The reunion marked the completion of a major refurbishment of the New Forest District Council run centre
The cast members of iconic 90s sitcom The Brittas Empire have reopened a leisure centre where the show was shot - and revealed a comeback could be looming.
Members of the popular show, which ran for seven seasons from 1991 to 1997, met for the first time in 20 years at Ringwood Health and Leisure Centre, Bournemouth.
The reunion marked the completion of a major refurbishment of the New Forest District Council run centre.
The show, which filmed all its exterior and swimming pool scenes at the complex, saw Chris Barrie take on the role of ambitious but largely unsuccessful leisure centre manager Gordon Brittas.
Barrie, who cut the ribbon at the refurbished centre, said he would love to see Brittas Empire return with a modern day version.
“The bedrock of any show is the writing, especially the original writing duo of Richard Fegen and Andrew Norriss,” he said.
“It would be interesting to see Mr Brittas in the 21st century because in the last 20 years things in the world have changed dramatically.
“I think we do live in a very different place now and it will great to see Mr Brittas cope with that world.
The best people to bring that to life would be Fegen and Norriss.”
The event at the centre drew large crowds who took the opportunity to meet the cast.
“It’s slightly surreal seeing people you worked with 20 years ago and seeing them again, most of who you haven’t seen at all in that time,” the 57-year-old added.
Pippa Haywood, who played Gordon’s wife Helen in the show, said: “It’s been amazing and such a thrill to see the cast come together again.
“It’s incredible how similar it is.
We shot so many scenes walking up this drive here - I remember quite clearly a pile of elephant dung on the ground which I was strategically positioned into.

RINGWOOD ROAD TRIP PART 6
Jim Barrington at public meeting Ringwood, November 25th 1991
This is Jim Barrington speaking at a public meeting organised by the League Against Cruel Sports (LACS) at Greyfriars, Ringwood, Hampshire on the evening of Monday November 25th 1991. This public meeting was packed with hunt supporters. At the time Jim Barrington was Executive Director of the LACS. Within just a few years his substantial wages were paid by the hunt supporters as he switched sides and spoke for hunting. Jim Barrington is now the Animal Welfare Consultant for the pro-hunt Countryside Alliance. In my opinion Jim now speaks for hunting with but a fraction of the passion and belief that he once spoke against it. Inside A Factory 2: Cadbury's
- Inside A Factory 2: Cadbury's- 28 mins, 2010
This is the story of how Cadbury's makes a chocolate bar. TV personality Alison Hammond takes us round their famous factory and explains the systems that underpin the process.
QUALITY CONTROL: The process begins with the raw materials - beans brought from Ghana. Quality control and process control systems are vital to chocolate production, ensuring that the right ingredients are mixed at the right temperature.
AUTOMATION: Cadbury's have a computer system which ensures each part of its production process works in harmony with the rest. In the old days, the chocolate was packed by hand. Now everything is done by machines.
OBESITY: Cadbury's say their chocolate has been around since long before obesity was a national issue - but can they avoid responsibility for Britain's this growing health problem?
