Townsville Floods 2019 Continued - Black Weir, Framara Park & Riverway
Townsville Floods 2019 Continued. This was filmed a couple of days after my first video and the morning after the worst night of the flood. On top of that, the dam gates were opened to 100% at 8pm which lead to a huge amount of water heading downstream and inundating many areas. Worst hit were suburbs like Idalia, Oonoomba, Rosslea, Hermit Park. I can't get to those locations but if you complete a search, you will find lots of videos on YouTube and Facebook.

A glimpse of Riverway, Townsville, where you can cool off in its lagoons, take a peaceful stroll on the boardwalks by the river or picnic in a shady spot under a tree. Riverway features the Pinnacles Art Gallery, cafe and free public amenities including lifeguard-patrolled pools, parking, lockers, showers and barbeques. For kids, there are playgrounds, a large timber fort, a dedicated toddler pool, and sand play.

The Riverway Lagoons and Riverway Arts Centre, including Pinnacles Gallery have been CLOSED to repair damage from the unprecedented flood. These facilities will be closed until further notice until repairs have been completed and it is safe for residents to use the facilities.

Work has begun to repair damage at the Riverway Lagoons and Arts Centre.
Townsville City Council expects the facility will be open by the end of July. However, the works schedule is dependent on the weather and outcome of further damage assessments.

Alligator Creek swimming hole is about 20 kms south of Townsville, Australia in Bowling Green Bay National Park - and YES we can fly here!!! The creek flows between two rocky mountain groups – Mount Elliot and Saddle Mountain.
The swimming hole is cool and refreshing about 5 kms along Alligator Creek Rd.
The park has toilets, picnic and camping facilities. If you’re lucky you might also see rock wallabies, bush turkeys and the odd goanna.

Not the best place for the DJI Phantom 4 Advanced due to the lack of open space and high trees surrounding the waterholes. That said, still a fun day out to fly!

This is just some video of cycling alongside Riverway Drive - Not high quality by any means but it's a nice place to go riding once you get past all the cars.

Located in Townsville on the magnificent Ross River, Riverway offers a dynamic combination of cultural, sports, leisure, residential and commercial activities. With two huge swimming lagoons, the Riverway Arts Centre, Pinnacles Gallery, the Riverwalk and parklands, there truly is so much to explore.
Riverway stands out in riverfront parkland revitalisation in a fashion that generates extensive recognition, opening up the river habitat to greater access by residents and tourists, whilst protecting and enhancing its natural beauty.
Riverway was conceived by Thuringowa City Council as a standard of ecological sensitivity and river management, while simultaneously providing an exciting environment for the citys young and expanding community to enjoy a variety of water-based and waterfront activities.
As a result there are four unique river precincts, each distinct in objective and approach, such that Riverway as a whole is presented as a microcosm of the diversity of river settings that may be found across the worlds tropics.
Riverway stretches along 11km of the Ross River, with nodes at Pioneer Park, Loam Island, Apex Park and the Ross River Dam.
The nodes of Riverway that already have been completed include Pioneer Park and Loam Island, with Pioneer Park being located in the heart of Thuringowa along the Ross River and strategically positioned for connecting the city to the river.
Pioneer Park is the activity centre of Riverway, connected directly to the Thuringowa central business district and integrating culture, sport, dining, shopping, living, business life and passive recreation.
Love Every Drop - Townsville's Water Story
Townsville's water consumption is amongst the highest in Australia. The city's Ross Dam is wide and shallow and suffers high evaporation levels. In times of drought, Townsville is able to access water from the Burdekin Dam. But if we start pumping before the Ross Dam gets to below 20%, most of what we pump would evaporate back into the atmosphere. It's never been more important to reduce our water consumption and Love Every Drop.
