Scotland - Rob Roy MacGregor's Grave
This one was taken at the grave of Rob Roy MacGregor. We were on a two-day Timberbush Tour into the Highlands. On our way up to Fort William we made this stop at Balquhidder. The man speaking is one of our favorite Timberbush Tours guides, Marty. He is extremely knowledgeable with a very dry sense of humor. Rob Roy is Marty's favorite historical figure and this is evident from his presentation. This stop at Balquhidder was fascinating because it's not the typical touristy venue. There was no gift shop selling Rob Roy knick knacks or other schemes to turn a tourist dollar (or rather pound) just a simple gravesite in a beautiful, rural Scottish churchyard in the village that Rob Roy called home.
This is an older video from 2010. It's not in widescreen or HD but still worth seeing.

Rob Roy MacGregor Grave Balquhidder Scotland
Tour Scotland travel video of the Rob Roy MacGregor grave on ancestry visit to Balquhidder. In 1734 the most famous outlawed MacGregor, Rob Roy MacGregor, was buried a little to the east of the Old Church, where he still lays, alongside his wife and two of his sons. The rail their graves was a later addition, which wrongly reports his age at death as 70, he actually died aged 63. The gravestone carrying a reference to his outlawed name MacGregor Despite Them was added in 1981.
Jake and Serafina at Balquhidder at 'Rob Roys Grave'
Today we travelled into Perthshire, which was about 26 miles from Tyndrum, and went to a place called Balquhidder, and took a single track road to Balquhidder church. This is were Robert Roy Macgregor, his wife and son are buried. This is also the area where he herded cattle to markets in Glasgow. But later in his life cattle rustled them.

HOLIDAY IN SCOTLAND ROB ROY STYLE 2007
CATRINS HOLIDAY IN SCOTLAND WITH A SELECTION OF PHOTOS SHE TOOK WHILE SHE WAS THEIR WITH HER PAL TO THE FILM MUSIC OF ROB ROY.
Rob Roy (1923) | BFI National Archive
This ambitiously-staged biopic of Highland rogue and rebel Robert MacGregor benefits from extensive location shooting in the Trossachs as well as at nearby Stirling Castle. Nationalist sentiments are played down in this telling of the tale, with the conflict more personalised as Rob and the Duke of Montrose become rivals in love. It's a pity we couldn't have had more of Sandy the Biter, though.
Although Sir Walter Scott's 1817 novel 'Rob Roy' was instrumental in establishing the real-life Robert MacGregor as a popular figure in Scottish folklore, the film's opening title card: To Scotland, not to Scott, did we go for the facts…, affirms that the film is not based on that famous book - nor the facts either, come to that.

Final proper stop at Loch Katrine
We make our final food stop at Loch Katrine (Trossachs Pier) where the midges didn't seem so bad. It was a bit drier here too!
Seabhag Chlann Ghriogair - Le: Páraig MacNéil - The Falcon of Clan Gregor
S'i seò an t-òran eile a rinn Páraig MacNéil fhéin airson Comann Chlann Ghriogair. S'i' seò an t-òran airson Cruinneacheadh nan Griogaireach (International Homecoming) a' bh 'innt' nuar a thilleadh an cinne gu dh' Alba ann an 2009 agus 2014.
Here is another song that Paraig MacNeil himself composed for Clan Gregor Society. This song was for the gathering of the MacGregors (International, Homecoming) when their kindred returned to Scotland in 2009 and 2014.
Translation:
The Falcon of Clan Gregor
The falcon am I above the glens
midst the bens beside Loch Lomond
throughout the keening winds in this time
freely bewailing the bold hunting cry
Chorus
O gather o gather o fàl ill hi o
O gather o gather o fàl ill il hil
O gather o gather o fàl ill hi o
The falcon of Clan Gregor am I
The falcon am I midst the goats
hunting the deer, on the ascent of the ben; and with
the tongue of the Finglians, in the land of the heroes
with the harp, I’m melodically attuning the verses
The falcon am I on wings in the mist.
Its through Glen Gyle and above crofts
and over loch and summit, that I am, under sorrow,
watching over the patrimony of the lion; desolate
The falcon am I on the point of each peak
above Glen Carnaig and Balquidder
like a herdsman around each scant cattle fold
and each little grey shieling, gathering cattle
The falcon am I behind the stones
and twisting streams throughout Glen Lyon
my shelter in the grey caves
where I lie without sleep farther from the foe
The falcon am I with the company of my beloved
in Glen Strae and Glen Orchy
my old tartan belted plaid doubled around my back
but away from me also is the scabbard of my blade
When I run with the excellent branches of renown
a binding oath comes upon my voice, and I cry ‘badge of pine’
and with the sound of the refrain and of the tune
in that moment I’m bravely striking the shield
Despoiler am I when the justice of the (ancient) laws
like the brightness of the moon from heaven shines
it is beasts, over the passes and the glens
that I bring, in truth, with me to poor families
On wings am I from generation to generation
returning often to the kings of Dalriada
declaiming the line down to Alpin himself
The great royal ancestor of Clan Gregor, my heart
Like a shepherd now; from land to land
when the clan comes again over seas
l will, until the day dawns, truly cry:
despite them forever “It’s MacGregors that we are!”.

Scotland - Culloden Battlefield
We were heading back from our three-day Timberbush Tours trip to the Highlands and Skye. Angela, our driver/guide, suggested stopping at Culloden. Since none of us had ever been there before, we all jumped at the chance. We arrived late in the day with just enough time to watch the amazing 360 degree filmed re-enactment of the battle, check out a few of the museum exhibits and walk the battlefield itself. When I got to the memorial cairn I realized it was actually the anniversary of the battle.
