[ Remnants of the 1964 World's Fair ]
Rocky Point originally opened in 1847 with one of their main attractions being their dining hall that overlooked Narragansett Bay. Later on the park began adding rides and attractions to give visitors something else to do other than eat. Over the years, Rocky Point became one of the most popular tourist destinations in all of New England. In the 1990's the park began to fall on hard times causing the park to close in 1995.
Rocky Point sat abandoned until some teenagers hooligans decided to set the place on fire in the early 2000's which caused officials to demolish most of the remains of the old amusement park. But not everything was lost and in this video we are going to so you what remains at Rocky Point. So come along and join us as we go explore the remnants of an old abandoned theme park in Rhode Island.

Rocky Point Amusement Park SkyLiner Memory Ride by Drone -Warwick, Rhode Island
Rocky Point Park was first conceived by Captain William Winslow in the 1840s. By 1847, he had purchased a part of the land and began to offer amusements and serve dinner.
From the 1950s through the mid-1990s, Rocky Point Park was one of the most popular attractions in Rhode Island. It featured rides such as the Skyliner, Corkscrew Loop Roller Coaster, Log Flume, and the Freefall, which fell 13 stories at 55 mph. It also featured the Shore Dinner Hall, famous for its clamcakes, steamers, lobsters, and New England Clam Chowder, which seated over 4,000 patrons at a time.
In later years, Rocky Point's locally-famous logo of a lobster tipping his hat was used in much of the park's advertising both in TV commercials and in print. The park's circa 1963 Castle of Terror dark ride (renamed House of Horrors in 1970) was one of its most popular rides and lives on in social media conversation decades after its demolition.
In addition to its amusement rides, Rocky Point also occasionally hosted concerts in its Palladium ballroom. Musical artists who performed at the venue during its final 30 years of operation include: The Yardbirds (1967), Big Brother and the Holding Company with Janis Joplin (1968), Sly & The Family Stone (1969), REO Speedwagon, AC/DC and Thin Lizzy (1978), Blue Öyster Cult (1984), Samantha Fox (1989), Jane's Addiction (1991), Ramones (1991), Red Hot Chili Peppers and Pearl Jam (1991), Pixies (1991), Weird Al Yankovic (1992), Sonic Youth (1992), Dream Theater (1993), Peter Frampton (1994), Lush and Weezer (1994), and the venue's final concert, Roomful of Blues (1994).

Winter time fun at Rocky Point Park Warwick Rhode Island
Just me goofing off in my truck during the boring winters at Rocky Point.
Yeah the truck stalled, I was running a Edelbrock carb that really did not like four wheeling. Hard change of directions or steep hills and it would flood out.
You Must Be This Tall: The Story of Rocky Point Park
The film that Michael Janusonis of the Providence Journal claims, is not to be missed, is an exhilarating ride; a poignant and often hilarious look at one of New England's great landmarks. YMBTT takes you all the way back to 1847, to the early beginning of Rocky Point Park, then flies fast like a roller coaster to its current, demolished state. Along the way we meet colorful and insightful characters who rode the rides, who ran the rides, and who kept the park running for all those years. You'll see hurricanes and Presidents, the Yo-Yo and the Flume, and you'll just about be able to taste those clam cakes and that chowder from the World's Largest Shore Dinner Hall.
The feature film on Rocky Point Park is now here on YouTube!

MEMORIES OF ROCKY POINT
The Rocky Point Amusement Park was a highly popular amusement park on the Narragansett Bay side of Warwick, Rhode Island. It operated from the late 1840s until it closed in 1995. The following year, the park filed for bankruptcy.
From the 1950s through the mid 1990s, Rocky Point Amusement Park was the most popular attraction in Rhode Island. It featured rides such as the Skyliner, Corkscrew Loop Roller Coaster, Log Flume, and the Freefall.
On June 25, 2011 Rocky Point was once again opened to the public and features a new asphalt mile long walking path along the shore of Narragansett Bay, although much of the area of the original amusement park itself is still fenced off and closed to the public. However, the City of Warwick and the State of Rhode Island are moved forward with plans to purchase the remainder of the land and make it the jewel of the State Park system.
February 13, 2013 became a landmark day as roughly 82 acres of the land was preserved when U.S. District Court Ronald R. Lagueux approved the state's purchase of the land for roughly $9.65 million.
Using bond money, the state Department of Environmental Management is purchasing the land from the U.S. Small Business Administration, the court-appointed receiver for the landmark park that was bankrupt when it closed in the mid 1990's.

Rocky Point Park Reborn project commercial
Welcome to Warwick, RI
In 1847, Rocky Point opened to the public for the first time. Famed for its beautiful location on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean this was Rhode Islands premier attraction. As the park developed, it built numerous roller coasters with the help of the Phillidelphia Tobbaggon Company, including the Wildcat and the Flying Turns. The Shore Dinner Hall was esteemed to have the best seafood in the state. All of this changed in 1938, when Hurricane Bob destroyed the entire park, including its world class woodies.
The park remained closed for 9 years. Finally the park reopened, with a new shore dinner hall. The park grew and grew and world class rides like the log flume in 1970, The Zyclon Coaster in the early 70s, the Corckscrew, an Arrow corkscrew in 1984, and the freefall in 1988.
The park seemed to be on the high road. But financial troubles ravaged the park through the 1990s. Finally, in 1996 the park filed for bankruptcy. The park was closed and the rides were auctioned off in 97. All that was left of over a 100 years of history were some decaying buildings, an old gondola ride, and the beachfront.
