Rock hounding (crystals) at Highway 97 and Westside road.
Took the kids out rock hounding today, looking for zeolites, quartz crystals, Amethyst, and found some citrine too. The new Westside road interchange off highway 97 in West Kelowna has blasted out some of Mount Boucherie's basalt revealing many fresh vugs full of all sorts of Silicates. Some quite exciting.

These 40-acre parcels are 12 miles outside of Deming, New Mexico (pop. 20,000) nestled in the foothills on the east side of the Florida Mountains. Footage was taken during the dry winter season, while the months of July and August would show the same countryside as a lush green after our summer rains begin.

NMSU Dryland Cropping Systems Research
Murali Darapuneni is an assistant professor of semi-arid cropping systems in the New Mexico State University College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences. Part of the Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences, he is researching efficient dryland cropping systems at the NMSU Agricultural Science Center at Tucumcari. Realizing that the projected world population is 10 billion by 2056, Darapuneni understands the importance of having enough crops to feed all the people on earth. He is searching for an efficient cropping system method in the semi-arid conditions of Eastern New Mexico. His research may be applicable to most of the semi-arid environments in the Western United States, where dryland conditions are predominant.
