WalkingtheRoanokeCanalTrail.mov
The Roanoke Canal Trail is a beautiful nature and history trail that follows the bed and towpath of the former Roanoke Navigation Canal. At certain points at the head of the trail at Roanoke Rapids Lake Park, you are walking between two canals, the Navigation Canal that was later converted to power and the Roanoke Power Canal that was a much shorter, much wider canal, created solely to generate electricity. The Power Canal powered our area until the Roanoke Rapids Lake Dam was constructed in 1955. The trail offers amazing historic structures like the Power Canal bulkhead, stone culverts, the Navigation Canal locks, the first power station built beside the locks (now the Roanoke Canal Museum), a stone aqueduct that carried the canal over Chockoyotte Creek and spanned 35 feet in a single arch, a spur trail leading to a mass Confederate cemetery, a canal-powered cotton mill (now Riverside Mill art, antique and outlet mall) and ultimately leading to the Roanoke River where a canal-powered grist mill still stands (now a venue for events). The Roanoke Canal Trail is great for hiking, biking, running and walking any time of year. It is open sunrise to sunset seven days a week. The trail is also a site on the North Carolina Birding Trail.

Jessup Mill Stokes County NC ~ Dan River Multi Species Fishing. In this video I head over to Jessup Mill for some multi species fishing. Jessup Mill is located in Westfield NC of Stokes County. Jessup Mill is a good location to come to for fishing, tubing, hiking or camping. The Dan River runs through Jessup Mill. NC Wildlife stocks the Dan River with trout for the season at Jessup Mill. I caught Largemouth bass Smallmouth bass Brim and Trout. If you want a great place to go fishing for multi species Jessup Mill is the place. North Carolina’s Chip Capps
Southern Loggin' Times Sept 2019 COVER STORY – North Carolina’s Chip Capps Runs The Numbers -
Chip Capps has been logging all of his life. Minus a small stint at NC State in Raleigh, where he earned a degree in engineering and a job in Texas upon graduation, Capps has been involved in logging in North Carolina. But, he’s quick to say his logging operation isn’t that different than the others dotting the southern landscape.
Currently serving as the President of the Carolina Loggers Association (CLA) and a partner in timber dealership River Ridge with Virginian Ronnie White, Capps has seen a lot of logging crews in his time.
With today’s cost structure, Capps believes, getting production is vital. That’s something he tries to teach Weldon, his 20-year-old son who operates one of the loaders on the bigger crew. “I am trying to get him to understand the idea that that is our only source of income. We’ve got to get as much as we can every day.”
