Places to see in ( Ripley - UK )
Ripley is a village in Surrey, England. The village has existed since Norman times – the chancel of the church of St. Mary Magdalen shows construction of circa 1160 there and supporting feet of fines and ecclesiastical records mention the village at the time. Ripley's sister village of Send to the south-west was the governing parish over the village for over 700 years until 1878 when they became two separate ecclesiastical parishes; they became separate civil parishes in 1933.
Lying on the main road from London to Portsmouth (from the 1930s referred to as the A3), Ripley was the post town for the whole area (including Woking) from 1813 to 1865. With the coming of the railway to what was then Woking Common in 1838, Ripley's importance diminished, and Woking became its post town in 1865. As motor traffic increased during the 1960s and the 1970s, the Portsmouth Road at Ripley became a notorious bottleneck, relieved by the building of the Ripley bypass in 1976. The A3 was renamed the B2215, and what has always been a major trunk road was expanded into six lanes north of Guildford, bypassing Send and Ripley.
The distance is 3.5 miles (5.6 km) to the M25 motorway. It is centred 6.2 miles (10.0 km) southeast of Woking, 6.8 miles (10.9 km) northeast of Guildford and 22.5 mi (36.2 km) southwest of London. Neighbouring villages Send and Send Marsh to the South-West and Ockham to the East have fewer shopping facilities.
The village church, St Mary Magdalen has a fine Norman chancel and is a Grade II* listed building (the second highest of the three categories). Among the more than 20 listed buildings and cottages in the village are Pinnocks Café the building the 'Ship Inn and Ye Old Sweet Shoppe', J Hartley Antiques, Sage Antiques (Green Cottage) and Clock House and Cellar Wines – Artisan Spirits, Boutique Wines, Delicatessen & Events (The Old Cellar) The building that Cellar Wines is located in, is a historical place of interest with a Blue Plaque located outside for the production of penicillin for the first time in the UK (possibly the world) for civilian use by Kennith White in 1944. Cedar House Gallery, in another listed building, Cedar House often has exhibitions and stocks predominantly watercolour and oil landscapes.
The village includes a coaching inn, The Talbot Hotel, which dates back to 1453, as well as Drake's restaurant, which has been awarded a Michelin star and 3 AA rosettes. The village high street includes a small supermarket, cobblers and bakery. Aside from the Talbot Hotel/Inn there is the Jovial Sailor as a further larger than average, food-serving public house. Two other pubs in the village are The Anchor and The Half Moon.

Eric Clapton | Change from childhood to 2018
Eric Clapton (30.3.1945) Eric Clapton is a British blues and rock guitarist, songwriter, singer and composer.
Childhood: Eric Clapton was born in Ripley, Surrey, to Patricia Clapton and Edward Fryer. His mother was 17 and his father was a 25-year-old soldier from Montreal. Before Eric's birth, his father was sent to war and then returned to Canada.
Eric Clapton was raised by his grandmother and her husband, believing that they were his real parents and that his mother was his older sister. Patricia later married another Canadian soldier and moved to Canada, leaving Eric to live with his grandparents.
On his 13th birthday, Eric Clapton was given a Hoyer acoustic guitar.
In 1961, Eric Clapton began studying at the Kingston College of Art, but was asked to leave at the end of the year, as his passions lay with music, rather than art. He started to busk around London and at the age of 17, he joined an early British R&B band, The Roosters as well as a brief stint with Casey Jones & The Engineers.
Music Career: Eric Clapton joined The Yardbirds in 1963. The band was influenced by the likes of Bb King, Buddy Guy and Freddie King. Their popularity grew when they took over the Rolling Stones' residency at Richmond's Crawdaddy Club. Their first major hit, 'For Your Love' came in 1965, just before Clapton left the band. The song had been written by Graham Gouldman, who also wrote songs for Herman's Hermits and The Hollies. When Clapton left The Yardbirds, he was replaced by Jeff Beck (Jimmy Page had already turned down the offer).
Clapton then joined John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers, drawing worldwide attention to his guitar playing on Blues Breakers.
In July 1966, Eric Clapton left the Bluesbreakers (he was replaced by Peter Green). He went on to form Cream, with Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker. Though Clapton was still highly regarded as a guitarist, the emergence of Jimi Hendrix stole a little of his limelight. During his time in Cream, Eric Clapton collaborated with George Harrison of The Beatles, playing on Harrison's 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps'.
After Cream split, Clapton formed Blind Faith with Steve Winwood (of the band Traffic), Ginger Baker and Ric Grech (of the band Family). They released just one self-titled LP and the band was relatively short-lived. Eric Clapton stepped away from the limelight for a time, playing with Delaney and Bonnie and Friends, as well as The Plastic Ono Band.
Eric Clapton released his debut solo album, entitled Eric Clapton in 1970. He then went on to form Derek and the Dominoes with Bobby Whitlock, Carl Radle and Jim Gordon. It was during this time that he penned one of his biggest hits, 'Layla'. Much of his material written at this time is said to have been inspired by his unrequited affection for George Harrison's wife, Pattie Boyd. Duane Allman of The Allman Brothers played guitar for the Layla album.
For some time in the 1970s, Eric Clapton withdrew from public performance. In 1973, Pete Townsend of The Who organised a comeback concert for him.
Eric Clapton's 1974 album 461 Ocean Boulevard featured Marcella Detroit of Shakespear's Sister and contained a cover of Bob Marley's 'I Shot the Sheriff'.
During the 1980s, Eric Clapton continued to perform and record with a number of high-profile musicians. In 1984, her performed on Roger Waters' (of Pink Floyd) solo album, The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking. He also had two albums produced by Phil Collins (formerly of Genesis), 1985's Behind the Sun and 1986's August. The latter album featured 'Tearing Us Apart' with Tina Turner.
One of Eric Clapton's best-known albums, Journeyman, was released, featuring appearances from Mick Jones, Chaka Khan and Daryl Hall.
On Eric Clapton's 1990 tour, Steve Ray Vaughan (his guitarist at the time) and two members of their road crew were killed in a helicopter crash whilst traveling between concerts.
Two years later, Eric Clapton performed at Madison Square Garden in New York for Bob Dylan's 30th Anniversary concert, along with Steve Cropper, Tom Petty and Neil Young. On his 1994 album From the Cradle, Eric Clapton played revised versions of old blues standards. At the end of the century, Clapton could be found collaborating with B.B. King and Carlos Santana.
The next millennium continued to be a prolific one for Eric Clapton as he continued to perform and collaborate with the likes of Ravi Shankar, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and Jeff Lynne (at a tribute to George Harrison) and released two albums full of covers of Robert Johnson covers. In October 2009, Eric Clapton was chosen as one of the performers at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 25th anniversary concert along with U2, Van Morrison and Jeff Beck.

