes are gathered to form the Dzherman River.
The Seven Lakes are a tourist attraction in Bulgaria because of its natural environment. The lakes are located one above the other and are connected by small streams, which form tiny waterfalls and cascades. Tourist accommodation in the lakes' vicinity include a chalet on the northeastern shore of The Fish Lake, at an elevation of 2,196 m.[citation needed] The most common time to visit the lakes is summer, in July and August, when temperature is above 10 degrees Celsius and the risk of sudden storms is lower.[citation needed] During the rest of the year the weather can be severe.[citation needed] The lakes usually freeze during October, and do not melt before June. The ice cover can reach up to 2 meters.

2 UNESCO SITES - Rila Monastery & Boyana Church | Sofia Bulgaria Travel Vlog
We visit Rila Monastery & Boyana Church, both Unesco World Heritage Sites, on a Traventuria tour from Sofia in Bulgaria...⬇ Click 'Show More' ⬇
Visiting 2 Unesco World Heritage Sites in one travel vlog didn't seem like it would be possible! (but it is) We'd heard so much about both Rila Monastery & Boyana Church and getting to them both from Sofia, but the public transport in Bulgaria was going to prove a little tricky.
Luckily we found Traventuria Tours, who offer one tour in on the same day of travel. First stop is Boyana Church, only 30 minutes drive from Sofia center. Then off into the Rila Mountains to visit the Rila Monastery - which is possibly one of the most amazing UNESCO sites we've seen anywhere in the world. Check out Traventuria Bulgaria for all the tours they offer here:
As far as tours from Sofia are concerned, this tour to Rila Monastery & Boyana Church in the same day was an absolute winner and saved us hours of research. Monasterio de Rila will always hold a special place in our travel memories, hopefully that comes across in the vlog.

Musala Peak 2925M (9,596 ft) - Rila Mountain, Bulgaria
Some shots from my trip to the hignest peak in the Balkans :)
Musala Peak in Bulgaria (Bulgarian: Мусала) is the highest peak in the entire Balkan Peninsula, standing at 2,925 m (9,596 ft). The summit of the Rila mountain range in southwestern Bulgaria, Musala is the highest peak between the Alps and the Caucasus and the highest in Eastern Europe bar the Caucasus. With a prominence of 2473 m, Musala is the 7th most prominent mountain peak in Europe.
Musala is situated within the Rila National Park, which is noted for its rich flora, including species such as Macedonian Pine and Bulgarian Fir in the forests on its middle slopes, and fauna; it is one of the easiest places in Europe to see the wallcreeper. All major mountain ranges of Bulgaria can be seen from the top; these include Vitosha to the northwest, Sredna Gora towards the northeast, the Balkan Mountains along most of the northern horizon behind Vitosha and Sredna Gora, the Rhodope Mountains to the southeast, Pirin to the south, Osogovo and Ruy Mountain to the west, and of course Rila.
A Cosmic Ray Station was built on the peak in 1960 with cooperation from the Hungarian Academy of Science. The station conducted scientific experiments using a muon telescope. The station was destroyed by an electrical fire on October 29, 1983.
With an average annual temperature of -2.3 °C Musala is the coldest place in Bulgaria and the entire Balkan Peninsula. Temperatures stay below 0 °C for about 8 months each year. Due to this about 45% of the annual precipitation on Musala is snow, and snow cover lasts for about 200 days (more than six months). Three of the main rivers of Bulgaria, the Iskar, Maritsa and Mesta have their sources near Musala.

Rila mountains, Malyovitsa trip, Bulgaria
Malyovitsa trip - from Malyovitsa resort (1700 mos) trough the Malyovitsa valley to Malyovitsa hut (2050 mos), Bulgaria 2012
Malyovitsa (Bulgarian Мальовица) is a peak and ski resort in the northwestern part of the Rila Mountains in southwestern Bulgaria
The valley of Malyovitsa is situated in the northwest parts of Rila Mountains – easily accessible from the capital Sofia, it is a good weekend, or even a day, destination. About an hour and a half drive via the town of Samokov and village of Govedartsi.
About an hour away from the ski center and above the tree line is located Malyovitsa hut – the main base for hikers, climbers and skiers in this area. Dominating the view is mount Malyovitsa (2729 m.) – with its vertical north wall it it considered as a symbol of the Bulgarian alpinism. Not seen from the valley but not less impressive are the other high peaks in the area, including the highest – Golyam Kupen (2731 m.)
