Haunted History of ~Woodfin~ Asheville ~Buncombe County~ North Carolina
Three miles north of Asheville is Woodfin, Asheville's neighbor to the north, here you will find the Church of the Redeemer,it is a historic Episcopal church located in Asheville, Buncombe County, North Carolina. It was built in 1886-1888, and is a native stone cruciform chapel in the Romanesque style. It measures 50 feet long and has a steeply pitched slate gable roof. It features stained glass in round-arch windows—including a Tiffany window signed by Louis Comfort Tiffany. Also on the property is a contributing cemetery. It was built by Dr. Francis Willis, a British physician, who built the private chapel on his 100-acre estate.
It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985
Church of the Redeemer, built in 1886-1888 with two Tiffany windows, was originally the family chapel for a nearby mansion. The mansion has since burned down. According to witnesses, a female apparition has been spotted coming down the stairs of the sloped cemetery in black. She then crosses Riverside Drive and vanishes into the river. Some believe that this woman drowned in the river many years ago, and might be related to the family who lived in the mansion,or could it be one of its potential victims when the mansion burnt down seeking water to extinguish the flames.
There is the story of the woman in white, who occasionally appears on the steps of the Church of the Redeemer near the prison, then making her way to the nearby waters of the French Broad River before moving on to the prison, not a quarter of a mile away...read all
There are also reports of restless ghosts of the creepy, abandoned Craggy Prison
VIDEO HERE
The Old Craggy Prison was dedicated in May 1924 by the Buncombe County Commissioners, Craggy was one of 51 county prisons that the state assumed responsibility for with the passage of the Conner Bill in 1931. It was one of 61 prisons renovated or built during the late 1930s to house inmates who worked building roads.
In 1987, the General Assembly provided $8.4 million for replacement of the old prison with a new 312-bed facility as part of a $28.5 million Emergency Prison Facilities Development program. The new prison, located about three miles from the old site, opened in May 1989.
The state opted to close the old prison and build a new one as part of the Epps v Martin settlement agreement.
The town is named for Nicholas Washington Woodfin, a renowned lawyer and statesman of early North Carolina, under whom Governor Zebulon Vance clerked as an attorney. Woodfin is the only municipality bearing the name Woodfin in the United States. The town was incorporated in 1971, although the community itself dates back to at least the mid-19th century.

Cherokee Burial Ground Decision
Cherokee Tribal leaders want what is believed to be a burial ground in Macon County, left alone.
Workers building the new Parker Meadows Recreation Park uncovered the remains while clearing land for a ball park. An archeologist believes the remains date back to the 1700's and are Native American.
Macon County and Tribal leaders met Monday in Cherokee to discuss how to proceed with the project. The head of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians says the tribe wants the remains left alone. We've got a good partnership. We'll just see what they come back with. Hopefully it accommodates our request, says Chief Michell Hicks. And this being their ancestors, we're going to adhere to their wishes, says Macon Commissioner Ronnie Beale.
Macon County leaders say they'll go back to the drawing board and look at other designs for the ball fields that would not disturb the grave site. We're going to go back to the drawing board sit down with our engineers and find a real cost, says Macon County Manager Derek Roland.
Roland says re-surveying and re-designing the ball fields will add to the cost of the $3.3 million project. But he says respecting cultures is the right thing to do.
That's a perspective is shared by Mark Downing, a Cherokee from Oklahoma, on the North Carolina reservation for the first time. Because you wouldn't want anybody digging up your ancestors, your grandmas and grandpas and put a baseball field on their cemetery.
Macon County leaders say they'll meet with engineers and architects Wednesday morning to discuss options for reconfiguring the recreation park.

Forever Free Slave Deeds of Buncombe County, NC
A documentary featuring Dr. Darin Waters on the slave deeds of Buncombe County.
The Buncombe County Register of Deeds Office has opened an exhibit to commemorate the 150-year anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation and to remember those who were enslaved and their immeasurable contributions to our community.
The exhibit, located in the lobby of 35 Woodfin Street in Downtown Asheville, will be on display through April 30. The exhibit will move to the NC Collection of the Pack Memorial Library from May 1 - July 31.
In every county in North Carolina, the Register of Deeds played a role in cataloging the transactions of slavery in handwritten books. Contained in these handwritten files from the early 1800s are deeds documenting the trading of slaves as property.
One of the stories highlighted in the Slave Deed exhibit is of a slave named Sarah Gudger. Ms. Gudger was born into slavery in Old Fort, North Carolina but spent the majority of her life in Reems Creek. Her story is one of the only first-hand accounts that we have of slavery in Buncombe County.
Buncombe County displays this documentation for the purpose of historical research, family genealogy, education, and to acknowledge that slavery was a part of our County's history.

Haunted Elk mountain Scenic Highway In Asheville NC Part Two
I got a automatic frequency when I turned on my emf reader. For the Ghost Pro App, I got only one dot to show up, but it was positioned like it would have been flying in the air off the edge of the mountain. Tell me what your story or belief is of this mountain side...?
Also, if anyone is wondering, I changed this video and made it into two parts. People were not watching it all the way. I hope you do and enjoyed learning about a beautiful mountain top! Could this be one of the devils thrones?

