The Legendary Main River Show (Frankfurt, Germany) HQ
The Main River: April 27, 2014
The Main flows through the German states of Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg (forming the border with Bavaria for some distance) and Hesse. Its basin competes with the Danube for water; as a result, many of its boundaries are identical with those of the European Watershed.
The Main river begins near Kulmbach in the Franconia region of Germany, at the joining of its two head-streams, the Red Main (Roter Main) and the White Main (Weißer Main). The Red Main rises in the Franconian Jura mountain range, 50 km (31 mi) in length, and runs through Creussen and Bayreuth. The White Main rises in the mountains of the Fichtelgebirge; it is 41 km (25 mi) long. In its upper and middle section runs in valleys of the German Highlands. In its lower section it crosses the Lower Main Lowlands (Hanau-Seligenstadt Basin and northern Upper Rhine Plain) to Wiesbaden, where it discharges into the Rhine River. Major tributaries of the Main are the Regnitz, the Franconian Saale, the Tauber, and the Nidda.
The name derives from the Latin Moenus or Menus, and is not related to the name of the city Mainz (Latin: Moguntiacum).
Note: Kulmbach in Franconia, is commonly used to refer to the eastern part of the historic Duchy of Franconia in Germany, mainly represented by the Bavarian administrative districts of Lower Franconia (Unterfranken, capital city Würzburg), Middle Franconia (Mittelfranken, capital city Ansbach), and Upper Franconia (Oberfranken, capital city Bayreuth). Due to the respective local East Franconian German dialects, the adjacent northeastern parts of the Heilbronn-Franken region in Baden-Württemberg, parts of Thuringia south of the Rennsteig ridge, and a small part of Hesse (Gersfeld) are also considered as Franconian regions.
The two largest cities of Franconia are Nuremberg and Würzburg. Though located on the southeastern periphery, the Nuremberg metropolitan area is often identified as the economic and cultural centre of Franconia.

Frankfurt city | River Rhine Cruise | Travel Vlog
On my way, back to the Caribbean, I transited through Frankfurt, Germany. I used the opportunity to explore the city and took a small Rhine river tour.
It was a great day as I walked, explore and noticed that Frankfurt is so much more like a modern American city than any European city I have visited.
It has a great skyline, modern buildings etc. plus the River Rhine tour was great, it was amazing to see all the small cities along the shoreline and of course, those medieval castles.
Frankfurt airport is a major hub, so it serves a great number of people, but it is worth stopping over and seeing the city and what it has to offer.
More on Frankfurt:
The most international city in Germany, the largest financial centre on the continent, the historical city of coronations, the city of Goethe and the Frankfurt School…
In brief, to the smallest metropolis in the world, in which there is a lot to discover at close hand. Whether this glance at the city’s home page is the start of a longer, maybe even permanent, stay on the banks of the Main, or if, as a business visitor, you only have a limited amount of time available: you will find that the city has interesting offers for extensive tours of the city, cultural enjoyment and attractive shopping trips waiting for you.
Almost one in three of the people living in Frankfurt do not hold a German passport. No matter where visitors come from, they will always meet people in Frankfurt who speak their language and a restaurant that serves their favourite food. The open and hospitable atmosphere in Frankfurt stems from its centuries-old role as a trading centre. This liberal and democratic tradition of the city may be one reason for the fact that people from very diverse cultures have lived here in peace with one another for a long time. They have all contributed to making this city shine slightly differently from every angle, like a jewel shines slightly differently when you look at it from different sides.
This starts with the city’s architecture. Those who go and have a drink in a cosy cider pub on a nice summer evening will experience the atmosphere that even Frankfurt’s most famous son, Johann Wolfgang Goethe, would still easily recognise. The view of Frankfurt’s bold high-rise architecture is just as attractive and yet
very different. Directly opposite the high-rise buildings, on the other side of the Main, a unique collection of 13 museums has been developed and these are devoted to different works of art, from classical paintings to modern media.
River Rhine:
he Rhein (Rhine) is the biggest river in Germany. With a length of 1.320 km, of which 865 km in Germany, the Rhein (Rhine) river is one of the most important waterways in Europe.
To the north Rüdesheim the Rhein (Rhine) river breaks through the Rheinisches Schiefergebirge (rhenish slate rocks). Up to Bonn it is called Mittelrhein (Middlerhine). The Upper Middle Rhein (Rhine) from Rüdesheim to Koblenz - valley of the Lorelei - was appointed to the Upper Middle Rhine Valley World Heritage by the UNESCO in 2002, representative for the whole Rhein (Rhine) river.

Drone footage shot on my DJI Mavic:
Some 4K drone footage along the River Main (pronounced 'Mine') between Frankfurt and Hanau. I went for a bike ride on a sunny Good Friday before Easter and brought the DJI Mavic Pro along. Launched from the bank of the river near Mühlheim and captured a little 4K footage of the Germany countryside.

Germany Free / Frankfurt Main River
A nice surprise. Had 1h to kill at Frankfurt's central station yesterday and decided to walk towards the river, go over a nice bridge, walk about this lovely grassy area and come back from the other bridge. 1h walk, a little sun and the chance to encounter Frankfurters in ecstasy with the appearance of the first day of real warmth in spring. A must-visit for anyone with a little time to spare in the city and zero desire to hang around central station.

FRANKFURT, crossing the modern bridge of HOLBEINSTEG over the river MAIN, great views ????
SUBSCRIBE: - Let's walk across the beautiful Holbeinsteg footbridge, located in Frankfurt, Germany and which is reserved solely for pedestrians and cyclists. This makes it possible for non-motorists to take in the scenes on the southern museum embankment as well as the magnificent skyline situated on the northern side of the river.
This beautiful suspension bridge, attached to two blue-coloured towers by red and grey-blue cables, was opened in 1990. The Holbeinsteg footbridge connects the city district of Sachsenhausen (museum mile) with the Bahnhofsviertel (central station district).
Frankfurt, a central German city on the river Main, is a major financial hub that's home to the European Central Bank. It's the birthplace of famed writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, whose former home is now the Goethe House Museum. Like much of the city, it was damaged during World War II and later rebuilt. The reconstructed Altstadt (Old Town) is the site of Römerberg, a square that hosts an annual Christmas market.
Germany is a Western European country with a landscape of forests, rivers, mountain ranges and North Sea beaches. It has over 2 millennia of history. Berlin, its capital, is home to art and nightlife scenes, the Brandenburg Gate and many sites relating to WWII. Munich is known for its Oktoberfest and beer halls, including the 16th-century Hofbräuhaus. Frankfurt, with its skyscrapers, houses the European Central Bank.

Trains over the River Main, Frankfurt, Germany - August 22nd & 24th, 2018
While I was staying in Frankfurt I found a fantastic spot for watching the trains - this Steel Arch bridge over the River Main. There's plenty of variety with DB S-Bahn, Regio, ICE; and freight trains. This is the Deutschherrn bridge, which opened in 1913 to connect Hanau with Frankfurt am Main South.
