The Adams River Salmon Run in 2018 at Tsutswecw Provincial Park (Roderick Haig Brown) BC
We spent an afternoon watching the Salmon Run in BC, Canada. It was our second visit, and it never disappoints. See what it's like to see the Sockeye Salmon run in person!
Adams River by Roderick Haig-Brown Provincial Park 2014 Sockeye Salmon Run - Sept 4 2014 - YouTube
IMPORTANT NOTE - PARK IS NOT OPEN AS OF SEPTEMBER 4, 2014
Saw vehicles turning in, only to turn around and leave as the mega sockeye salmon are in the river now. Very disappointing about the park not ready for this once in a four year event.
Roderick Haig-Brown Provincial Park - Park facility improvements are on schedule and will be completed by October 2014
These salmon were filmed Sept 4, 2014 at Hiuihill Creek a small creek off Adams River about 5 minutes from Roderick Haig-Brown Provincial Park.

Adams River Sockeye Run 2014
Every four years in the Shushwap region of British Columbia, Canada the Sockeye Salmon Run up Adam's River. This video was taken early in the season with only about 5% of the run was there. In the coming weeks it'll get even busier.
Sockey come from the First Nation word Sau Kai which means chief. The males have the large hump on the back and the females are narrower, but still that stunning red colour.

Adams River Sockeye Salmon Spawning October 2010
Sockeye salmon return to the Adams River in British Columbia, Canada, after spending four years at sea. One of the largest salmon runs in history occurred on the Adams River in October 2010. I was fortunate to spend a few days just after the peak of the run in Roderick Haig Provincial Park admiring and photographing these incredible fish as they reached the culmination of their lives.
2014 Sockeye Salmon of British Columbia (Scotch Creek) - YouTube
Scotch river enumeration fence has had approx. 100,000 fish through it, far less than the expected 500,000 to 1.4 million that was expected. Still it is an amazing sight, all the salmon fighting their way up to spawn and keep the cycle of life going...

Sockeye Salmon - Ucluelet Vancouver Island to Scotch Creek British Columbia - YouTube
From commercial and sport fisherman, orca's, seals, bears, eagles and First Nations the sockeye salmon has an important place in our world. Sadly their numbers continue to decline, some years the runs of salmon are almost gone.
We learn a lot from first hand encounters with people about the state of our environment.
