Getaway to Block Island #RIBlockIsland
A serene and scenic day trip to Block Island in Rhode Island where we rode the Block Island Speed Ferry, had lunch at the National Hotel during restaurant week, toured the Southeast lighthouse and discovered a scavenger hunt called the Glass Float Project
Mohegan Bluffs stairway
On a perfect summer-like day with temperatures in the high 70s The Block Island Times took a journey down the 140 wooden steps that comprise the Mohegan Bluffs stairway. Under the direction of Gov. Gina Raimondo, the Department of Environmental Management and the Town of New Shoreham's Highways Department, refurbished the treacherous sandy bottom section of the descent after Raimondo visited the bluffs in August of 2015.
The stairs descend 100-feet to a wooden platform, which provides for a scenic view of the shoreline and the Block Island Wind Farm located about three miles off of the coastline. For more info about the bluffs and its refurbishment go to:

Clayhead Trail
The Block Island Times took a trip down Clayhead Trail on a sunny, breezy September 5th day with temperatures in the mid 70s. Turn up the volume while you watch to hear the natural ambience along the way. At the end of the video it should be noted the trail turns left and continues along the bluffs.
The Clayhead Trail is located three miles from town off of Corn Neck Road and identifiable by a gray stone marker. The 190-acre parcel on the northeast corner of Block Island provides a captivating island perspective. It’s also one of the places where Eben Horton’s glass floats, or orbs as some people call them, have been discovered. Go to: glassfloatproject.com for more information.

1357 Snake Hole Road, Block Island
You may believe that you are on the shores of Ireland, but this home sits in the very private, exclusive neighborhood known to Block Island as Black Rock. “On the Bluff” is a magnificent home that perches itself down Snake Hold Road and captures sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean, with Montauk and the Deep Water Windmills, the first windmill farm off of the coast of the United States.
Located on the Southern bluff of the Island, close to Vail Beach and Black Rock you get a bit of Sunrise and Sunset. Look southeast and be reminded of yesteryear with the iconic “Bit of Heaven” look southwest and observe the acres and acres of the impressive first conservation effort on Block Island, Rodman’s Hollow.
Not only is this water front home located in a highly desired part of Block Island, but the owners have left “no stone unturned” and have outfitted this property with thoughtful well planned design and top of the line finishes. Sit amid furnishings from Seabrook Classic, Wesley Allen, Currey Company and Fix Reed . All adorned with custom made pillows, cushions and bedding from Serena & Lilly . This home is not only ready for you to move into, but makes you feel as if someone knew exactly what you wanted and luxuriously made it happen.
Thoughts and creations were not forgotten for the exterior, the decks are finished with Brazilian IPE decking and Kingsley Bate furnishings. This home also has unobstructed views of enchanting rolling meadows and fields that quietly adorn the Island. Buried power lines were part of the planning and forethought to maintain the unique views this property offers.
On the Bluffs’ main house is a 4 bedroom, 4 bath, sanctuary with an exceptional master suite, a Crew’s Hideout and coordinating twin rooms. The copious master suite has a luxurious full bath, a sitting area and a private office. Feel the luxury down to your toes, while you sleep, read or have-to work. This master suite offers the most astounding ocean views from all windows! Select your setting and ease the stress away.
An architectural gem offers several levels that purposely intend to offer private space while still allowing for everyone to be together. Walk into the eat-in-kitchen, decide to convene in the informal living room or appreciate the outside with the lavish deck. Meander up a few stairs to the more formal living room with built-in window seats and a petite library area. Wherever you decide to inhabit “On the Bluff” you will see and hear the ocean while you play a board game, unwind or take a peaceful nap.
In addition to the main house “On the Bluff” is beautifully accompanied by a newly built cottage. You and your guests will enjoy the privacy and the solitude of this composition of one bedroom, a full bath and a substantial living area all with the same quality décor and sweeping, remarkable views.
This home has attentively considered it all from turn-key maintenance to richly defined décor; once you arrive at “On the Bluff” you will never want to leave.
