HOME FROM THE SEA U.S. NAVY MUSEUM SHIPS USS TEXAS, USS CONSTITUTION, USS MISSOURI 45844
Home from the Sea is a short U.S. Navy film that shows several of the famous U.S. warships—the USS Constitution, Niagara, Kairo, Olympia, Texas, North Carolina, Missouri, and Arizona—and where they rest today. The film opens with shots of wrecked ships. An illustration shows the warship Constitution, the ship’s captains Edward Preble, Isaac Hull, and William Bainbridge. There are illustrations of the ship in combat, and old photographs show the ship as it is being restored. Footage shows the restored vessel at its home in the Navy Shipyard in Boston (1:40). Next, the film shows the USS Niagara (02:08), the relief flagship for Oliver Hazard Perry. Footage shows the ship’s canons on the deck as it is docked at the Erie Maritime Museum in Erie, PA. Viewers see the leftover wreckage of the USS Cairo (02:55). Photographs show the Civil War-era ship, and the remains of the ship after it was raised from the Yazoo River. Next, the film covers the cruiser USS Olympia (03:24). Illustrations show Commodore George Dewey and the ship as it fights in Manila Bay. The next ship showcased in the film is the USS Texas (03:54), which is shown sails at sea as part of the British Grand Fleet during WWI. Footage shows it during Operation Overlord; viewers see the ship’s guns firing on German targets. Soldiers wade to Normandy’s shore. The film then shows the old warship as it rests at the San Jacinto Battleground Monument. An aerial view shows the USS North Carolina (05:17), the 35-ton super-dreadnaught. Viewers see the deck of the ship, with a plane parked on it, as well as the ship’s guns. The film shows the ship lit up at night at Wilmington, NC. Next, viewers see the USS Missouri (06:12), as it is docked at the Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, WA. Footage shows the Japanese surrender to Allied forces on 2 September 1945 on the deck of the Missouri (06:45). The film then cuts to footage of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and the sinking of the USS Arizona (07:18). An aerial view shows the USS Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor. The film concludes with shots of the ships featured in the short film.
USS Constitution, also known as Old Ironsides, is a wooden-hulled, three-masted heavy frigate of the United States Navy named by President George Washington after the United States Constitution.
USS Niagara, commonly called the US Brig Niagara or the Flagship Niagara, is a wooden-hulled snow-brig that served as the relief flagship for Oliver Hazard Perry in the Battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812.
USS Cairo was one of the first American ironclad warships built at the beginning of the U.S. Civil War. Cairo was the lead ship of the City-class gunboats and named for Cairo, Illinois.
USS Olympia (C-6/CA-15/CL-15/IX-40) is a protected cruiser that saw service in the United States Navy from her commissioning in 1895 until 1922. This vessel became famous as the flagship of Commodore George Dewey at the Battle of Manila Bay during the Spanish–American War in 1898.
USS Texas (BB-35), the second ship of the United States Navy named in honor of the U.S. state of Texas, is a New York-class battleship. The ship was launched on 18 May 1912 and commissioned on 12 March 1914.
USS North Carolina (BB-55) is the lead ship of the North Carolina class of fast battleships, the first vessel of the type built for the United States Navy. Built under the Washington Treaty system, North Carolina's design was limited in displacement and armament, though the United States used a clause in the Second London Naval Treaty to increase the main battery from the original armament of nine 14-inch (360 mm) guns to nine 16 in (410 mm) guns.
USS Missouri (BB-63) (Mighty Mo or Big Mo) is an Iowa-class battleship and was the third ship of the United States Navy to be named after the U.S. state of Missouri. Missouri was the last battleship commissioned by the United States and is best remembered as the site of the surrender of the Empire of Japan which ended World War II.
USS Arizona was a Pennsylvania-class battleship built for and by the United States Navy in the mid-1910s. Named in honor of the 48th state's recent admission into the union, the ship was the second and last of the Pennsylvania class of super-dreadnought battleships.

