Rock River Thresheree 2018
Please, come and take a look at the Rock River Thresheree! This living history festival has been held near Edgerton Wisconsin every Labor Day weekend for over fifty years! I go to see the steam tractors, but as my tour shows, there are many other things to see and do while you are there. If you like machines, or gizmos, or antiques, you will enjoy seeing massive ancient machines come to life with billowing smoke and steam. I could spend hours just watching at the saw mill. This is a long video, but as it was recorded in 4k , you'll be able to see a lot of detail as the camera rolls. Please also take a look at my Thresheree Playlist which documents a lot of the individual machines.

Rock River Thresheree 2013
The 2013 Rock River Thresheree was held at Thresherman's Park in Edgerton, WI. Taped August 31, 2013 by JATV Media Services.
John Horton purchased his first engine when he was 16 years old and, from that time on, always had a steam engine or two around. About 1955, he purchased an Advance Rumely from rural Stoughton threshing ring. The engine had been parked after the last man able to operate it passed away. August Handtke, his neighbor, remarked,
Before I die, I'd like to see threshing done the old way.
Horton, his son Jack and his neighbor August Handtke repaired the engine and decided to run it for threshing that year. They invited the public as well as local television and newsreel cameras to show up on the afternoon of Friday, July 27, 1956. About 100 spectators came, including reporters from the Edgerton Reporter, Janesville Gazette, Wisconsin State Journal and other newspapers.
In 1958 and 1959, the show was basically a fundraiser for the local Fulton Church. In 1960, the church turned the show over to the steam enthusiasts and the show was moved to American Legion Park in Edgerton. That same year, the club reorganized as Rock River Thresheree, Inc., and we held our first election of officers. 1961 marked our first land purchase (part of our present Threshermen's Park). We were granted non-profit status in 1965.
2014 Rock River Thresheree Piledriver
Recorded at the 2014 Rock River Thresheree. They were moving the piledriver and getting it ready to load a new log into. This is the first time I had seen any of this done in the many years that I have gone here. There's nothing like the raw power of steam and the sound of that steam whistle! I apologize for the sound, the timing is off a bit.
Family Fun at the 63rd ANNUAL ROCK RIVER THRESHEREE (Steam, Tractors, Good Food, and Flea Market)
We made rope , road camels, drove tractors, visited the flea market, and ate some good food while hanging out at the Rock River Thresheree. The event happens in August on Labor Day weekend, We have been going for over 5 years. Something new to see every time. A real trip through history and loads of fun. I would recommend a visit to anyone. Also make sure you take a ride on the Cannonball Express. A beautifully restored and running steam engine train. I leave a link in the below so you can check it out for yourselves.

U. S. Cavalryman (Reenactor) Circa 1916
This young man was portraying one of my favorite Era's in American History. A cavalryman from 1916 might have served in the Mexican Punitive Force which tried to stop Pancho Villa. The equipment he has is authentic and represents the technological changes that the U.S. Army was going through just prior to World War One. His rifle is a 1903 Springfield (bolt action) His pistol is caliver 45 and semi-automatic (I get the ID wrong when I speak). The uniform, saddle, bridle, etc., are all representative of the ERA.
(The Rock River Thresheree has been an annual; event since 1956. I would describe the Thresheree as a type of living history museum where an incredible amount of exhibits are often portable and interactive. Steam machinery that could easily be one hundred years old is seen throughout the large fairgrounhds which are located just south of Edgerton Wisconsin. There is an emphasis on agtriculture as seen by the large quantity of decades old farm tractors but there are also harvesting machines and many smaller engines. Other sights include the working steam train; The Rock River Cannonball, a sawmill powered by a steam tractor, and several large sheds that house incredibly huge stationary engines. Historic re-enactors host battle re-enactments and the occasional train robbery. However, the most dominant exhibit is probably the steam pile driver. When that machine is running everyone in the area can hear and feel it! I have been to the Thresheree many times uin the last fifty years and I would say that it is a worthwhile trip and will be enjoyed by all!)

Successful Demolition of I-39/90 Bridge Piers at Rock River
WisDOT staff and construction crews braved the frigid temperatures on January 4, 2017 to remove the final pieces of the old I-39/90 northbound bridge over the Rock River, near Edgerton.
Numerous safety policies and procedures were in place for the traveling public and construction crews. With the assistance of the State Patrol, Interstate traffic was slowed to approximately 20 mph about seven miles away in each direction. Beneath the bridges, a WisDOT geotechnical engineer, bridge maintenance, and demolition crews watched from a safe distance as three consecutive blasts occurred under protective tire mats.
The demolition was successful, and I-39/90 traffic resumed normal travel speeds within six minutes of starting the slowdown operation.
Over the past month, extensive coordination and communication occurred between project staff, contractors, State Patrol, WisDOT Central Office, and local and state agencies.
A similar operation is expected in the future for the I-39/90 southbound bridge over the river.
Built in the early 1960s, crews are reconstructing these bridges as part of the I-39/90 Expansion Project, between Beloit and Madison. Visit for more information.

Very Old Farm Machinery In Operation
Both of my parents were involved with agriculture and I grew up listening to their stories of how things used to get done. At The Rock River Thresheree I could actually see some of those things with my own eyes! I recorded some clips of some really old gas tractors pulling an array of harvest gear, and I also caught a bunch of clips showing how steam tractors can plow a large field. Please enjoy this living history!
