DE WETSHOF / ELLERMAN HOUSE WINE GALLERY
The name De Wetshof has been synonymous with the production of fine wines in South Africa since the 1970's. As the first registered wine estate in the Robertson Wine Valley, De Wetshof has become known internationally as South Africa's eminent Chardonnay House due to the pioneering role it played in introducing this noble Burgundian grape to the country.
The De Wet family's winemaking heritage can, however, be traced back to 1694 when the first De Wets arrived at the Cape and immediately made a mark on the South African wine industry.
Mariah Robertson’s Chemical Reactions | ART21 New York Close Up
How does an artist come to grips with the uncontrollable? Filmed over the course of four years, artist Mariah Roberston experiments with photographic chemistry in her Brooklyn darkroom, leading to a striking series of colorful cameraless abstractions. Confronted with a roll of paper that was accidentally exposed, Robertson begins to play with the ruined paper, saying “I always enjoy trying to make something out of the unwanted thing and go deeper into the disaster.” Robertson experiments with developer, fixer, and water at various concentrations and temperatures, creating vibrant images that appear to have optical or painterly effects but instead are the result of arrested chemical reactions. Robertson faces another challenge when she discovers that metallic photo paper no longer comes in precut sheets but only on coiled rolls. Forced to adjust, she responds by tearing rolls of paper into free-form sheets with jagged edges. In contravention of standard exhibition practice, Robertson installs the fully exposed rolls of 100 feet or more as unframed sculptural ribbons, hanging them in looping swathes that respond to the surrounding architecture. Contemplating what it means to exhibit her one-of-a-kind artworks in such a vulnerable way, Robertson suggests that “all your attempts are gonna fail at controlling life, so you should let that go so you can actually see what's happening.” Featuring the artworks 33 (2014) and 222 (2012) in the artist’s darkroom; 11 (2012) installed in the exhibition XL: 19 New Acquisitions in Photography at The Museum of Modern Art; 113 (2012) at M+B; 9 (2011) installed at Museum 52 and BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art; 88 (2010) installed in the exhibition Greater New York at MoMA PS1; as well as the installation process for the exhibition Hot Tropical Rain Jam (2011) at Museum 52; and the Halloween opening for the exhibition Permanent Puberty (2013) at American Contemporary. Featuring the songs Mavi Sepet (2008) by Hayvanlar Alemi, Divider (2011) and Air Hockey Saloon (2014) by Chris Zabriskie, and Jeremiah Iriemiah’s reggae cover of How Deep Is Your Love (1977) by the Bee Gees.
Mariah Robertson (b. 1975, Indianapolis, IN, USA) grew up in Sacramento, California, and lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Learn more about the artist at:

JENNY REYNEKE -The Ways To Summer Exhibition of South African Landscapes- TINA SKUKAN GALLERY
“I met Thea Nigrini for the first time in 2001 when I was travelling through to Pietersburg to deliver paintings that would become my first major series of landscapes, namely The Soliloquy series of landscapes. This comprised a collection of landscapes combined with the poetry that inspired the works. In beginning the works towards ‘The Ways To Summer’ a poem of the Soliloquy kept playing in my mind and in the painting of these works for the Tina Skukan gallery, these words in fact became a song that I would sing while painting.
The works for The Ways To Summer have become a source of deep reflection and celebration of the paths I have taken through life to this point. I have, through the interpretation of landscapes expressed a deep gratitude for the life roads, their storms, their brilliance, their yearning and joy. In many ways, I feel that this series has been a series of prayers; prayers for the country that I love so deeply – my Africa, prayers for the well being and safe keeping of our culture – our people – my people, prayers for those I hold dear and for the legacy of hope which is within each of us to grow and maintain.
‘The Ways To Summer’ series began in a time of deep personal angst and concern for South Africa, but through the painting, began to feel a deep sense of rightness, that all is as it is meant to be and that my social obligation is to simply be who I am and to express through vibrant colour the love I feel for my country and its people.
The landscapes depicted are all places that I have travelled and breathed in 2017, from Randburg, to Magaliesburg, to Dullstroom, Musina, to Parys, to the wide open fields of the Free State. ”

Medieval armour construction - Making a Maximilian Cuirass Pt 2
This episode I start forming the breastplate itself and getting it into its rough form and start smoothing it out
My background - My Name is Calvin and I live in South Africa. I have been making armour properly since I was 18 in 2007 where I always wanted my own suite of armour but realised that due to where I stay and not having enough money that I shall make my own, as I so often did growing up. Now over 10 years later I strive to create historically accurate armour that would do armourers several hundred years ago proud. I work full time and so only get to do what I love in my limited spare time however I hope to bring our regular videos to keep everyone up to date and hopefully show some how I make certain items and even better hope to inspire some of you to get started in this age-old craft.
Annandale Vineyards, Stellenbosch, South Africa
This was my favorite of all of the vineyards we visited in Cape Town. It was very down to earth, and there was absolutely no high tech bullcrap to make themselves seem better than they are. The wine was the best of everywhere we went, and the people were amazing.

The story of Robinsons Snake Man ~ Video and Picture, is it true?
More Photos and Videos visit:
Know the truth behind the Robinson Snake story
According to the story, the snakeman had access to the mall's CCTV cameras, and would spy on women in the dressing rooms. If he saw a woman he liked, he would flip a switch and the woman would drop through a hole in the floor, straight into his arms.
Actress Alice Dixon was once rumored to be among the snake's almost-victims, and was allegedly paid a considerable amount to keep her silence.
In a speech Gokongwei-Pe gave in 2008 at the University of the Philippines' School of Economics, she tackled the rumors, telling the graduating students:
I have no idea who started this incredible story, but I have to tell you that some people believed it and even started staring at my legs to see if there were any signs of snakeskin. A few people still ask me about it, and I have to tell them na naging handbag na ho sa Robinsons Department Store.
Thank goodness there was no Internet yet at that time, or you would start receiving photos of me with a snake's body and my kakambal na snake with a woman's legs, she said.
In short the Robinsons Snake story is Hoax. It's not true, even Alice Dixon denied it.

Cliffie Moses vocalese -How I met Basil. 1997 (?) JJG Bellville South.
Basil Mannenberg' Coetzee Benefit at Jean's Jazz Gallery, Bellville South, Cape Town. Various artists took part in this event to raise funds for Basil, who was battling cancer. Various musicians participated, from Paul Abrahams to Hilton Schilder and Eldred Schilder.
This is not the most wonderful of recordings. I digitised it from cassette. Am posting this because it has some historical value.
I am guessing who played on this piece. It has Clifford Moses sharing a story of meeting Basil, referring to the Four Sounds group who guest featured Basil, (hence the cover used here)telling about District 6 and the scattered removals of its people. Jazz and resistance are inextricably entwined.
Pieter van Tonder | A glimpse in the life of a surrealist painter

He creates original paintings mostly from imagination: realistic, imaginary landscapes with very subtle symbolism. Sometimes he paints a vivid dream or vision. He works in oils on canvas.
You can find his work and current paintings for sale, here:
He accepts commissions and original paintings can be shipped anywhere in the world.
