The Robert Louis Stevenson Trail Begins, France
Robert Louis Stevenson of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde and Treasure Island fame was mentally in a bad place and decided a possible cure would be to walk across an area of France. He hired a donkey, Modestine, a set off on a 220 km/136 mile, 12-day trip from the Auvergne region to the mountains of the Cevannes.
This route is now called Chemin Stevenson and ex-Marine (husband, Steve) and I set off to follow in his tracks... Follow along with us...

Crews battle along wildfire front lines in northern California
(13 Oct 2017) Firefighters gained some ground overnight in northern California as the blazes grew little in favourable weather, but crews face another battle against gusty winds, low humidity and higher temperatures expected Friday.
Since igniting Sunday in spots across eight counties, the blazes have killed an unprecedented 32 people and destroyed thousands of homes and businesses.
The death toll was expected to keep rising.
Individual fires including the Oakland Hills blaze of 1991 had killed more people than any one of the current blazes, but no collection of simultaneous fires in California had ever led to so many deaths, authorities said.
Firefighters continue to hit the Tubbs Fire hard north of Calistoga as strong winds were expected to pick up in the afternoon and into the night in the area, worrying officials that the blaze could jump a highway and threaten nearby towns, putting the town of Calistoga square in the flames' crosshairs.
Firefighters say depending on which way the wind blows on Friday night, and how much they can contain, the blaze could blow south to Calistoga or north to Middletown, which was devastated by a wildfire two years ago.
Both ends of the fire are a concern and firefighters are keeping a close eye on it and getting actively engaged both from the air and from the ground, said Greg Bertelli with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, known as Cal Fire.
Fire continues to blaze on Mt. St Helena at Robert Louis Stevenson State Park, burning down both sides of the mountain.
Helicopters and large air tankers worked through the day dropping water and retardant on the flames but thick smoke still billowed, in some places obscuring the entire road, and the fire stubbornly continued to push in practically all directions.

Day Hike - River to Ridge, Buckeye, Tueter Loop - 11.5 Miles, Napa, CA
My new favorite trail in Skyline Wilderness Park is Buckeye Trail. This 11.5 mile hike takes you from the Napa Valley College and JFK Botanical Gardens Parking area, all the way to the very edge of Skyline Wilderness Park. This path gives you a very intimate look at Skylines beautiful landscapes, diverse animal life, and the very rich history of the area as you will see old ruins of homes and structures lost to time.
Take River to Ridge Trail for 1.7 miles, and bear right to reach Buckeye Trail. Stay on Buckeye trail for 2.3 miles, and bear right towards Tueter Loop (Technically also known as Skyline and Bay Area Ridge Trail). Stay on this trail for 1 mile, passing Lake Marie from above, both the Chaparral Trail and Rim Rock Trail Junctions, until you reach the Tueter Loop junction. You can choose to go left or right, as both will return you to the bottom of the balloon shaped loop. The loop distance is 1.5 miles. I elected to go right, in a counterclockwise path. You will reach gates which have signs instructing you to close them behind you, and to respect private property.
On the way back, take the Chaparral Trail to the right for a nice short incline and beautiful view of Lake Marie. When you reach the Marie Creek / Chaparral trail junction, make a sharp left and down the slope to head back to Lake Marie Road. There are nice picnic areas all around this area. Your hike will be measured at about 7.7 miles at this point.
Take Lake Marie Road all the way back to the River to Ridge trail and to the parking area in 3.7 miles. Total trip will be about 11.5 miles.

60 Seconds at the Francis Ford Coppola Winery
Academy Award winning director Francis Ford Coppola purchased the former Chateau Souverain winery facility in Geyserville, California, in March 2006 and appointed Corey Beck as its director of winemaking and general manager. Over the next four years, Corey and Francis and Eleanor Coppola worked to grow the family of Francis Ford Coppola wines from 12 to 45, highlighting the Sonoma Valley vineyards with brands Director's, Director's Cut, and FC Reserve. The winery expanded as well, with new tasting rooms, two restaurants, a swimming pool, a movie gallery, a performing arts pavilion, and a park area.
Take a 60-second vacation to the vineyards at Francis Ford Coppola Winery and take in the beauty of the Sonoma Valley.
