Me doing the rocky steps at the Museum of Art in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
The 72 front steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania have become known as the Rocky Steps as a result of their appearance in the three-Oscar-winning film Rocky, and four of its sequels, II, III, V and Rocky Balboa, in which the eponymous character runs up the steps to the song Gonna Fly Now. Tourists and local residents often mimic Rocky's famous climb, a metaphor for an underdog or an everyman rising to a challenge.[1] A bronze statue of Rocky was briefly placed at the top of the steps for the filming of Rocky III. This statue is now located at the bottom right of the steps and is a popular photo-op for visitors.

'Rocky' Statue Reopens At Philadelphia Museum of Art
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Yo, tourists! The Rocky statue in Philadelphia is open again, and ready for your selfies. The statue of the fictional boxer is located near the Philadelphia Museum of Art, where Sylvester Stallone runs up the steps while training for big fights in various Rocky movies. The statue was off-limits to tourists at the end of April while crews tore down a temporary stage erected for the NFL Draft. Then it was taken off limits for two weeks while the city's Department of Parks and Recreation worked to improve the surrounding area. Access to the statue reopened Wednesday.

The Rocky Statue and the “Rocky Steps” are undeniably two of the most popular attractions in Philadelphia.
A near constant flow of people arrive daily to snap a picture with the Rocky statue at the bottom of the stairs at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and then hustle up the museum’s grand stairway to try their hand at the famous two-arms-raised salute.

Rocky Steps
The 72 stone steps before the entrance of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have become known as the Rocky Steps as a result of the scene from the film Rocky. Tourists often mimic Rocky's famous climb, a metaphor for an underdog or an everyman rising to a challenge. A bronze Rocky statue was briefly situated at the top of the steps for the filming of Rocky III. This statue, now located at the bottom right of the steps, is a popular photo opportunity for visitors. The top of the steps offers a commanding view of Eakins Oval, the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, and Philadelphia City Hall.
In 2006, Rocky creator Sylvester Stallone recounted the genesis of the iconic scene: (while filming the 1976 movie) the film crew, bound by a tight budget, identified the steps one night while searching for filming locations around the city. Stallone first thought Rocky should carry his dog Butkus up the steps, but the big bull mastiff proved too heavy for the scene to work. Still, the view from the top of the stairs inspired him to reshoot the scene without the dog. Also in Rocky Balboa, Rocky lifts his dog Punchy when he reaches the top of the steps. The closing credits of Rocky Balboa show a montage of dozens of people running up the steps.
This scene was one of the first uses in a major film of the Steadicam, a stabilized camera mount that allows its operator to walk and even climb steps while smoothly filming.

Don't miss the HOTTEST NEW TRAILERS:
CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Rocky's (Sylvester Stallone) intense training pays off as he ascends the steps and overlooks the City of Brotherly Love.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone), a Philadelphia boxer, is but one step removed from total bum-hood. A once-promising pugilist, Rocky is now taking nickel-and-dime bouts and running strongarm errands for local loan sharks to survive. Even his supportive trainer, Mickey (Burgess Meredith), has given up on Rocky. All this changes thanks to Muhammad Ali-like super-boxer Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers). With the Bicentennial celebration coming up, Creed must find a Cinderella opponent for the big July 4th bout -- some unknown whom Creed can glorify for a few minutes before knocking him cold. Rocky Balboa was not the only Cinderella involved here: writer/director Sylvester Stallone, himself a virtual unknown, managed to sell his Rocky script (one of 35 that he'd written over the years) on the proviso that he be given the starring role. Since the film was to be made on a shoestring and marketed on a low-level basis, the risk factor to United Artists was small. For Stallone, this was a make-or-break opportunity -- just like Rocky's million-to-one shot with Apollo Creed. Costing under a million dollars, Rocky managed to register with audiences everywhere, earning back 60 times its cost. The film won several Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
