Thai-Living / Thailand-life
A quick look at our Thai-Living in Prang Sila Thong, Kamphaeng Phet.
Thailand-life varies a great deal, but for us it is a simple, peaceful
village-lifestyle that we enjoy.
Living in a village in Thailand can be a bit of a culture shock at first, but once you get use to your new life-style it seems to fit like a good pair of comfy slippers!

Welcome to Toon & Leigh porpeang farm Thailand (Youtube channel started April 2017).
We live in the quiet Prang Sila Thong district of Kampheang Phet.
The late King of Thailand ~ Rama IX (King Bhumibol Adulyadej) was a great teacher of leading a porpeang farming existence.
Porpeang centres around being as close to self sufficiency as possible & not concentrating on growing one crop. The selling of any surplus goes towards buying essentials such as clothes & fuel etc.
It is a way of life that creates very little waste, uses few chemicals & can help the local community.
The vast diversity that can be achieved within a small area is amazing & brings the farmer closer to nature.
Choosing to live the porpeang way can be a steep learning curve with livestock, fish, fruits & vegetables all needing care & attention.
In addition to the farm we are also constructing a jungle style fishing lake.
Cheers Toon & Leigh

11 STRANGEST Places in Jungles and Rain Forests
From ancient temples; to mysterious lost cities and giant structures; these are the 11 STRANGEST Places in Jungles and Rain forests !
HEY YOU ! There are more awesome videos being made every week, like and subscribe to World Unearthed so you don't miss a beat !
11. Tsingy de Bemaraha | Madagascar
Tsingy de Bemaraha is a national park in Madagascar which offers some of the most amazing natural landscapes in the world. The limestone seabed rose to create a plateau around 200 million years ago, which was little by little eroded by heavy rainfalls until it became the shape it is today.
Tsingy is the Malagasy word for `walking on tiptoes` and this national park justifies its name perfectly with its nearly impenetrable labyrinth of limestone spikes. The Tsingy de Bemaraha World Heritage Site became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1990.
Some of the rock formations tower up to 100 meters (328 feet).
But these spikes are not just spectacular to look at, they are also a home to a great number of endemic species who have adapted well to this relief. Most expeditions to the area find a plant or animal previously undescribed by science.
10. Beppu Hot Springs | Japan
Beppu Onsen (Beppu Hot Springs) is a group of hot springs in Beppu, Oita in Japan. This city contains more than 2500 hot springs all grouped in eight major hot spring areas called Beppu Hatto.
These represent more than 10% of hot springs in Japan and statistic show that 130,000 tons of discharge is released each day which is only second to the amount of discharge being released daily from hot springs in Yellowstone National Park.
The most famous attraction of Beppu are the `Eight Hells`, eight hot springs where water temperature gushes out sometimes at 150 C, and at different colors.
For example, Umi-Jigoku has a lovely cobalt blue color, but is boiling at 98 C. Kamado-Jigoku is flaming red, and then there is Oniyama-Jigoku which hosts about 80 alligators.
Shiraike-Jigoku is milky green, resembling a Japanese zen garden. Tatsumaki-Jigoku has a spout that can reach 50 meters without the stone plate blocking it, but it`s also the hottest at 150 C and so on. Every hot spring is unique and different.
9.Wat Rong Khun | Thailand
Wat Rong Khun, better known as the White Temple is a contemporary, privately owned art exhibit in the style of Buddhist temple, designed, constructed and opened for public in 1997 by Chalermchai Kositpipat.
In the late 20th century the original Wat Rong Khun was in a pretty awful state and there were no funds for repairs to be made, so a local artist from Chiang Rai completely rebuilt it with his own money. The artist intends for the space around the temple to be a center of learning and meditation
When completed, the White Temple compound will have nine buildings, including the existing ubosot, a hall of relics, a meditation hall, an art gallery, and living quarters for monks.
Murals in the Ubosot depict demon faces but also celebrities like Michael Jackson, Neo (Matrix), Freddy Krueger and Terminator along with images depicting how humanity is destroying the earth by exploiting its resources, warfare and terrorist attacks.
There is also a presence of Harry Potter, Superman and Hello Kitty which confuse the message somewhat.
8.Goblin Forest, New Zealand
Pembroke Road from the Taranaki town of Stratford lead to the area of Mount Taranaki known as East Egmont. Many walks begin here, but many visitors come exclusively to walk through the Goblin Forest, also known as the Kamahi Walk.
This forest looks like a scene from a fantasy movie. It is primarily kamahi trees which began life perched on the trunks of other trees. Their trunks and branches have grown through and around the existing trees, creating the distinctive twisted forest. Hanging mosses, liverworts and ferns have added to the strange effect.
Mt. Taranaki is an active, but a quiescent volcano located in the Taranaki region on the west coast of New Zealand`s North Island. Egmont Park has thirteen entrances so this mountain is sometimes called `most climbed mountain` as it`s so accessible.

