Ripon 3rd XI Vs. Ripley 4th XI
Ripley 4ths win over Ripon 3rds on the 17th May 2014
4s match report - 17 May 2014 v Ripon 3s away.
On entering the ground the first thing of notice was the boundary lengths of 3 foot toward the pavillion and a boundary of 500 miles on the other side. However, that did not alter my plan of batting first to post a total of 300 and then bowl Ripon out for 45. Then I lost the toss and my plan was in ruins!!!
One thing I had planned all season if he was in the 4s was to open the bowling with Chris Taylor. I'd seen enough of him bowling in the nets pre season to suggest he will become one of the most feared bowlers in this club if he decides to take that route over wicket keeping. And so it proved as Chris ripped in to the Ripon batsman after a nervy couple of early balls to end on figures of 13 - 4 off 7 overs. Three of his victims were bowled and the pace and control Chris showed was exceptional on the day. Chris bowled both openers Paul and Michael Sorby, Mark Willow was out LBW and debutant James Wilson bowled. What was also impressive is Chris was defending the 3 foot boundary on the on side.
At the other end veteran Paul Gibb was his usual steady self and took a couple of wickets for 25 runs off 9 overs. Paul had stated to me that Ripon's no.3 batsmen Giles Spencer won't get bowled, so we will have to get him out another way. And then Paul bowled him the very next ball, albiet with the help of an inside edge but bowled he was. The Paul took his second wicket when John Fraser hit out to mid off and I was grateful to take the catch.
Enter Ben Canham, AKA mini beef for what was quite an amazing spell of bowling and cricket action. Bens first over went like this - 1st ball dot, 2nd ball he had Ripon's captain Paul Seldon caught behind as James Forster took an excellent catch. 3rd ball, 4th ball dot. 5th ball Ripon went for a run and Mike Prince showed his skills with a pick up and direct throw to run out Alan Walton - what an effort. 6th ball dot. Second over - 1st ball dot, 2nd ball wicket as Josh Pillar hit straight to Mike Prince who was enjoying this over now as much as the young bowler. 3rd, 4th, 5th and 5th balls were dots with the exception of a couple of byes which don't affect the bowlers figures of course. Third over, dot, dot wicket bowling Stuart Stocks. End of innings Ripon 69 all out. Mini Beef's figures - 2.3 overs, two maidens, 3 wickets for 0 (zero) runs. I would ask two questions - has a debutant of the Nidderdale league ever got better figures? And are these the best figures a 12 year old has ever produced?
Whilst all this was going on Kieran Wood was struggling to find form bowling up the hill but still managed steady figures of 15 - 0 off four overs including a maiden.
Our run chase didn't start two well when we lost Kieran in the 1st over. However, Andy Baranyai had a plan and it worked a treat.
Having scored 13 which included three lovely 4's Andy smashed a ball towards the hand of Ripon's captain, and best bowler Paul Seldon. Whilst Seldon managed to hold on for the C & B he went off injured and didn't bowl again. This enabled the man of the match Chris taylor to attack the bowling and he raced to 29 including 6 fours before he had a rush of blood to the head. Chris hit a shot straight to cover and called for a run. I was at the other end and shouted no as even Usain Bolt on steroids wouldn't have made it to the strikers end. Unfortunately for Chris he just kept running and that was the end of his day with the game nearly won.
Mark Taylor entered the crease and immediately hit a shot to the fielder at cover and called for a run that not even Usain Bolt on steroids would have made to the strikers end. Fortunately, Mark didn't keep running and was there with me at the end to see Ripley over the line in only 12.2 overs.
Overall a cracking win. The fielding was good, the batting good, the bowling awesome and the team spirit, well, that was just brilliant.

Places to see in ( Doncaster - UK )
Doncaster, is a large market town in South Yorkshire, England. Together with its surrounding suburbs and settlements, the town forms part of the Metropolitan Borough of Doncaster . The Doncaster skyline is dominated by the minster in the middle of the town. The Frenchgate Shopping Centre holds an important position in the skyline, along with the Doncaster College Hub building and Cusworth Hall. Cusworth Hall is an 18th-century Grade I listed country house in Cusworth, near Doncaster. Set in the landscaped parklands of Cusworth Park, Cusworth Hall is a good example of a Georgian country house.
Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, Doncaster is about 20 miles (30 km) from Sheffield, with which it is served jointly by an international airport, Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield in Finningley. The Doncaster Urban Area includes Doncaster and the neighbouring small village of Bentley as well as some other villages.
Doncaster sits on the European Route E15 and is the starting point of European Route E13. The E13 connects Doncaster, Sheffield, Nottingham to London. Doncaster is a European hub with a new international airport, Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield opened in 2005. Doncaster International Railport facilities link to the Channel Tunnel.
From around the 16th century, Doncaster embraced the wealthy stagecoach trade. This led to horse breeding in Doncaster, which in turn led to the start of horseraces there. Recent leisure developments include a new community sports stadium for sports teams including the towns men's football club, Doncaster Rovers F.C.
