A day trip to the Garifuna village of Cayos Cochinos in Honduras was a fascinating adventure. The people live largely without modern conveniences including running water and electricity, making a living as fishermen. There are two outhouses on the island and one generator which powers the single community TV set, where soccer games are the only programs watched. Trip with Rony's Tours, Roatan, Honduras(1). Part 1
On our 2nd. Trip to Roatan, Honduras we went out touring again with Rony of Rony's Tour. He is a genuine islander who loves his country, it's culture and people. His open and honest personality is refreshing and you can see that wherever he goes on the island people trust him. On this trip he took our friends and us to see the Monkeys, Anthony's Key and afterwards Rony took us to meet some of his family in El Swampo. El Swampo is in Coxen Hole. Capturing HDR images of the sunrise in Roatan, Honduras
On my last day in Roatan, Honduras I woke up early to capture HDR images of the beach outside my hotel at sunrise. The sun was rising behind me, but the color of the light was still seen on the clouds in the sky on my side of the island. It was the only morning I had available because every other day we were up early to travel to the island of St. Helene. In order to capture the beautiful sky and still expose the rock/reef peninsula I was shooting, I had to shoot multiple exposures to combine as an HDR image using Photomatix. Because I was shooting raw I could have pushed the shadows in Adobe Lightroom, but I also wanted the drama that the HDR image would bring to the seen. This video shows how I captured them and used a graduated ND filter to retain detail in the images.

Honduras is part of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System - the second largest coral reef system in the world. It stretches from Belize, to Cancun through the Riviera Maya and up to Honduras. There’s always a possibility of seeing: sea turtles, tropical fish, eels, channels and caverns… something different every time. Here’s a preview of what we saw.
