My approach to Rocks state park, MD. A really good day to be out there in the park. It's an average steep approach, nothing difficult about it [though your heart will notice] but the view at the top is worth it.
Falling Branch Falls - Maryland - Josh's Video Waterfall Guides Episode One
A video guide to Maryland's Falling Branch Falls (aka Kilgore's Falls, Kilgore's Rock, and Falling Creek Falls) on Falling Branch of Deer Creek in northern Harford County, Maryland. The first in a long-requested series of video guides for waterfalls. I'll be starting in Maryland with Falling Branch Falls, the last waterfall I visited after leaving the state in 2005.
According to the Maryland Geological Survey, Falling Branch Falls is Maryland's second tallest *free-falling* waterfall. In other words, it is the second tallest non-cascading waterfall. It is formed where Falling Branch cuts through Kilgore's Rock.
The video shows how to get to the parking area, the trail to the lower and upper views of the falls, and includes lots of video and commentary. It runs a little short of an hour.
The address for the parking lot at the falls is: 1026 Falling Branch Rd, Pylesville, MD 21132
More information can be found at:
Additional information can be found at:
The falls are located in a 67-acre property attached to Rocks State Park administratively, although they are geographically separate parcels. More information about the park can be found at:

Fort Frederick State Park - CHECK OUT THIS FORT!!!
Today we stop at Fort Frederick State Park in Maryland. This is a cool state park with an even cooler fort. We were there after hours so they weren't re-enacting anything but we could still walk in the fort and check it out. We pretty much camped on the Potomac River which was awesome!

Historic Maryland: Eden Mill
The next in our Historic Maryland Series takes us to Eden Mill in Harford County, a onetime flour/grist mill.
This mill was built in 1798 by Elijah Stansbury and operated through 1964; the last operator being James T. Smith. From 1883 through 1894 it operated as Andersons Mill and by 1896 a deed referred to it as Eden Mills Flour Mill. Operations ceased in 1964 when Mr. Smith died, and in 1965 was acquired by Harford County Parks & Recreation. The nature center opened in 1991.
From 1919 to 1927 electricity was generated at the mill which supplied power to the Pennsylvania communities of New Park and Fawn Grove, as well as to the mill. The turbines were supplied by a lake on adjacent Deer Creek.
These days, it's recreation instead of industry. Some great hiking trails abound, and the lake makes for some great boating and canoeing. The nature center has many interpretive displays and is well worth the visit, and the park volunteers are well informed. But-there is a tad-bit of 'industry' still going on in the form of honey production, so 'bee' there!
So, join us for another mill tour! We'll also have a look at the lake and one of the trails, and get rare access to the mill's upper floors! History can be fun too!
