CRHnews - Met police officer rings town crier's bell to welcome Prince George
A Metropolitan police officer announced the birth of Royal Baby Prince George by ringing a town crier's magnificent bell while on duty outside the Lindo wing of St Mary's hospital, Paddington.
The good-hearted copper had been shepherding the huge media contingent when he accepted an invitation by Royal Town Crier Tony Appleton to have a go at ringing the most famous bell in the world that proclaimed the birth of a future king of England.
Tony sensationally caused a huge media scrum when he wrote his own chapter in history when he became the first crier to announce a Royal birth since modern monarchs did away with town criers and went on radio.
To see Tony's two mega proclamation videos outside Lindo Wing filmed by his personal stunt co-ordinator and made available exclusively to CRHnews go to:
To see Tony's proclamation outside Buckingham Palace go to:
Tony, 75, of Chelmsford, Essex, made his historic proclamation with live coverage from BBC News 24 and Sky News reaching every corner of the globe.
The proclamation was crafted by former Press Association 'Royal Reporter' Tom Corby, of Writtle, who was rewarded by becoming a Member of the Royal Victorian Order by Her Majesty the Queen for his journalist services.
Dozens of international TV crews and 500 photographers who had camped out for weeks with nothing much to do were at long last given something to focus on when red-tuniced Tony leapt out of a taxi and strode to the steps of the Lindo Wing to make history.
One Fleet Street snapper exclaimed: Everyone was desperate for something to capture the moment when suddenly Tony began shouting outside the Wing, he was brilliant and fully deserved grabbing the publicity across the world, what a character!

Middleton Pace Egg Play 2012
Pace Egg Plays are traditional mumming plays performed during Eastertide, mainly in the north-western corner of England. They are typically hero-combat plays - usually featuring a character based on Saint George - with fight scenes and the revival of a protagonist by a doctor. One well-established example is the Middleton play, shown in the video. Due to the inclement weather of Easter 2012 this particular performance was made inside the (packed!) bar of the Ring O' Bells public house - the play is more usually performed outside the pub and followed by traditional Easter Egg Rolling for the children.

Crete There was nothing else before it in the history of war.
Much worse was to follow.
Ferocious battles that changed history forever.
Warship versus warplane.
It started at an island.
A Greek island called Crete.
And it was no myth.
The cost was immense but They wouldn't have it any other way, would they?
Where did it start?
Events of cataclysmic proportions engulfed those involved.
In the end, after this battle, it was confirmed that the Royal Navy was the senior service.
They never let the British Army down.
Nazi forces invaded mainland Greece after the Italians failed.
A valiant British Army and Allied defence bought time.
The navy evacuated thousands of troops from Greece to Crete.
Soon another evacuation would follow the first.
Before that, the first airborne invasion in military would take place.
Thousands on both sides would die in a seesaw battle on sunny Crete.
With no air cover the Allies fought for survival.
They almost won.
Royal Navy ships saved the day, at enormous cost, slugging it out with Nazi diver bombers.
Cunningham said to Churchill:
It takes three years to build a ship, three centuries to build a tradition.
Warship losses were 3 cruisers:
HMS Fiji, Gloucester and Calcutta;
6 destroyers:
HMS Greyhound, Kelly, Kashmir, Hereward, Imperial and Juno.
It didn't stop there; a carrier and two battleships were crippled, along with other damaged destroyers and cruisers.
The Royal Navy didn't let the British Army down...
Pace Egging in Middleton - The Olde Boars Head pub 2017
From Wikipedia - The Pace Egg Plays are an Easter tradition in rural English culture The tradition was once widespread throughout England, but is now only practised in a few areas, particularly Lancashire and West Yorkshire.
The Pace Egg Plays are traditional village plays in the tradition of the medieval mystery plays in which the figure of St George smites all challengers, and the fool, Toss Pot, rejoices. The drama takes the form of mock combat between the hero and villain, in which the hero is killed and brought back to life, often by a quack doctor.
Many Pace Egg plays died out after the Great War, when many of the men who took part in them were killed in action. In Middleton, North Manchester, Pace Egging (performing the Pace Egg Play) was revived in 1967.
