Brouwerij Rodenbach in Roeselare
Rodenbach Alexander (2018) | Brouwerij Rodenbach | Beer Review | #382
For today's review, I'll be taking a look at a beer from Brouwerij Rodenbach, and it's their Rodenbach Alexander, the 2018 vintage. This is a Flanders Red Ale that is macerated with sour cherries and aged in oak foeders. I've never had this one before, but Rodenbach is an amazing brewery, so I can't wait to see how much I enjoy this one!
Commercial Description:
RODENBACH Alexander is brewed at the RODENBACH brewery in Roeselare, in the province of West Flanders. This mixed fermentation beer consists of two thirds beer that was matured in oak casks for 24 months and one third young beer, and has been subjected to maceration with sour cherries.
This extraordinary beer with its unique, balanced palate, complex finish and subtle fruit and wood notes is undoubtedly one of the best sour ales RODENBACH has ever created. It was brewed for the first time in 1986 on the occasion of Alexander Rodenbach's 200th birthday and is now back by popular demand to the delight of beer lovers here and abroad. Its aftertaste is reminiscent of a Burgundy wine and its freshness makes this beer the perfect aperitif or accompaniment to cheeses or dessert.

Rodenbach Caractère Rouge | Brouwerij Rodenbach | Beer Review | #447
For today's review, I'll be taking a look at another beer from Brouwerij Rodenbach, and it's their Rodenbach Caractère Rouge. This is a Flanders Red Ale that is aged in oak foeders and then macerated with cherries, raspberries and cranberries. Full disclosure, I've had this one before -- and it's one of, if not my favorite Sours of all-time -- but having this again and properly reviewing it sounded like a good idea to me, baby! Let's see what this one has to offer!
Commercial Description:
RODENBACH Caractère Rouge was developed in 2011 in collaboration with top chef Viki Geunes (2 Michelin stars). This exclusive beer is created by adding an extra six months' fermenting maceration with cherries, raspberries and cranberries to beer that has already undergone two years' maturation in oak casks. The result is an exceptional RODENBACH with a 7% alcohol by volume. RODENBACH Caractère Rouge is vinous with a very complex, fruity nose of raspberry and cherry combined with notes of wood and caramel. The undertone consists of an aroma of violets, leather and a hint of tobacco. The taste is rather sour but exceptionally pure. With its long, clean aftertaste and its unique combination of delicacy and strength, RODENBACH Caractère Rouge is reminiscent of a crisp Burgundy wine. This noble beer is unique and exclusive. In his restaurant 't Zilte, Viki Geunes combines this willful beer with his sophisticated gastronomic creations.