MOD Land near Pirbright & Bisley. Just a few sights, including one odd one.! (Pls read description).
Just a little explore on the MOD Land round Pirbright & Bisley. (It is publicly accessible land). It was just a small look around to see if it was worth a revisit with my decent camera. I only had my mobile, so the shots on this video are not very good.
It is a very nice area, and well worth a revisit.
I didn't end up near any 'restricted areas', or encounter any MOD staff, so had no issuses regarding taking photos on this occasion.
When I have more time, I'm going to visit the gun ranges at Bisley, so will post that video when I do.
If you watch to the end of this video, you'll be amazed what is found in the woods nowadays.!

London Surrey Cycle Classic
Managed to get to three different locations around the Box Hill area (not allowed on the hill itself as lotts of people on the road cheering on the cyclists on the road would damage the plants... The sheepdog trials taking place on the same hill, of course would do no damage to the plants whatsoever - what is it sheep eat again, tarmac?) Anyway, from what I could see it was a great race, nice to see the handful of British teams going for it and getting themselves noticed out in front. Was surprised how much the field had split on the second lap, but it wasn't a surprise that it came together for a bunch sprint, which in turn delivered another win for Mark Cavendish. Putting it that way really plays down the achievment, there was an amazing line up of sprinters and Cav won, it says a lot about how good he is that we expect him to win a sprint. Wonder what the oddds are on Cav taking a green jersey in the TdF and the gold at the Olympics next year?!
Incidentally, my slightly edited footage is almost as long as the slot the BBC are using to show race highlights next weekend...

Why shoot foxes?
The British red fox is widespread across the whole of mainland Britain and Ireland. The best estimate of the current British fox population is 240,000 adults in spring, to which a production of 425,000 cubs is added annually. The fox has no natural predator and for the population to remain stable, 425,000 foxes must therefore die each year.
Fox numbers need to be managed and controlled to prevent the predation of lambs, piglets reared outdoors, free range and domestic poultry. Foxes can also have a significant impact on vulnerable species of ground nesting birds such as black grouse, partridge, lapwing and curlew (Bealey, Green, Robson, Taylor & Winspear, 1999).
In order to protect such species while they are breeding, conservators and gamekeepers aim to control fox numbers, particularly from late winter to early summer. Foxes are also controlled around pheasant and partridge rearing and release pens in late summer and autumn. Overall, the direct cost to UK agriculture from fox predation has been estimated at £12 million annually (UK Government figures)

Should I have taken the lane, i.e. the M25 feeder? Primary or secondary?
Personally, riding here doesn't really bother me apart from the unpleasant vista, road smell, and horrendous racket of tyres on tarmac, but if you are going to signpost that the side of a major road is a cycle route, I would have thought, unless some separation were provided, more than a metre's width of lane is required, maybe like here a couple of km away.
BTW What happened was that I don't know this area too well & I missed a turn in Ripley so I used this section to get onto the Wisley road.
What's the Problem with the Conservatives' EU Treaty 'Deal?
As people are gradually realising, the Conservatives' supposedly new 'deal' with the EU would be a very bad deal for the UK.
It would mean that the EU would have continued control over our military independence, foreign policy, International trade, Parliamentary independence and law making, taxation and fishing.
And this control continues indefinitely - beyond whats known as the transition period.
It also places the European Court of Justice, rather than an independent court as would be usual for an international treaty, as the final decision maker in the instance of a dispute.
It grants EU officials immunity to UK regulations, criminal laws and makes them exempt from taxation. It also leaves us liable for up to £500Bn, some say more, for 12 years due to our involvement in the European Investment Bank.
And what do we get for all this?
Well - what we get is just the opportunity to negotiate a free-trade deal with the EU.
This video explain it all in detail and proposes a solution...
Thanks for watching - please do pass it on as widely as possible.
Thank you.
