Union Pacific 8378 - Westbound Autorack - Rochelle Railroad Park - Rochelle IL
July 21 2019 was one of many jam packed days along the Union Pacific Geneva Subdivision. In just under 3 hours over 20 trains came through the small towns of Maple Park, Creston, and Rochelle. While in Rochelle at the Rochelle Railroad Park we also see a few BNSF trains coming through which included some interesting units such as a CEFX Leased Unit and some CSX Power. Later in the day we also see a special Military Train coming westbound through Creston Illinois with a Union Pacific SD70 leading a duo of Norfolk Southern units. Railfanning Rochelle, IL on 9/24/16 part 2.
Part 2 of Railfanning Rochelle, IL on 9/24/16.
[4K] Railfanning Rochelle, IL on 9/23/17: arrowedges, SD70ACe-t4s, foreign power, and more!
I decided to record in 4K for something different, but I won’t be doing it a lot since videos take a long time to upload to my computer and YouTube. I hope you enjoy the video!
On 9/23, we went to Rochelle for the day for railfanning. It was busy on both lines, which was nice compared to the quiet on the Aurora subdivision lately. Included in the video are Union Pacific’s arrowedge containers that they are putting on their long-distance intermodal trains (I haven’t been on the UP recently to see them), lots of foreign power including some NS high hood geeps hidden behind the first BNSF meet, and two SD70Ace-t4s, the first non-demonstrators I’ve seen. I have another short video coming out soon from that day, and lots more to upload.

Rochelle Railroad Park, Rochelle, IL review
We took a family trip to the Rochelle Railroad Park. It's where the BNSF and Union Pacific tracks cross. They say that in 24 hrs, 120 trains pass through there. We were there for one hour and saw 6 trains. It's a nice trip. About an hour from Chicago. There's a gazebo where you can eat lunch and a gift shop where you can listen to the dispatchers or view the real time movements of the trains on monitors. If you have a kid who's into trains, they'll love it.
700th subscriber special Part 2/3: Snow at the Rochelle Railroad Park in April 04/15/18
The second part of my 700th subscriber special consists of my visit to the Rochelle Railroad Park. Even though it's April it sure hasn't felt like it with more snow and clouds than sun. At first like always it was slow then it was non-stop action the last 14 trains in this video all came through in about a 2-3 hour period. Plenty of power on the Union Pacific including a couple C40-8Ws and a C41-8W. Enjoy and don't forget to comment and subscribe!!!!!

Illinois Adventure #1405 Rochelle Railroad Park
The story of railroads in Rochelle begins in 1854 when the Air Line Railroad was completed between Chicago and the town of Lane (Lane was the first name of Rochelle). The railroad later became the Chicago and North Western and today is owned by the Union Pacific (UP). Sixteen years later the Chicago & Iowa Railroad was built through Rochelle in 1870 and it crossed over the Air Line Railroad between 11th Street and 12th Street. The railroad was later called the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy before becoming the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF). The present BNSF depot on Main Street was built in 1921 and replaced the original 1890 Depot. For many years both railroads had daily passenger service to Chicago or the West Coast, but the last passenger service in Rochelle ended in 1971. Today these two railroads daily haul millions of tons of merchandise on at least 80 to 90 trains a day through Rochelle in a 24-hour period.

Railfanning Rochelle Railroad Park and back to Chicago!
This was a big trip for me, I went out to visit a Union Pacific Engineer and some friends to railfan a lot, and here are all the shots from the park and on the way back home. Given that this was a weekend with the shots in this video, it wasn't as busy as it would have been a weekday. As mentioned in the beginning, it was cold (between -10 and 10 above about) and snow still on the ground with freezing rain and slush puddles and ice ALL over the place. Lot of people slipping more than usual this winter even with being cautious. Mostly BNSF Dash9-44CWs, ES44AC/C4s and UP SD70Ms, SD70ACes, ES44ACs the whole time, but there was occasional cool or older power. On Sunday I met up with some more friends at the Wheaton Train show, the usual went on, and still just cold outside. Went home on Metra will 2 friends and overall this is a must do again! Big thanks to Dave Hawley again!
