Celebrity Solstice Cruise: Auckland to Sydney
November 2019: Celebrity Solstice Cruise from Auckland to Sydney. Photo scenes from Auckland, Tauranga, Wellington, Akaroa, Dunedin, The New Zealand Sounds (Dusky, Doubtful, and Milford), Hobart and Sydney.
Some cruise notes I made during the cruise:
Auckland: Lovely evening tonight in downtown Auckland harbour. Nice time of day to start a cruise.
Tauranga: Great weather for a walkabout. Went for a stroll around the base of Mt Maunganui.
Wellington: The day started out cold, wet and windy, typical Wellington. Took a 4WD tour over to the edge of Cook Strait on the seal coast, and walked along rugged wild shores.
Akaroa: Nestled in the heart of an ancient volcano, Akaroa is rich with beautiful bays teaming with wildlife. Took an exhilarating jet-boat ride around the picturesque harbour. Thank goodness I took warm clothes. Only 14c (57f) plus chill factor, a bit cold.
Dunedin: Known as Edinburgh of New Zealand, Dunedin is the country’s city of the south, wearing its Scottish heritage with pride. Took a 4WD trip from the city over to the Otago Peninsula. Really hard to describe the rugged peaceful wilderness this place offers.
Dusky Sound: Up early to catch the roaring forties Antarctic air, as we started sailing through Dusky Sound. What a fantastic experience and breath-taking views. Steep cliffs that have been carved over centuries by dozens of waterfalls, surround the largest of the many fjords along the New Zealand coast. Dusky Sound is a wildlife paradise, with seals, dolphins and many different species of sea birds.
Doubtful Sound: Another roaring forties Antarctic gale blowing me off my feet (and a little rain) but another exciting scenic sail through such a peaceful destination. A dual layered marine ecosystem is formed by cold mountain freshwater flowing down from the cliffs into the sea saltwater. This creates a playground for seals and penguins.
Milford Sound: Only one in three trips make it into Milford Sound as the weather often turns stormy, but today we were lucky. Majestic Milford Sound is a narrow, very deep channel, with some cliffs towering over a mile high, which makes the massive Celebrity Solstice ship look tiny in comparison.
The Zealand Sounds, Dusky, Doubtful and Milford, are simply majestic and awe inspiring. There’s something eerily special with dark rolling grey clouds and intermittent periods of rain. The bird and sea life apparently love that type of weather. It’s their natural playground.
Celebrity Solstice at Sea: Two sea days until we reach Hobart, Tasmania. The sun is shining, temperature rising, blue skies and t-shirts again. Can’t be too bad! Took a tour of the ship and visited many internal working areas, including the bridge and engine control room. Heading across the Tasman, caught a nice sunrise about 5am.
Hobart Coastal Wilderness: Arrived in Hobart, Tasmania. We’re here for two days, so took a speed boat tour on the first day around the Hobart coast line. A very picturesque place.
Hobart City: The capital of Australia’s island state of Tasmania, sits on the River Derwent harbour. Fashionable Salamanca Place has old sandstone warehouses, galleries and cafes. Nearby is Battery Point, a historic district with narrow lanes and colonial-era cottages. Hobart’s population is around 220,000 and is built on hilly roads, with many quaint suburbs boasting fantastic views of the harbour. I took the hop-on hop-off bus on the second day for a quick tour around the city. A bit difficult to take photos out of a moving bumpy bus window, so the odd image looks a little blurrier than normal.
Sydney, Australia: The final day of the cruise, travelling from Hobart to Sydney, arriving at first light. The sky was darker than normal due to the pollution effects of smoke from the major bushfires in NSW, Australia. Arriving into Sydney harbour is quite spectacular when you see the city skyline, opera house and harbour bridge all together.

FIJI VLOG 2018
It was a privilege attending the Inaugural Leadership Pacific Conference organised by Leadership Pacific cluster members from Victoria University of Wellington and our hosts the Univeristy of the South Pacific in Suva, Fiji.
It was more of an honour to be one of 5 key young leaders delivering the Keynote speech with my mains Hezron Neru Leitu Paongo-Parsons whom we journeyed together as Te Pūtahi Atawhai Tūākana in 2017 alongside fierce sisters Tagifano Sitagata and Madison Jenkins-Tavite who have taken up the baton and through their leadership are serving as current Tūākana for TPA. The opportunity was a great honour and it came with alot of nerves, doubt and worry about what to say and whether Pacific leaders would be interested in what we had to say on 'Leadership' and our journey. We were encouraged from day 1 to 'speak from the heart' which opened up space for our stories to be heard.
In my response to my presentation. A lecturer from Fiji National University commented on my 'climate change' example. And shared how the impacts of the rising sea levels has taken away the land on which her brother grave was on. The exchange in Talanoa, tok stori created dialogue which I will share with my world. These are the untold stories that need to be heard.
Also a big Vinaka Vakalevu to the people of Deuba. A village that opened their homes to us for three days. We lived the Fiji way which was an experience that I will always treasure.
90 at 9: Mortgagee sales hit new high in September; listings rising
Alex Tarrant presents 90 seconds at 9am in association with ASB. The New Zealand dollar finished off the week below 72.5 USc as US stocks ended their week on a low note and fears about the global recovery re-emerged, Reuters reported. Talk about the Reserve Bank of New Zealand's future last week from Labour leader Phil Goff may also have had a downward impact on the currency.
Mortgagee sales in New Zealand hit a new high in September, data released by Terralink shows. There were 343 mortgagee sales over the month, which was up from the previous high of 321 in July this year.
Mortgagee listings have also been on the rise in recent weeks. Figures supplied to interest.co.nz from realestate.co.nz show mortgagee listings rose to 379 this week, the highest level since 385 at the beginning of August.
Finally, South Canterbury Finance looks set to lose 'millions' as a receiver sells the assets of the Oakridge resort in Wanaka, the Sunday Star Times reported. South Canterbury is owed NZ$10.49 million on the resort.

A Day Off in Napier | MYGF_DIARY | video + blog | 014
this is what to do on our off day in Napier!
six sisters coffee house is a small coffee shop located in the early-20th century villa style house on the Marine Parade. you can start your day by having breakfast and a cup of coffee in here.
after that you can hire a bike at marine parade, they do have scooter, long board and electronic stuff too, that is beside the Ocean Spa.
this is a must-do if you live in Hastings.
the sunday farmers market at Hastings.
There's nothing fresher or finer than a barrow load of food from The Hawke's Bay Farmers' Markets!
Shop for a wide range of fresh vegetables, fruit, meat, bread, eggs, pickles and preserves straight from the producer.
A visit to Hawke's Bay is completed by a shopping spree at one of our Farmers' Markets.
here is the location:
HAWKE'S BAY FARMERS' MARKET (Hawke's Bay Showgrounds, Kenilworth Rd, Hastings) - Every Sunday, 8.30am - 12.30pm
NAPIER URBAN FARMERS' MARKET (Clive Square, Napier), Every Saturday 9am - 1pm
Bluff Hill Lookout
The drive up the hill is a bit tight, so look out for traffic. The view was nice, however you can't see the main part of Napier from this point.
It's a good spot to visit because it only takes 5 minutes to get to from Napier.
last but not least is the Te Mata Peak
a peak south of Hastings rising up to 399m in the Hawke's Bay region of New Zealand. A sealed road leads to the popular lookout at the summit, as well as several trails for hikers and mountain bikers.
that's it for today, more video and blog coming soon !!