SUMMARY
=======
Benjamin Franklin Butler (November 5, 1818 – January 11, 1893) was a major general of the Union Army, politician, lawyer and businessman from Massachusetts. Born in New Hampshire and raised in Lowell, Massachusetts, Butler is best known as a political major general of the Union Army during the American Civil War, and for his leadership role in the impeachment of President Andrew Johnson. He was a colorful and often controversial figure on the national stage and in the Massachusetts political scene, during his one term as Governor.
Butler, a successful trial lawyer, served in the Massachusetts legislature as an antiwar Democrat and as an officer in the state militia. Early in the Civil War he joined the Union Army, where he was noted for his lack of military skill, and his controversial command of New Orleans, which brought him wide dislike in the South and the Beast epithet. He helped create the legal idea of effectively freeing fugitive slaves by designating them as contraband of war in service of military objectives, which led to a political groundswell in the North which included general emancipation and the end of slavery as official war goals. His commands were marred by financial and logistical dealings across enemy lines, some of which probably took place with his knowledge and to his financial benefit.
Butler was dismissed from the Union Army after his failures in the First Battle of Fort Fisher, but soon won election to the United States House of Representatives from Massachusetts. As a Radical Republican he opposed President Johnson's Reconstruction agenda, and was the House's lead manager in the Johnson impeachment proceedings. As Chairman of the House Committee on Reconstruction, Butler authored the Ku Klux Klan Act of 1871 and coauthored the landmark Civil Rights Act of 1875.
In Massachusetts, Butler was often at odds with more conservative members of the political establishment over matters of both style and substance. Feuds with Republican politicians led to his being denied several nominations for the governorship between 1858 and 1880. Returning to the Democratic fold, he won the governship in the 1882 election with Democratic and Greenback Party support. He ran for President on the Greenback ticket in 1884.
Does Eerie Photo From Scene of Deadly Crash Show Stairway to Heaven?
Following a fatal car crash in Georgia last month, a photo captured a beam of light shining down on the wreckage, leaving many to believe it was an illumination from heaven. Hannah Simmons, 23, her 9-month old baby and her best friend all died in the accident after Simmons lost control of her car. Anisa Gannon was on her way to work when she came upon the scene and took the photo. At the time, she didn't know anyone died nor did she notice the beam of light.

700 Pound Snake Pulled out of Lake in North Carolina
Giant 700 pound snake caught in lake in Proctor, North Carolina. The giant man eating python was measured at 98 feet long. Police were contacted to see if there have been any recently filed missing person reports as a snake this big could have surely eaten a human.
This giant snake is massive and just gorgeous, but it didn't take long to find out that the STORY behind it... was fake, just another hoax.
While the image is indeed real, I think the size of the giant snake could have been exaggerated due to the camera angle
Nevertheless, this snake is still huge, but where did it come from? The markings on it's skin looks similar to that of a reticulated python native to Southeast Asia. After playing around with a little Google translate, the mystery was finally solved.
This giant python came from Indonesia and after some rough translating, it turns out that it was discovered this last Thanksgiving near the village of Belinyu City. It was found by accident by a group of construction workers who severely injured the reptile while knocking down a large dead tree in which the python was sleeping inside of. The workers put the dying snake out of it's misery and buried it.
It's sad to see such an incredible animal killed, especially one that could have been a new world record size. I wish there were more pictures so we could get a better idea of just how large it was.
I really enjoyed learning about this amazing snake, if you guys have any cool wildlife stories or interesting animals that you think I might enjoy, tell me about it on Facebook

