Drive from Chicago, IL to Elkhart Lake, WI | Road America!
A super long time lapse of our drive from Chicago to Road America. We made a stop half way through and i wiped off the super wet camera. The GoPro took a picture every 5 seconds in the first half of the video and then every 2 seconds for the rest of it. The foggy was absolutely crazy too, the visibility had to be a 1/10th of a mile at some points. The GoPro only got wet because of this fog, there was no rain at all. We went in the media entrance of Road America off of county J.

Endurance Karting, Road America, Elkhart Lake, WI
Endurance Karting go-kart race at the Briggs & Stratton Motorplex*, at Road America, Elkhart Lake, WI, on July 6, 2002. The Motorplex is located between the Hurry Downs and the Kink. Originally a 54-minute VHS video put together by the track photographer, with cheesy music, I've edited it down to 10 minutes, with more up-tempo songs.
Many major road racing figures have raced with Endurance Karting: Matt McMurry (youngest ever Le Mans driver); Hurley Haywood (multiple Le Mans, Sebring, Daytona 24 and IMSA champion); Boris Said (Sebring, Daytona 24 and Nürburgring 24 champion); Jan Lammers (Le Mans and Daytona 24 champion); Timo Bernhard (Le Mans, Sebring, Daytona 24 and ALMS champion); Calvin Fish (Sebring and Daytona 24 champion); Chris McMurry (Sebring champion); Jim Downing (HANS inventor); John Paul Jr. (IMSA champion); Marco Andretti (IndyCar).
Endurance Karting:
* Since re-branded as the Blain's Farm & Fleet Motorplex.

American Touring Car Championship - Round One - Road America
he first round of the new season of the American Touring Car Championship this past Friday did not fail to impress, with the usual action-packed roster of racing with some of the fastest virtual Touring Car drivers in the world.Round 1 took place at the historic Road America circuit in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. This high-speed circuit was always expected to provide some exciting racing, as it is just wide enough for passing and has many hard braking zones after long straights.
The next round of the championship is at the Nürburgring GP circuit in Germany. While this modern track, opened in 1985, is no patch on its big brother, the infamous Nordschleife, it is still a challenging track to drive and an exciting one to watch racing on. Car advantages are left wide open here -- we may very well see a variety of cars taking each other on up the front, but don't discount the Peugeot 407 -- this car, in the hands of Kane Lasky, dominated qualifying at the pre-season race here. What's more, the race is also thrown wide open by the possibility of full wet weather! It will be interesting to see how the drivers of ATCC, who usually race in the dry, cope with this development.

In February Elkhart Lake's Road America's Program Manager Mike Kertscher took a Chevrolet Corvette Pace Car out of the garage to have some fun on and around the 4-mile road course just after a light snowfall.
Situated on 640 grassy acres in the rolling, wooded hills of Wisconsin's Kettle Moraine is Road America, an internationally known motorsports complex. With one of the country's longest road racing circuits, this world-acclaimed facility has been hosting motorsports events and enthusiasts since 1955.Road America also offers a wide range of opportunities including group adventure programs, driving schools and the popular motorcycle school.
With 59 years of history and advancements in technology and design, it is no wonder Corvette has carved a permanent niche into the global automotive landscape. It's the top-selling high-performance sports car in its segment and stands alone as the only truly American sports car in the competitive class. And now with advancements in performance and technology, Corvette reaches new heights again in 2012.
From its standard 430-horsepower LS3 all-aluminum V8 engine, 190-mph performance and its 26 MPG highway fuel efficiency, Corvette defines state-of-the-art technology, engineering and design among luxury sports cars year after year.

With much appreciation, I wish to thank S. Chapple of the Elkhart Lake Historic Race Circuits Preservation Society and T. Schultz, the Road America Track Historian. Mr. Schultz narrowed the date of the race to 1952 and Mr. Chapple found the exact date:
The race in your film is the Elkhart Lake Cup race, the main event held on Sunday, September 7, 1952. The initial footage is shot on CTH P near the Theel farm and at the Marsh Turn a sharp right hand turn off CTH P onto CTH J.

1964 Road America 500 Part 3
The Road America 500 was a sports car race held at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. The event began in 1950, and in 1951 was added to the SCCA National Sports Car Championship. Following a spectator death at the 1952 Watkins Glen Grand Prix, racing on open roads was discouraged, and the race went into hiatus until 1955, when a permanent circuit was opened. In 1963, the race shifted to the new United States Road Racing Championship.
In 1964, Carroll Shelby was there with his Cobra team headed by driver Ken Miles. The competition was stiff with Roger Penske for Ferrari, Jim Hall in his Chaparral, Augie Pabst driving with Team Lola and a host of Jaguars, E Type Jags, Stingrays and others.
Penske was right, Shelby's Cobra's brakes couldn't take the punishment and too many pit stops cost them a victory.
Augie Pabst and co-driver Bill Wuesthoff earned that but the Cobra's placed finished and placed high enough to give Shelby the Manufacturing Championship for 1964. A huge victory for his start up company.
