Isle of Man 100 Mile Thru-Hike: Raad Ny Foillan
I went on a 7 day trek around the Isle of Man Coast, known as the Raad Ny Foillan or the road of the gull. The Isle is located between Ireland and England in the Irish Sea. As I walked there were times when I didn’t see another human for 2 days. Along with this isolation came other struggles, such as lack of food and clean water sources. So with my minimal survival skills, obviously it was one of the best things I have ever done. Watch and enjoy this video I recently put together as it not only depicts my day to day adventures, but the scenery I encountered as well.

The Isle of Man is located in the middle of the northern Irish Sea, almost equidistant from England, Northern Ireland, Scotland (closest), and Wales (farthest). It is 52 kilometres (32 mi) long and, at its widest point, 22 kilometres (14 mi) wide. It has an area of around 572 square kilometres (221 sq mi). Besides the island of Mann itself, the political unit of the Isle of Man includes some nearby small islands: the seasonally inhabited Calf of Man, Chicken Rock on which stands an unmanned lighthouse, St Patrick's Isle and St Michael's Isle. The last two of these are connected to the main island by permanent roads/causeways.
Ranges of hills in the north and south are separated by a central valley. The northern plain, by contrast, is relatively flat, consisting mainly of deposits from glacial advances from western Scotland during colder times. There are more recently deposited shingle beaches at the northernmost point, the Point of Ayre. The island has one mountain higher than 600 metres (2,000 ft), Snaefell, with a height of 620 metres (2,034 ft). According to an old saying, from the summit one can see six kingdoms: those of Mann, Scotland, England, Ireland, Wales, and Heaven. Some versions add a seventh kingdom, that of the sea, or Neptune

ROD STEWART _ EVERY BEAT OF MY HEART.
Every Beat Of My Heart lyrics
Through these misty eyes I see lonely skies
lonely road to Babylon.
Where's my family and my country?
Heaven knows where I belong.
Pack my bags tonight
here's one Jacobite who must leave or surely die.
Put me on a train in the pouring rain
Say farewell but don't say good-bye.
Seagull
carry me over land and sea
To my own folk
that's where I wanna be.
Ev'ry beat of my heart tears me further apart
I'm lost and alone in the dark
I'm qoing home !
One more glass of wine just for auld lang syne:
And the girl I left behind.
How I miss her now in my darkest hour
and the way our arms entwine.
Seagull
carry Ine over land and sea . . .
And we'll drink a toast to the blood of the red rose
Cheer a while the Emerald Isle.
And to the northern lights and the swirling pipes
How they make a grown man cry.
Seagull
carry me over land and sea . . .
Ev'ry beat of my heart tears me further apart
I'm lost and I'm alone in the dark
I'm going home ! I'm going home !

Not a cloud in the sky today for the 2019 Otago International Classic Rally. Our guest presenter Colin Clark marvels at the roads, cars and drivers taking part in New Zealand’s best gravel rally. LONDON 2012 OLYMPICS #2 - SAILING - PORTLAND BILL - by Stuart Fretwell & Stewart Rodgers - Kodak Zi6
CHECK OUT THE 1ST VIDEO, HERE - North end the Island, Olympic Village, Chiswell -
CHECK OUT THE 3RD VIDEO, HERE - Chesil beach, North end of the Island, where the Australian sailing team celebrated the opening of the Games with a party at Cove House Inn -
On the 27th July 2012, the London Olympics will officially begin. For the following month or so things will be pretty hectic at the National Sailing Academy, at the northern end of The Isle Of Portland in Dorset U.K.
Here's a look at the quieter southern tip; home to the famous Portland Bill lighthouse, rugged limestone ledges dropping to the sea, native coastal flora & the treacherous Portland-Race ocean current.
The Isle & Royal Manor of Portland ( to give it its full title) is a huge block of oolitic limestone, jutting out into the English Channel. It is not, strictly-speaking, an island but rather a 'Tombolo' - a mass of land, joined to the mainland by a shingle bank; in this case the world-famous Chesil Beach which extends for some 14 kms.
The shingle bank is separated from the mainland, for some of its length, by a brackish tidal strip called The Fleet, where wonderful oysters are cultivated. In the same area you will find the R.S.P.B. bird reserve. A new cafe, education-centre and viewing area has been completed in time for the Olympics!
Unless you walk the length of Chesil beach, there is only one way, on or off, the Isle . . and that is by using a road-bridge which crosses the Fleet, where it enters Portland Harbour. It's certainly going to be busy during the Olympics!

The Beautiful Isle of Man 1 (A little wind noise, sorry!)
I wanted to quickly show you were I live, the beautiful Isle of Man. The island lies in the middle of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, in the Irish Sea. We are part of the British Isle but not the UK. We have our own government, known as Tynwald, which is the longest continuous government in the world, established in 979AD. We have our own money, linked to sterling, but we can't spent it in the UK. The island is also famous for the annual TT motorcycle races, for which people from all over the world come to watch and also Manx cats because they have no tails! I did live in Mauritius for a while, but it good to be home. Cheers Rik PS Sorry for the poor sound quality, the mic really picked up the wind, even though it wasn't that windy. I've tried to reduce it but this is the best I could get it!
