River Heart Parklands
Stage One of River Heart Parklands was officially opened on 3 February 2007 and is the third instalment in the River Heart vision for Ipswich city centre.
Stage One's entrance is located along a section of the Bremer River under the rail rail bridge (Bremer Street). A riverside board-walk links to Stage Two which is centred on Bob Gamble Park and was officially opened on 14 October 2012. Features include a zero depth water play area and 'Discovery Forest'.
River Heart Parklands
The Bremer River is at the heart of Ipswich, so the fantastic River Heart Parklands on its banks are aptly named. Here you'll find wheelchair and pram-friendly boardwalks of 1.2 kilometres which extend from the old rail bridge and Bradfield Pedestrian Bridge (which leads across the river to popular Riverlink shopping centre), through to the aquativity section known as Bob Gamble Park.
Enjoy the river breezes as you stroll through a mini rainforest, and past a cascading waterfall and sculpture pond. You can learn about the fascinating area's history courtesy of the information plaques, for instance Ipswich was going to be the original state capital but because of the river not being deep or wide enough for large ships, the mantle was taken by nearby Brisbane. As a testament to this, old sandstone blocks in a retaining wall are thought to be associated with a wharf owned by the Australasian Steam Navigation Company.
At night, the river comes alive in a magical way with mesmerising laser projections of mystical creatures Ippy, Limey and Stoney. There are viewing platforms and plenty of car parking onsite. River Heart Parklands is definitely a must-see if you're in Ipswich.
Bob Gamble Park - River Heart Parklands
In recent years, Ipswich has really made the most of its river with fabulous new attractions such as Bob Gamble Park.
Bob Gamble Park, with its shade sails, has all you need for a cooling day out, with a zero-depth water park for the kids to splash around in and even ride their bikes through, and play equipment including a climbing spider. There's a 25-metre flying fox so youngsters can practise being Tarzan, and swings suitable for toddlers right up to long rope 'logs' for groups to ride. Add to that the thriving Discovery Forest with balance beams, forts, wooden totem poles and a bridge across a dry creek bed, and you won't be able to drag yourself or the kids away.
There are ample picnic and barbecue facilities so everyone can satisfy the appetite they've built up with all of that energetic fun. Well-maintained toilets and showers are also on hand to make your day out one of complete contentment and comfort.

Kholo Gardens
A picturesque retreat into nature seven kilometres from the Ipswich Central Business District is the peaceful Kholo Gardens at Pine Mountain. It's an unexpected delight to explore with its lush gardens, crystal clear lily pond, bush walks and open spaces. Giant Kauri trees and Hoop Pines planted by early settlers, rare birds and plants, and the nearby Brisbane River all make this a special place to spend some time. It's also a sacred site for the indigenous Jagera, Yuggera and Ugarapul People.
At this subtropical haven, you can enjoy the peace and quiet of the 400 metre walk through Tree Fern Lane under a natural rainforest canopy. The more energetic can try the steeper 800 metre Coal Creek Walk - aptly named seeing as the earliest recordings of coal in the area were made here in 1825.
Formerly the site of a water pumping station, Kholo Gardens has an historic well onsite as well as a charming little old church, relocated here in 1990 from Redbank. With that and a stunningly restored Queenslander nearby, you can see why this is a popular venue for weddings and other functions. There are also barbecues, picnic tables and public toilets.
Lobley Park
If you'd like to give the kids a park experience to remember while you're in Ipswich, the award-winning Lobley Park will make you very popular with the younger members of the family. The park has an aviation theme, earning its nickname of 'the aeroplane park', so budding pilots' or flight attendants' spirits will be in the clouds.
The nearby RAAF base at Amberley gets a nod with the walk-in equipment resembling an RAAF cargo plane with mock cockpit, plus there's an air-traffic control tower with x-ray machine and radar screen. Blue pathways painted with clouds connect different play areas and make Lobley Park a great place to bring a scooter or bike. There's also an interactive flower garden and 'parachute' swings among other attractions.
Lobley Park has disabled access and covered electric barbecue areas and toilets, and as it's lit up at night, it's tempting to stay for an evening sausage sizzle and continue exploring Ipswich the next day. No wonder it's become popular for birthday get-togethers and is a winner of a Parks and Leisure Australia State Award for Regional Playspace and Parks.

Bremer River Ipswich Bass and Threadfin Salmon
A slideshow of some captures of bass and threadfin salmon 2012
All fish caught on lures in the mighty bremer river Ipswich in locations like River link, Brassall and Coalfalls. Since the floods the river is a healthy system that produces great captures of bass and king threadfin salmon. The bremer river cops alot of crap as only being good for catfish and rubbish. Hopefully we can change some opinions of the bremer river and show what great fish can be caught. My main goal is to get council on side to start a clean up of this great river, rubbish traps and manually remove surface matter an rubbish which give the bremer its ugly look.