Kenya: Woman champions tree planting
Njeri Meresa, VoicesofAfrica mobile reporter in Unguja, Kenya (16 May 2010) It is Thursday, mid afternoon. The sun is blazing; the clouds are forming, a sign that it will rain later in the day. As usual, the Busia-Kisumu highway is a haven of action; vehicles, motorbikes, bicycles and pedestrians proving how busy they are.
Besides the road, not far away from the Ugunja town Centre, there's a beautiful scene that can provide one with a cold resting place especially when the weather is hot. The open place, circled by a fence and a small wooden gate provides refreshing air.
This is Odoro Nyasi self help tree nursery. It is where Mrs. Grace Nyonje, a 40 year old widow ekes her living by managing and selling tree seedlings to the public. Her husband died in 1987, leaving her with two daughters to take care of.
'I started the tree nursery project in 2008 to conserve the environment and sustain my family,' she says. Through the initiative, she has managed to educate her daughters up to form four levels.
How did the community members initially receive the project? 'Most people in the community discouraged me claiming that as a woman, I lacked the nerves of running this project but I soldiered on,' says Grace.
The discouragements did not weigh her down and through determination and hard work, she has been able to come this far. In fact, her willpower has changed the community's perception as she's now being backed to take the business to greater heights.
She operates from an open area. She has to part with Ksh. 500 every month as rent for the space she occupies but given that her business is still not that stable, the Ugunja Town Council is giving her time to stabilize the business.
The establishment of tree seedlings starts with seed collection. Seeds are collected from nearby forests and in people's homesteads. This is followed by mixing of the soil with organic manure.
Portable seed beds are then made by putting the mixture into sizeable round polythene bags. Seeds are then planted into the seedbeds. The seedlings are then transplanted into Polly tubes after one week to one month depending on the tree species or variety.
At the Odoro Nyasi self help tree nursery, tree varieties include Gravellier Robusta, Eucalyptus, Grandees and Dovyils Caffra (Kayappa) among others. Green, golden and red flowers make part of the flower species that madam Graca trades in while Mangifera Indica (Mango), Persy Americana (Avacado) and Papy Carrica complete the list of fruit trees.
Graca sells her wares to community members who turn up at the tree nursery. Besides, she takes the seedlings to Ugunja open air market during market days. What determines the price of these seedlings?
'Price depends on the variety and size. As such, the price ranges from Ksh. 5 to Ksh. 200,' says Grace. She says that despite ensuring environmental conservation, the business pays since it puts food on her table on daily basis.
She challenges women as such: 'Anything one does has returns. They should not disregard some jobs claiming that they are a man's venture; Women should come up and join the war to conserve the environment'.
Grace says that she plans to engage the entire public on the importance of trees as pertains to environmental preservation.

