Old Photographs Beauly Highlands Of Scotland
Tour Scotland wee video of old photographs of Beauly, Scottish Gaelic: A' Mhanachainn, a town in the Kilmorack Parish of the Scottish Highlands. The town historically traded in coal, timber, lime, grain and fish. Mary Queen of Scots is said to have visited Beauly in 1564 and stayed overnight. The history of the village is inextricably linked with a number of the Scottish clans, most notably the Lovat Frasers who owned much of the land around the town. The Chisholms owned much of the land on the north side of the River Beauly and ruled from Erchless Castle while the Mackenzie clan ruled the lands to the North of Beauly. Beauly is the site of the Beauly Priory, or the Priory Church of the Blessed Virgin and John the Baptist, founded in 1230 by John Byset of the Aird, for Valliscaulian monks. Following the Reformation, the buildings, except for the church, which is now a ruin, passed into the possession of Lord Lovat. Beauly is also the site of Lovat Castle, which once belonged to the Bissets, but was presented by James VI, to Hugh Fraser, 5th Lord Lovat and later demolished. The Inverness and Ross-shire Railway, which was to be a line between Inverness and Invergordon, was authorised in 1860, and opened in stages. The first section, that between Inverness and Dingwall, opened on 11 June 1862, and one of the original stations was that at Beauly. The River Beauly, Scottish Gaelic: Abhainn nam Manach, is a river in the Scottish Highlands, about 10 miles west of the city of Inverness. The river begins near the village of Struy, at the confluence of the River Farrar and the River Glass. The river meanders as it flows east, passing to the south of the village of Beauly and into the Beauly Firth. Beaufort Castle near the town of Beauly is a Baronial style mansion built in 1880, but incorporates older building work. There has been a castle on the site since the 12th century. Beaufort is the traditional seat of the Lords Lovat. The earliest mention of the site, as Downie or Dounie Castle, occurs in the reign of King Alexander I, 1106 to 1124, when a siege took place.

Sea wall Seafield.mp4
Taking a walk on the high side, along the sea wall at Seafield Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland......19th Feb 2010..
BRIEF HISTORICAL NOTES ON KIRKCALDY
by Elizabeth Robertson.
In 1075 Malcolm Canmore granted the Shire of Kirkaladunt to the Abbott of Dunfermline , entitling him to receive taxes from the shire. This is the first written reference found to the small settlement probably in the area where the harbour is now, perhaps to the foot of Kirk Wynd. A degree of control by Dunfermline continued until the middle of the seventeenth century.
During the next century the town stretched along the coastline to the end of what is now the High Street, becoming known unofficially as the Lang Toun - the name has remained although the shape of the town has altered.
Late in the nineteenth century the villages of Pathhead, Sinclairtown, Gallatown and Linktown were united with Kirkcaldy to form one Burgh. Finally the Burgh of Dysart was incorporated in 1930.
Although the Norman conquest did not have a direct effect on Scotland some Norman barons came north and were granted lands in return for support against Highland incursions. Feudalism resulted, trade increased and by the end of the twelfth century the town had spread along the shore and present High street area. At some point a church was built, probably on the site of the Old Kirk. It was mentioned in the middle of the twelfth century and visited by the Bishop of St. Andrews in 1244.
Early in the 14th century Kirkcaldy had a weekly market and two annual Fairs.(The fair was a week long opportunity to trade with special privileges.)The Burgesses who virtually ruled the town found it a way of controlling trade and buyers and sellers found it convenient.

NARRATOR: A hive of honeybees has to coordinate the activities of thousands of workers to ensure a healthy and productive colony.
In much the same way a project as large as Parkland with 40 subcontractors and more than 6 million man hours has to run at the peak of efficiency.
To make this daunting task a reality, BARA implemented a creative scheduling solution known as Pull Planning.
DICK BAYER: The original things that they wanted to drive to the project specifically in Lean were the scheduling aspects of the last planner system
HUNTER ROBERTSON: Every week we meet with a six week look ahead. We get all the subcontractors together and we talk about all the different tasks that will be coming up in next six weeks.
KATE MARTIN: It was very proactive of BARA to implement this process because it is new SAM MOSES: We were pretty skeptical of it, but after two or three weeks of that, we saw that this is the real deal. And I will use some type of Pull Planning or the lean scheduling the rest of my career.
