Deià is a small coastal village in the Serra de Tramuntana, which forms the northern ridge of the Spanish island of Mallorca. Deia is located about 16 kilometres north of Valldemossa, and Deia is known for its literary and musical residents. Its idyllic landscape, orange and olive groves on steep cliffs overlooking the Mediterranean, served as a draw for German, English, and American expatriates after the First World War.
The English poet, novelist, and scholar Robert Graves was one of the first foreigners to settle in the village of Deia , where he collaborated with Laura Riding in setting up the Seizin Press. Graves returned after the war and remained in Deià until his death. He used the town of Deia as the setting for many of his stories, including the historical novel Hercules my Shipmate. His house is now a museum.
Anaïs Nin visited the village of Deia in the 1920s, and she wrote a short story set on the village's beach. The Spanish writer, Carme Riera, recently wrote a short story about Nin's. The town of Deia is also the unnamed setting of the Uruguayan novelist Cristina Peri Rossi's The Ship of Fools (La nave de los locos). The Nicaraguan poet and novelist, Claribel Alegría, lives in Deià today. Anja Rubik married fellow model Sasha Knezevic in this village in July 2011.
In recent decades, the stars of literature have been eclipsed by the stars of rock and roll. The Virgin Records mogul Richard Branson has a luxury residence in the town of Deia , and his label's stars have often visited the village of Deia and sometimes jammed at the local bar, Sa Fonda. Deià was home to several Canterbury-scene musicians over the years, including Kevin Ayers, Robert Wyatt, and Daevid Allen. Mick Jagger, guitarist Mark Knopfler, and Mike Oldfield played there often in the late 1980s, as did Caroline Corr. Much of Fionn Regan's third studio album, 100 Acres of Sycamore was inspired by his time spent in Deià.
( Deia - Spain ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Deia . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Deia - Spain

Robert Graves about the Nobel Prize
Robert Graves' opinion about the Nobel Prize. If you don't understand spanish, he says:
Once in Australia they asked me: What do you think about the Nobel Prize? And I answered: It's the death's kiss, because if they give you the prize and you accept, you will never more write anything value.
Interwiew in Majorca, 1.970.
Visiting The White Goddess, Robert Graves' mansion in Mallorca!
This is The White Goddess; a home that the English poet and writer Robert Graves (1895-1985) built in Mallorca in tribute of his most outspoken book. He spent his days sitting in the garden, looking out to see his beautiful white Goddess through the branches while he wrote his poems.
The place was mesmerizing. I felt that I could get lost forever in that peaceful casa.

Deya Hey Days - Revisiting the 60's 'Nowhere Man' Deia Museum 14th August 2008
Tomás Graves (Spanish guitar, voice), Louis Atlas (guitar, harmonica, lead vocals) Pepe Milan (guitar, mandolin) performing at the Deya Hey Days 'Revisiting the 60's' show held in Deia Museum, Clot, Deia, Mallorca on 14th August 2008.
In the 60/70's, the Museum held regular acoustic concerts with many of the musicians from The Guitar Centre in Palma (Pepe, Tomás, John Fisher, Joan Bibiloni, Bob Jones etc); the intimacy and acoustics made the Museum magical. 30 years later, the musicians decided to play the same unplugged set twice, to allow a larger audience to participate, rather than play amplified outside.
Steve Rawson (Dublin, Ireland) visits the small village of Deia in Mallorca at least once every year and in August 2008 took this video recording of a local festival celebrating the artistic legacy of this small but beautiful Mallorcan village.
Note: PLEASE EXCUSE THE POOR QUALITY OF PICTURE
Deia is a small village situated in the northwest of Mallorca between the port town of Soller and the historic monastic settlement of Valdemossa. It is tucked under the brooding and sheer rocky mountainside of the Traumuntana mountains a couple of kilometres from the local Cala and is distinguished by its ubiquitous array of pine, olive and lemon trees while its olive grove ridges come alive to the sound of tinkling goat bells particularly in early morning and at sundown.
Deia has a fine legacy of attracting artists of every description to its tiny enclave painters, poets, writers, songwriters, composers, archaeologists, historians have all passed through its small main street and populated its tiny bars or bar as the case may be. It was home to the renowned writer and poet, Robert Graves who is buried in the tiny cemetery in the small church on the prominent hill that overlooks the tiny village.