The Vietnam War: Reasons for Failure - Why the U.S. Lost
In the post-war era, Americans struggled to absorb the lessons of the military intervention. About the book:
As General Maxwell Taylor, one of the principal architects of the war, noted, First, we didn't know ourselves. We thought that we were going into another Korean War, but this was a different country. Secondly, we didn't know our South Vietnamese allies... And we knew less about North Vietnam. Who was Ho Chi Minh? Nobody really knew. So, until we know the enemy and know our allies and know ourselves, we'd better keep out of this kind of dirty business. It's very dangerous.
Some have suggested that the responsibility for the ultimate failure of this policy [America's withdrawal from Vietnam] lies not with the men who fought, but with those in Congress... Alternatively, the official history of the United States Army noted that tactics have often seemed to exist apart from larger issues, strategies, and objectives. Yet in Vietnam the Army experienced tactical success and strategic failure... The...Vietnam War...legacy may be the lesson that unique historical, political, cultural, and social factors always impinge on the military...Success rests not only on military progress but on correctly analyzing the nature of the particular conflict, understanding the enemy's strategy, and assessing the strengths and weaknesses of allies. A new humility and a new sophistication may form the best parts of a complex heritage left to the Army by the long, bitter war in Vietnam.
U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger wrote in a secret memo to President Gerald Ford that in terms of military tactics, we cannot help draw the conclusion that our armed forces are not suited to this kind of war. Even the Special Forces who had been designed for it could not prevail. Even Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara concluded that the achievement of a military victory by U.S. forces in Vietnam was indeed a dangerous illusion.
Doubts surfaced as to the effectiveness of large-scale, sustained bombing. As Army Chief of Staff Harold Keith Johnson noted, if anything came out of Vietnam, it was that air power couldn't do the job. Even General William Westmoreland admitted that the bombing had been ineffective. As he remarked, I still doubt that the North Vietnamese would have relented.
The inability to bomb Hanoi to the bargaining table also illustrated another U.S. miscalculation. The North's leadership was composed of hardened communists who had been fighting for independence for thirty years. They had defeated the French, and their tenacity as both nationalists and communists was formidable. Ho Chi Minh is quoted as saying, You can kill ten of my men for every one I kill of yours...But even at these odds you will lose and I will win.
The Vietnam War called into question the U.S. Army doctrine. Marine Corps General Victor H. Krulak heavily criticised Westmoreland's attrition strategy, calling it wasteful of American lives... with small likelihood of a successful outcome. In addition, doubts surfaced about the ability of the military to train foreign forces.
Between 1965 and 1975, the United States spent $111 billion on the war ($686 billion in FY2008 dollars). This resulted in a large federal budget deficit.
More than 3 million Americans served in the Vietnam War, some 1.5 million of whom actually saw combat in Vietnam. James E. Westheider wrote that At the height of American involvement in 1968, for example, there were 543,000 American military personnel in Vietnam, but only 80,000 were considered combat troops. Conscription in the United States had been controlled by the President since World War II, but ended in 1973.
By war's end, 58,220 American soldiers had been killed, more than 150,000 had been wounded, and at least 21,000 had been permanently disabled. According to Dale Kueter, Sixty-one percent of those killed were age 21 or younger. Of those killed in combat, 86.3 percent were white, 12.5 percent were black and the remainder from other races. The youngest American KIA in the war was PFC Dan Bullock, who had falsified his birth certificate and enlisted in the US Marines at age 14 and who was killed in combat at age 15. Approximately 830,000 Vietnam veterans suffered symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder. An estimated 125,000 Americans fled to Canada to avoid the Vietnam draft, and approximately 50,000 American servicemen deserted. In 1977, United States President Jimmy Carter granted a full, complete and unconditional pardon to all Vietnam-era draft dodgers. The Vietnam War POW/MIA issue, concerning the fate of U.S. service personnel listed as missing in action, persisted for many years after the war's conclusion.

Hong Kong Kai Tak Airport (1925 - 1998) 香港啟德機場
First of all, this is a collection from YouTube. I would like to thank all the enthusiasts from YouTube especially Mr. Boyd Kelly (airboyd of YouTube) which I used their best fragments in making this special Kai Tak video. Background music from 633 Squadron by Mr. Ron Goodwin.
Kai Tak Airport VHHH (1925 - 1998) VHHX (since 1998) traditional Chinese: 啟德機場 was the world's busiest international airport. The growth of Hong Kong put a strain on the airport's capacity. The airport was designed to handle 24 million passengers per year but in 1996, Kai Tak had already handled 29.5 million passengers, plus 1.56 million tonnes of freight, making it the third busiest airport in the world in terms of passenger traffic, and first in terms of cargo. However extremely busy Kai Tak was located in the city center, the Kowloon City 九龍城 (The city of nine dragons city surrounded by nine mountains), around by high density buildings, numerous skyscrapers and rugged mountains reaching an altitude of 2000 ft. with single narrow runway (13/31) very close to taxiway jutting out into Victoria Harbour, and further less than 10 Km is Hong Kong Island, another densely populated area with hills up to 2100 ft. The only way approach to Runway 13 was a sharp 47-degree right turn before and of the same level with the checkerboard (a small hill painted with red and white checkerboard at 1:18) at about 100-meter altitude then align with the runway. Often with strong crosswinds, the airport was infamously difficult to land at. However, due to the same reasons, only experience pilots were chosen for the challenging approach and air crash incidents rarely occur.
The low altitude manoeuvre was so spectacular that crowded streets of people, multi-storey buildings, vehicles and pavements can easily be touch. I can hear WOW or My God from passengers when they aware of the home decorations through apartment windows which is of the same level with the aircraft like flickering of televisions even children say Hi to them before landing. In this video, you can found the most extremely landing, but these happened several hundred times per day, and was just the real daily life of Hong Kong people.
