The road we use to came here, it was rough but we made it. It was really nice to see the beauty of nature on both sides of the road. We were lucky that the weather was very nice as well.
Entry fee was Le5, 000, which is not that much. Honestly, I was speechless when I enter to the beach and look at my surroundings. Totally, amazing….it’s a natural beauty for the Nature Loverss, like me…lol
The flat beach you can walk, swim and sit on the chair. There is no sea ride or similar activities. Calm and quiet. If you want to sport at the beach this is not the place. If you like to hear the roaring of the ocean and remain in peach you definitely go there.
I would like to say; perhaps River No 2 is the most popular beach on the peninsula. Roughly 45 minutes’ drive from the western area of Freetown (depending on traffic at Lumley). Busy at the weekend and jam pack on Sunday or public holiday. It’s my assumption …lol
River No 2 is an exceptional place in many ways, with a combination of a beautiful beach and lagoon that are home for a number of beautiful birds and animals.

Possibly Sierra Leone’s most beautiful beach, River Number Two is just 30 km south of Freetown. However, like most beaches on the Freetown Peninsula it’s totally unspoilt, and during the week, virtually deserted. Run by a cooperative set up following the civil war, all profits go straight back into the community.
Deck chairs let visitors sit and soak up the stunning backdrop of rolling green mountains, while freshly caught barracuda and prawns are grilled to order and cold drinks brought to your seat. It’s no wonder that the beach was chosen as the location for Bounty’s “Taste of Paradise” advert.
Our attention has been drawn to a nefarious activity going on at one of Sierra Leone’s finest beaches, Number 2 River beach near Freetown, the capital.
According to a Facebook posting by a representative of the River No.2 community, CSE (Compagnie Sahelienne d’Entreprises), a local construction company with Senegalese connections, has decided to cut expenses by constructing a new road (see photo) rather then repairing the old road going to Tokeh from River No.2.They are doing this using a cheap method pushing down dirt and rocks on to the river and separating the natural river from the ocean. Doing this will result in stagnant water and change in the water flow to the beach.
The Number 2 community consists of small-scale farmers, fishmongers and fishermen. It also depends heavily on income derived from services like preparing sea food and offering boat rides to tourists and local visitors to the beach.

I visited a popular beach in Freetown , Sierra Leone and I was so impressed I didn’t even know I was in Africa . The sand was white and the water was super clear . If you are looking at visiting Sierra Leone and you don’t want to go far away from town this is definitely a perfect spot to see.

There is much more to Sierra Leone than just the negative perception many people have of the country.
Of course an old ugly slavery history, poor country, a decade-long civil war (1991-2002), the violent thriller Blood Diamond, the devastating ebola virus of 2014 & recently the headline news of a mud-slide disaster that killed over 50 lives & squarely blamed on poor town management woudn't make Sierra Leone a tourist destination of any right thinking man.
Rightly so, the country is not swarmed by tourists like Zanzibar & the few visitors you see are either workers for NGO's or are visiting for business purposes which leave them with less options than to explore.I was not a tourist.
I am among this statistics as i was in the country for a grueling 300km fund-raising West Africa cycle challenge organised by Street Child. I went on a wild paparazzi to explore & discover Free Town. Guese what, i discovered Free Town on a Okada (motor bike). What a feat it is? It was an adrenaline risky exhilarating zig zag adventure full of near accident misses.
I discovered a gem, a place with astonishing beaches lined with silky white sands. I have graced beaches in many countries that include South Africa, Zanzibar, Angola, Ghana, Liberia, Mauritania and It was quite a surprise to me that i could find a paradise of beaches that beats all the other beaches i have been except those in Zanzibar.
Imagine how stunned i was,
What made it even more enjoyable is the fact that i knew that my fellow Southerners (Southern African) folks were battling with the brutal colds of winter whilst i was being sun kissed & cooled on the Salone's shores.
I found myself swimming in a WARM, empty sea with steady roaring waves, waking up to peaceful lagoon views & feasting tropical fruits, The scenic interlocking mountains littered with many buildings or construction work added another dimension of beauty.
I started to wonder: Why isn’t this place swarmed with tourists?
Sierra Leone, it turns out, is an exceedingly rewarding place to visit, full of discovery and unexpected charm.

Most Beautiful Beach in Sierra Leone | River 2 Beach | Freetown
Around 30kms away from Freetown, River Number Two beach is a must visit place for everyone travelling to Sierra Leone and more so if you are travelling to Freetown. It is a serene white sand beach which also has few options to have a stay. Very less crowded. White sand and sea green/ocean bluish water makes it one of the most beautiful beach of Sierra Leone. Roads leading to the beach from Freetown are well constructed until half way. The later half do not have well constructed roads. Must visit and highly recommended place to visit.
