WillFredd Theatre presents Jockey - Riverbank Arts Centre, Newbridge
Horse Racing is in the blood. Leading dancer Emma O’Kane has just discovered it. Her grandfather, Phillip de Burgh O’Brien, was a bloodstock agent and a racing journalist from the 1940s – 70s. He died before she was born but his words live on. From Phillip’s writings to Emma’s own experience of recently learning to ride a racehorse, Jockey explores the physical relationship between the dancer, the jockey and the Irish thoroughbred horse.
Jockey is the culmination of a year long collaboration between WillFredd Theatre, Emma O’Kane and the Irish Racing Community.
The Chronicles of Oggle - Riverbank Arts Centre Newbridge
A black comedy, based on real life events, the play examines the role of the Catholic Church in recent Irish history, and also the treatment of people with intellectual disabilities in Irish society, in the wake of recent scandals in this area.
The play asks incredibly relevant and timely questions about who we are as a society and where we have come from in our recent history.
Described as 'Forest Gump without the sugar',Oggle is the life story of'Pakie' - an Irish 'Everyman' – an orphan growing up in 60's 70's and 80's Ireland, in the town of Oggle (a fictional place with similarities to Youghal in Cork!)
The central character, Pakie, through a combination of naivety (which is both charming and incredibly funny) and an unconquerable positivity, manages to shine a light on a dark period of history, while he himself manages to avoid the real trauma of the world he grows up in.

Written and performed by Pat Kinevane
Directed by Jim Culleton
Sticks and stones didn't break Her bones, but words and pointing crushed Her.
Is Beauty really only skin deep?
Does Ugliness hide somewhere deeper?
This stunning new play is a blackly comic, rich and vivid tale of a life lived in secret, a testament to the people who live on the fringes, under the nose of everyday life. It explores the surface, and what lies underneath.
Fishamble is funded by the Arts Council, Dublin City Council and Culture Ireland.
