Russia: Robots rule first Moscow gadget festival
The first Russian Gadget Festival opened in Moscow's Crocus Expo centre on Thursday, attended by the leading brands, resellers, developers and specialists in the global tech industry. Guests were greeted at the entrance by welcoming robots who conducted talkative tours of the exhibits of the fair, inviting guests for coffee after the tour.
Among the newest gizmos being showcased is the Playdisplay device, an application that allows camera images to be converted into 3D and manipulated on the screen of any tablet.
Another much coveted gadget is the Display Air, a device able to display multimedia content such as pictures and videos in the air. Cold water vapour shoots out of a stand to create a moving display, which can also then track finger movement through the 1,500 multi-touch points with a delay of less than 0.2 seconds. A camera behind the display recognises movements with an accuracy of 1cm.

Robots in Russia: Moscow’s FEDOR space robot can fire two guns at the same time - TomoNews
MOSCOW — Russia last month published a video demonstrating the gun-shooting ability of an experimental robot they eventually hope to see on board the International Space Station.
Tweeted last month by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin, the video features The Final Experimental Demonstration Object Research robot, or FEDOR for short. It shows the machine accurately firing two pistols at the same time.
Come 2021, Moscow expects to see FEDOR models aboard the ISS and helping cosmonauts tackle space missions, RT reported.
The robot can function automatically or can be controlled by a person.
Initially developed for rescue operations, Russia now hopes to use FEDOR for military and educational purposes as well, RT reported.

Moscow's Rublyovo-Arkhangelskoye District Mega Project: Russia's Incredible Future Smart City
Moscow's Rublyovo-Arkhangelskoye district Mega Project: Russian New Smart City
Moscow's new Rublyovo-Arkhangelskoye district, designed by Zaha Hadid Architects and Pride Architects, will be a people-centric sustainable smart city.
Located to the west of Russia's capital city, the 460-hectare site will be turned into a mixed residential, business and culture hub.
We developed a people-centric design for a smart interconnected city that brings people together not only through innovative technology but also through organising the public realm, said Christos Passas, project director at Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA).
ZHA alongside Pride Architects – a studio based in Russia – consulted studies about happiness whilst masterplanning the district, concluding that building communities, access to nature and environmentally friendly design were key factors.
ZHA has proposed a staged development process, so residents can become adjusted to the new technology and integrate properly. Over a third of the smart city will be given over to parkland and forest, with a large lake in the centre.
Smarter energy structures are defining feature of smart cities. The architects used the EDF Group's platform for simulating energy use in urban scenarios to optimise how local sustainable energy sources will be used to power the city's technology effectively.
Moscow's population currently stands at 12.4 million, an increase of 30 per cent in the past 20 years. The new district is designed to ease the pressure without curtailing the city's growth.
Rublyovo-Arkhangelskoye will be able to house 66,500 new residents when complete. It will also provide 800,000 square metres of office space for Moscow's growing financial consulting, legal and auditing sectors.
It will be connected to Moscow via a 12 mile metro line. The railway will begin construction in 2020 and connect to Moscow's Shelepikha interchange station.
Smart cities are seen by many as the future of urban environments. In America a cryptocurrency millionaire has announced plans to build a smart city using blockchain technology in the Nevada desert, and the Saudi Arabian government is investing £382 billion in a fully automated city filled with robots.

Russia launch Soyuz rocket with humanoid robot on board
The Russia's space agency have released eerie footage of their human-like android which will board the International Space Station, next week. Nicknamed Fedor - which stands for Final Experimental Demonstration Research - the anthropomorphous machine was seen undergoing a battery of stress-tests at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, last month. Dubbed Putin's robo-naut, footage shows the cyborgs being able to determine targets and capable of honing in on specific points, such as steering wheels, which will surely come in handy.
