Video Podcast 25- Rinnoji Temple Garden, Sendai
A beautiful, serene garden near Sendai. I've been meaning to upload this for quite a while. Despite the video perhaps being relatively poor quality and only 480p, I think this is the best footage I've ever captured of a Japanese garden. Video can show it's dynamic, living qualities in a way photography can only dream of doing.
Hopefully, with the advent of 1080p capture and beyond, such subjects can be taken more seriously by more people than ever before.
Finding Sendai’s Rinnō-ji Temple | Japan 2016 | Episode 14 Pt 2
Part 2 of this episode finds us closing in on Rinnō-ji Temple, as we navigate through a residential area of Sendai. We pickup where part 1 left us, being tempted by a liquor grocery store we happened upon along the way. We made the correct decision and continued to the temple.
It was getting late in the day, we didn’t have much sunlight left, and as it would turn out we took a rather round about way to the temple. Instead of following Google Maps directly to the temple entrance, we decided to explore an area on the map which was conspicuously absent of buildings, but was dotted with other temples and shrines.
What we found was a vast complex of cemeteries and temples and followed a small path along a cemetery and small homes on the top of a large hill.
On this round about route we walked through the grounds of Shifuku-ji Temple, with it’s large main hall, smaller shrines and a small little bamboo forest.
By the time we reached our main destination for the day, Rinnō-ji Temple, we had just enough light left to explore it’s amazing gardens, with ponds, koi fish, beautifully manicured trees and a large pagoda. Other than some men tying up the trees, getting them ready for winter, we had the entire place to ourselves. It was a peaceful experience strolling through the gardens, taking in it’s beauty.
We took a slightly different route back to the hotel, but I strategically plotted our course so we would hit that large liquor store, which at this point we thought was more grocery store. But when we entered we quickly realized it was a massive liquor store, and we spent a good bit of time exploring all the interesting liquors, beers, sakes and snacks it had on offer.
By the time we reached the hotel we were wiped. We also wanted to get to sleep early so we would be well rested for our visit to Yamedera the next day, should the wind cooperate. We decided on a convenience store dinner in our room and hit up a Lawson right next door to our hotel to pick up a few items.

Nikko Rinnoji Temple (日光 輪王寺), Nikko, Japan
Rinnoji Temple (日光 輪王寺) is part of the Nikko UNESCO World Heritage temples and shrines and is located in the Nikko district. It is the largest temple in the Nikko area.
This temple belongs to the Tendai Sect of Buddhism and one of the three largest temples for the followers of this sect.
Two main buildings are part of this temple. One is called Sanbutsu-do, which houses three large statues of Buddha, which are wrapped by Gold. Unfortunately we are not allowed to video the insides of these statues. The second is Dai Goma-do, which is used to conduct Goma, which is a Buddhist ritual that involves creating a Holy Fire to pray to Lord Buddha.
There is also a large bronze lantern and a piller located in the temple precincts. The name of the piller is Sorinto Piller. It is built to commemorate world peace.
Enjoy!

???????? Sendai and Matsushima - Amazing Travel Vid! (HD)
Before the earthquake and tsunami.
Sendai (仙台市 Sendai-shi?) is the capital city of Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, and the largest city in the Tōhoku Region. In 2005, the city had a population of one million, and was one of Japan's 19 designated cities. The city was founded in 1600 by the daimyo Date Masamune, and is well known by its nickname, the City of Trees (杜の都 Mori no Miyako?) there are about 60 zelkova trees on Jōzenji Street (定禅寺通 Jōzenji dōri?) and Aoba Street (青葉通 Aoba dōri?).
In the summer, the Sendai Tanabata Festival, the largest Tanabata festival in Japan, is held. In winter the trees are decorated with thousands of lights for the Pageant of Starlight (光のページェント), lasting through most of December.
On 11 March 2011, coastal areas of the city suffered catastrophic damage from a magnitude 9.0 offshore earthquake[1][2][3] which triggered a destructive tsunami.[4]
Matsushima (松島?) is a group of islands in Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. There are some 260 tiny islands (shima) covered in pines (matsu) -- hence the name -- and is ranked as one of the Three Views of Japan.