Carolina Exposed TV restores Historic Oberlin Cemetery, Raleigh North Carolina
Hip Hop NC-Raleigh, North Carolina- Vandem Productions Films In Association with Carolina Exposed TV and Fort Jackson Entertainment proudly present Historic Oberlin Community Cleanup Event Highlights. The event took place Saturday Feb. 25th 2012 at 1016 Oberlin Rd, Raleigh NC, behind the InterAct Building. Since the Trayvon Martin George Zimmerman Murder Case there have been numerous rallies and protests all of a sudden. But I ask, where are these organizations/businesses before Trayvon Martin was murdered. Well Vandem Productions Films|Carolina Exposed TV/DVD was in the community giving back and it didn't take anybody getting murdered and national attention for us to do so. Many people thought that this event was about Black America but actually this event was about United States Military Veterans that have fought for this country and who also are buried and forgotten in this neglected cemetery known as Oberlin Community Cemetery. I see a lot of North Carolina based hip hop radio stations doing participating in the Trayvon Martin rallies, but I ask where are these companies when there are community issues in our the communities that support them. I didn't see any of them at this event or any community event we cover. This event was very successful but not without controversy. In the next video we will discuss what it was like putting this event together, and the opposition we faced doing so. Regardless the community came together on this day and I want to thank everyone that came out to volunteer.
Here is some brief history of the Oberlin Village Community:

Oakwood Cemetery. Confederate Memorial Service 2010
Virgil H. Goode, Jr. is the guest speaker at this Memorial Day Service at Oakwood Cemetery in Martinsville, Virginia. May 29, 2010 @ 11 am. He urges us to read the real history of the causes of the war, which was not limited to slavery. Sponsored by the Mildred Lee Chapter, UDC and Stuart Hairston Camp, SCV. Presentation of the Colors and Military Salute by the Stuart Hairston Camp, SCV. Commander Daniel Young. Welcome and ritual given by Mrs. Jean Rood.
You are working to preserve and provide a true history...
@ 4:44...The issue of slavery came up. I will agree that slavery was a factor in the War Between the States, but it was not, as many would have you believe today, the only cause of the conflict between 1861 and 1865.
We only have to look at what Abraham Lincoln said and did in that regard. Shortly after his election, Lincoln, who is hailed as the Great Emancipator in the end of slavery in United States, endorsed a Constitutional amendment to make slavery permanent in the fifteen southern states. He also offered to help (this is Abraham Lincoln) southern masters return runaway slaves.
Then, when it came time in 1863 on the Emancipation Proclamation, it only covered the states that were in the Confederacy. It omitted Delaware; it omitted Maryland; it omitted Kentucky and it omitted Missouri. And in 1862, Lincoln wrote ?Harris Freeland? that if he could preserve the Union, slavery was fine with him (and I'm paraphrasing).
So for those historians who want to say that the Civil War was fought only for slavery, I say take another look at history. Read the facts, and see that there were many causes.
I know that in Virginia, Virginia did not join the Confederacy until the troops from the north were gonna march in the south.
And I know the representative from Franklin county, and I'm not sure about Henry county, but Jubal Early was one of the representatives, and you all know him, famous Confederate general who was born in Franklin county, he went to the convention in Richmond to vote on the succession, and he was elected on the platform of not succeeding. But after the action that occurred in the north, and the call for Virginia, and North Carolina and Tennessee to take up arms against South Carolina, they reversed course and voted for succession. To say that they succeeded only because of slavery is just flat wrong. I would urge the rewriters of history and those that do textbooks to analyze all the facets of the Civil War, or the War Between the States, wherever the textbook writer is from, and get it right!

Christ Church Burial Grounds - Research Photos
In this paranormal history video, we are providing a slide show of the research photos we took when we visited the Christ Church Burial Grounds in Philadelphia in 2015. There are many photographs from throughout the entire cemetery and we tried our best to capture as much as possible for research and documentation purposes. This is also the final resting place of Benjamin Franklin and his wife Deborah.
Benjamin Franklin (January 17, 1706 – April 17, 1790) was an American polymath and one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. Franklin was a leading author, printer, political theorist, politician, freemason, postmaster, scientist, inventor, humorist, civic activist, statesman, and diplomat. As a scientist, he was a major figure in the American Enlightenment and the history of physics for his discoveries and theories regarding electricity. As an inventor, he is known for the lightning rod, bifocals, and the Franklin stove, among other inventions. He founded many civic organizations, including the Library Company, Philadelphia's first fire department and the University of Pennsylvania.

ABANDONED Haunted ISLAND in the woods with an old timey bridge that leads to it
Old bridge in the middle of the woods that leads to an island that has folklore and is known as Goats Island, and has the remains of a house that once stood alone on this island. Town folklore says that a man lived on this island and had a lot of goats and he was a killer. I've also heard that this island is haunted, but I don't know. As teenagers in the 90's we hung out here and drank and partied many times and even drove across the bridge in our buddy's Bronco and my uncle Ron and I drove his truck across and did some four wheel drivin on the island. Luckily, we didn't fall through! The Island is surrounded by the Haw River and is in Burlington NC. The Haw River eventually runs into the Atlantic Ocean which is 3 hrs away from this point. I hope you enjoy and please subscribe!
