Rinpung Dzong (Paro Dzong), Paro, Bhutan
Rinphung Dzong, Paro, Bhutan.
Rinphung Dzong was consecrated in 1645 by Shabdrung Nawang Namgyal on the site of smaller fort. Throughout the 17th and 18th centuries it served as a bastion against invasion from the north. It is regarded as one of the finest Bhutanese architecture - with intricate wood work, large beams slotted into each other and held together without nails. In it houses the giant 30m X 45m Thangka (Thongdrol), commissioned in mid 18th century, displayed on the last day of Paro Tsechu festival. Rinphung Dzong is the district headquarter of Paro and residence of state monks under Paro rabdey.

Rinpung Dzong Monastery : Paro, Bhutan
Rinpung Dzong is a large dzong - Buddhist monastery and fortress of the Drukpa Lineage of the Kagyu school in Paro District in Bhutan. It houses the district Monastic Body and government administrative offices of Paro Dzongkhag.
In the 15th century local people offered the crag of Hungrel at Paro to Lama Drung Drung Gyal, a descendant of Pajo Drugom Zhigpo. Drung Drung Gyal built a small temple there and later a five storied Dzong or fortress which was known as Hungrel Dzong.
In the 17th century, his descendants, the lords of Hungrel, offered this fortress to the Drukpa hierarch, Ngawang Namgyal, the Zhabdrung Rinpoche, in recognition of his religious and temporal authority. In 1644 the Zhabdrung dismantled the existing dzong and laid the foundations of a new dzong. In 1646 the dzong was reconsecrated and established as the administrative and monastic centre of the western region and it became known as Rinpung Dzong.
Some scenes in the 1993 film Little Buddha were filmed in this dzong.

Ringpung Dzong (Paro Dzong) and Ta Dzong (National Museum)
Rinpung Dzong (also known as Paro Dzong) was builit in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the then ruler of Bhutan. The approach to the Dzong is through a traditional covered bridge called Nemi Zam. The dzong is a massive fortress. The Dzong houses the monastic bodies and many important offices of Paro, like that of the judge. However, the dzong is open to the visitors and allowed for photography. The design and architecture is wonderful. There is a beautiful Lhakhang inside the dzong. Some films like Little Buddha were filmed in and around this dzong.
Ta Dzong (or Bhutan National Museum) is located above Ringpung Dzong. You may go by road or climb through a short cut route through the mountain. The entry fee for Ta dsong is 10 nu for locals, 50 nu for SAARC and 200 nu for outside tourists. Photography not allowed inside museum. As the dzong is located at great height, the whole paro town is clearly visible from here. The views of himalayan mountains and the river paro chu are magnificent from here.

Rinpung Dzong a fortress-monastery overlooking the Paro valley has a long history. A monastery was first built on the site by Padma Sambhava at the beginning of the tenth century, but it wasn't until 1644 that Ngawang Namgyal built a larger monastery on the old foundations, and for centuries this imposing five storey building served as an effective defence against numerous invasion attempts by the Tibetans.[2]. more info please visit:en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rinpung_Dzong
