Were initiating our series highlighting greenroofs in the U.S., starting with one of my own designs here in Alpharetta, GA, at the beautiful and award-winning Rock Mill Park. Created for residents to enjoy as they walk or bike through the Big Creek Greenway, the city-owned park was designed to celebrate stormwater and educate visitors about its many low impact development best management practices, including The Greenroof Pavilion and Greenroof Trial Gardens.

Natural Rock Slides at Poole's Mill Bridge Park

One of our favorite parks to visit just North of Atlanta is Poole's Mill Bridge Park. Bring a picnic and a towel because you're going to want to get wet playing on the natural rock water slides.

Located in Ballgound, Georgia Pooles Mill Park features a beautifully preserved covered bridge.

Vickery Creek Hiking Trail + Old Mill + Ruins + Dam Roswell Georgia

A covered bridge. Civil war mill ruins. A towering waterfall that pours from a historic spillway dam. There’s just a lot to love about the Vickery Creek Trail at Roswell Mill: it’s scenic, shady, and makes a great in-town hike or moderate trail run.

This five-mile adventure explores the historic Roswell Mill and the surrounding rolling forest in Roswell, Georgia. It’s one of the best hikes in the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area parks near Atlanta, though its trails don’t follow the actual banks of the Chattahoochee River. Instead, this hike explores the historic remains of Roswell Mill and visits the mill’s spillway dam waterfall on a Chattahoochee River tributary. The 5+ mile trail network hikes through beautiful, rolling forest and catches views of the rushing dam waterfall from a steep rock bluff.

Hiking Sope Creek Park Trail Paper Mill Ruins Marietta Georgia

Tucked into a high-end neighborhood just outside Atlanta, Sope Creek Park offers over 3 miles of hiking, mountain biking and running trails. The Sope Creek Trail travels to the multi-story ruins of a paper mill, destroyed by Union troops during the Civil War. Beside the ruins, Sope Creek flows wide and shallow, coursing through angular shoals under a canopy of trees towards the wide Chattahoochee River just downstream.

Cooling off at Poole's Mill Bridge Park

Stone Mountain Loop Trail

The other day it occurred to me that I have never posted a video exclusively of the Stone Mountain Loop Trail. I decided it was time. Join me on a 4.5 mile hike around the most popular trail at Stone Mountain State Park in North Carolina. Enjoy the views of a homestead, waterfalls, summit views, and wildlife along the trail (with a flashback to a rattlesnake encounter this summer).
