Mankayam Waterfalls BRIMORE
Mankayam, situated about 45 kms North-east of Thiruvananthapuram, is one of the popular eco-tourism spots in Kerala. From the mighty hill ranges of Chemunchi emanates the Chittar River flowing down through the forests, creating a tributary in the form of the Mankayam River. The various picturesque miliky cascades are the major tourist attractions at Manakayam. Among this two beautiful waterfalls are the Kalakayam and Kurissadi which are among the biggest waterfalls in southern Kerala. State Forest Department has come up with exclusive trekking options and special mention must be given to the Iruthala Moola and Varayadin Mottai Trails, both famous for the visuals, experience and rare display of endemic species.
Kerala Mankayam waterfalls are located near Palode in Thiruvananthapuram district. Mankayam River is a tributary of Chittar River. The Chittar River originates from the Chemunchi hills and flows through the Brymore forest to form this tributary. Mankayam River on its way produces two waterfalls, one at Kaalakkayam and Kurissadi. The area surrounding the Mankayam waterfall up to Kaalakkayam is covered with dense forests. The Mankayam waterfall is recently considered as an ecotourism zone and is managed by the State Forest Department. There is a Forest Protection Group that works under the State Forest Department who would provide all the help for trekking and other needs. The area is ideal for trekking. A trekking area near the Iruthala Moola - Ayampara is a great experience and one can also see the Ayampara waterfall from here.

kovalam beach kerala | Thiruvananthapuram tourism | kerala tourism
Kovalam is a beach town by the Arabian Sea in Thiruvananthapuram city, Kerala, India, located around 16 km from the city center.
Kovalam means a grove of coconut trees and true to its name the village offers an endless sight of coconut trees.
Kovalam first received attention when the Regent Maharani Sethu Lakshmi Bayi of Travancore constructed her beach resort, Halcyon Castle, here towards the end of the 1920s. Thereafter the place was brought to the public eye by her nephew the Maharaja of Travancore. The European guests of the then Travancore kingdom discovered the potentiality of Kovalam beach as a tourist destination in the 1930s. However, Kovalam shot into limelight in the early seventies with arrivals of the masses of hippies on their way to Ceylon in the Hippie Trail. This exodus started the transformation of a casual fishing village of Kerala into one of the most important tourist destinations in all India.

Roads were narrow but we did not face any troubles from traffic congestion. If we were traveling on the National Highway, we would have been suffering the crowd. After driving for almost 20 kilometers we had to face poor road conditions. The roads were close to the marine but they were full of chuckholes. Anchuthengu Fort or Anjengo Fort was on our way but we did not spare our time to shoot the attraction. We continued and drove 45 kilometers to reach Trivandrum, the capital city and the largest city of Kerala. Trivandrum has plenty of natural and heritage attractions. Sri Padmanabha Temple, East Fort, several palaces, and monuments make it a heritage beauty while Kovalam, Shangumugham, Veli, Neyyar Wild Life Sanctuary and many others give it the needed natural blend.
We continued our drive after a quick lunch at Edaneram. We were settling down at Edayar Island Resort that night. A beautiful getaway location from Trivandrum is the picturesque Edayar Island with a flowing river on one side and Arabian sea on the other. We stayed there overnight and enjoyed the nature walk nearby.