SUMMARY
=======
William Tecumseh Sherman (February 8, 1820 – February 14, 1891) was an American soldier, businessman, educator, and author. He served as a general in the Union Army during the American Civil War (1861–65), for which he received recognition for his outstanding command of military strategy as well as criticism for the harshness of the scorched earth policies he implemented in conducting total war against the Confederate States.Sherman began his Civil War career serving in the First Battle of Bull Run and Kentucky in 1861. He served under General Ulysses S. Grant in 1862 and 1863 during the battles of forts Henry and Donelson, the Battle of Shiloh, the campaigns that led to the fall of the Confederate stronghold of Vicksburg on the Mississippi River, and the Chattanooga Campaign, which culminated with the routing of the Confederate armies in the state of Tennessee. In 1864, Sherman succeeded Grant as the Union commander in the western theater of the war. He proceeded to lead his troops to the capture of the city of Atlanta, a military success that contributed to the re-election of Abraham Lincoln. Sherman's subsequent march through Georgia and the Carolinas further undermined the Confederacy's ability to continue fighting. He accepted the surrender of all the Confederate armies in the Carolinas, Georgia, and Florida in April 1865, after having been present at most major military engagements in the western theater.
When Grant assumed the U.S. presidency in 1869, Sherman succeeded him as Commanding General of the Army, in which capacity he served from 1869 until 1883. As such, he was responsible for the U.S. Army's engagement in the Indian Wars over the next 15 years. Sherman advocated total war against hostile Indians to force them back onto their reservations. He steadfastly refused to be drawn into politics and in 1875 published his Memoirs, one of the best-known first-hand accounts of the Civil War. British military historian B. H. Liddell Hart declared that Sherman was the first modern general.

On November 8-9, 2018, we brought together leaders and changemakers in ocean exploration, entertainment, recreation, and art to imagine new ways to empower an open, inclusive global community of ocean explorers. Our goal is to imagine creative ways to make the ocean so pervasive in modern culture that everyone has a positive association with and understanding of the sea.

Building Amazing Homes & Mobile Spaces Using Shipping Containers!
In this video we explore and learn how to use shipping containers as strong, durable and mobile building blocks to create amazing structures of all kinds, like a house, addition, office space, or cabin; and we feature a few stunning projects to get you inspired!
Anthony Ruggiero from Storstac Inc. ( showed us around their yard in Toronto, Ontario and took the time to teach us about the ins and outs of building with shipping containers. We're excited to share the tips and information we learned with you.
Shipping containers come in standard 20 foot and 40 foot lengths, and there are other specialty custom sizes like the 10', 45', 48', 53' long containers.
Almost all shipping containers are made in China, and can be bought used (after they've been used for 10-20 years), or new, which means they've one been used once.
Since there are no shipping manifests for used containers to show what was transported in them over the course of their lifetime (it could be anything from clothes to nuclear waste), it's better to build with a new shipping container that's only been used once.
They're made with COR-TEN steel, which is a weathering steel that can withstand harsh weather conditions and elements like salt water because the rust on weathering steel creates a protective patina to keep it strong, whereas rust on mild steel would actually weaken the metal.
While building with shipping containers is not necessarily cheaper than conventional building, it does have advantages because the containers are modular, movable and mobile, durable, and have a unique, modern look.
They can be do it yourself friendly if you've worked with steel before, or if you find a company to take care of the steel work for you so you can focus on how to frame it and finish it from the inside.
Let us know what you think of shipping containers as alternative building blocks in the comments!

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
North Carolina ( (listen)) is a state in the southeastern region of the United States. It borders South Carolina and Georgia to the south, Tennessee to the west, Virginia to the north, and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. North Carolina is the 28th most extensive and the 9th most populous of the U.S. states. The state is divided into 100 counties. The capital is Raleigh, which along with Durham and Chapel Hill is home to the largest research park in the United States (Research Triangle Park). The most populous municipality is Charlotte, which is the second largest banking center in the United States after New York City.The state has a wide range of elevations, from sea level on the coast to 6,684 feet (2,037 m) at Mount Mitchell, the highest point in North America east of the Mississippi River. The climate of the coastal plains is strongly influenced by the Atlantic Ocean. Most of the state falls in the humid subtropical climate zone. More than 300 miles (500 km) from the coast, the western, mountainous part of the state has a subtropical highland climate.
In 2018, North Carolina was ranked number one on Forbes' Best States for Business ranking for a second year in a row.
