A Kayak Camping Adventure on the Lower Ovens River (solo)
A tough but ultimately enjoyable solo adventure paddling down a 50km stretch of the lower Ovens River from Wangaratta to Peechelba. An overnight camp was established at Frost's in the Warby-Ovens National Park with some interesting outcomes.
I have now paddled over 100kms of the Ovens River and I've been amazed at the diversity of this river. From gently sloping banks winding their way through Willow tree groves to a channel-like river flanked by River-Redgum forests complete with flocks of screeching Cockatoos. It has had it all. Raw beauty!
