Caretta Expedition VIII Riung 17 Island Marine Park, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia.
Assessment of the coral reefs health and structure community of seagrass and mangrove for sustainability of natural resources Riung 17 island Marine Park, Ngada region, implemented in 2013 in order to get an idea of the coral reefs health, mangrove and seagrass vegetation. Material used for this research includes corals, economical fishes and herbivorous fish, invertebrates, impact damage, mangroves, and seagrass . The research was conducted in 12 points for the coral reef ecosystem data collection and selected by stratified random sampling method, also considered to coral reef areas whereas it exposed or sheltered and on a block representation of the management by Center for Conservation of Nature Resources, East Nusa Tenggara. Methods of data collection substrates were calculated using a 150-meter PIT. Data retrieval fish belt transect method ( belt transect ) along 150 meters parallel to the shoreline by counting the number of fish encountered and estimate the total fish length and followed by longswim. Seagrass research conducted in Ontoloe Island. To determine location of the seagrass observations using a purposive sampling method and the data collection method is by holding a 50 -meter transects perpendicular to the shoreline. For mangrove vegetation were obtained by transect squares method on three stations. Each observation stations is determined by a field survey based on a representative transect locations. The results showed there was 49 species of fish from 9 different families. The greatest abundance on economic fish is Caesio teres with 209 individuals and the herbivorous fish is Acanthurus blochii with 118 individu. Largest biomass on economical fish species found in Lain Jawa Island with 5575 Density/ha (individual). While the highest abundance at Three Island, 719 Biomass/ha ( kg ), this is because the site has large enough value of Hard Coral Life, which is when the condition of hard coral life is getting better, it will affect to the higher abundance of economical fishes. Highest abundance of Herbivorous fish were obtained in Wongkoroe Island with 3009 Density/ha and the highest biomass on Kolong Island with 980 Biomass/ha (kg). Three species from two families of seagrass found in Ontoloe Island with the highest seagrass cover average percentage is Enhalus acoroides (50%) with a density of 32.79 stands/m2. This seagrass studies is used to comparing data between November 2013 and August 2002. The data showed an average increase in Enhalus acorides and average decline of seagrass cover on the species of Cymodocea rotundata and Thalassia hemprichii. There are 4 species from one family in three goloite on mangrove vegetations with dominant species are Rhizophora mucronata and Ceriops tagal, and the conditions of vegetation at the three locations are generally still good. The highest density was found in species of Ceriops tagal is 400 ind/ha while the lowest is Rhizophora stylosa is 225 ind/ha . This is caused by the location of the species Ceriops tagal is in a sheltered area so it is easier to grow rapidly.

In this video you see the flying foxes of the 17 Islands Marine Park on Flores Indonesia. I 've used a Phantom 3 advanced drone to get some very nice shots.
It was not easy to get to Riung, but it was very worth it to visit it for two nights. You can hire a boat and have a great day on the water and beaches. The snorkling is great! Not many tourists go there yet, because of the terrible roads.

Goodbye Dragons, Hello Flores Island, Indonesia
A drumroll here...mission accomplished. Komodo Dragons seen we are uneaten, and our charter boat continued on to Flores Island, the 6th island during this trip to the Lesser Sundras, Indonesia.
Flores is a green, mountainous island with volcanic topography. A chain of volcanic cones stretches the length of the island. The decent Trans-Flores Highway crosses the island from end to end but it is mpossible to get anywhere quickly because of mountains.
There is, supposedly, much to see in Flores. Let's begin the Trans-Flores trip at the Golo Hilltop Hotel in Labuanbajo...
