VERONA, chaotic JULIET'S HOUSE (Shakespeare's ROMEO AND JULIET), ITALY ????
SUBSCRIBE: - Let's go to the beautiful Italian city of Verona and let's visit the very famous site of Juliet’s House (Casa di Giulietta).
The power of storytelling should never be underestimated. Every year hundreds of thousands of us trek to Verona to see the balcony where Juliet stood while Romeo declared his love. None of us care that it's very possible that Romeo and Juliet were only figments of Shakespeare's imagination. This is the most powerful love story in western culture and we all want to live a little part of its dream – though not its tragic ending.
The house in Verona known as Juliet's house was owned by the family dell Capello, it dates from the 13th century and the family coat of arms can still be seen on the wall. A slight problem is the balcony itself, which overlooks the courtyard – it was added in the 20th century. But that's of no matter to the hundreds of girls who every year step out onto it and gaze below seeking their Romeo among the milling tourists.
Inside the house is a small museum and in the courtyard is a bronze sculpture of Juliet – people rub her right breast for luck. But the ultimate in romantic gesturing is the many love notes stuck on the walls and doors in the entrance to the courtyard.
Italy, a European country with a long Mediterranean coastline, has left a powerful mark on Western culture and cuisine. Its capital, Rome, is home to the Vatican as well as landmark art and ancient ruins. Other major cities include Florence, with Renaissance masterpieces such as Michelangelo’s David and Brunelleschi's Duomo; Venice, the city of canals; and Milan, Italy’s fashion capital.

Viel Spaß in Verona!!!

Juliet’s House in Verona, Italy
Shakespeare’s classic “Romeo and Juliet” concluded thus: “never was a story of more woe than this of Juliet and her Romeo.” Nevertheless the city of Verona has discovered more dough than woe in the tale of these fictional “star-crossed lovers.” Some two million visitors descend each year on Verona, and many of them want to visit “La Casa di Giulietta,” a fourteenth-century Gothic palace and later an inn, which has been repackaged as Juliet’s House. Not surprisingly, the number of visitors to this self-proclaimed “city of love” typically swells during the week around Valentine’s Day.

Juliet’s House Verona and a Verona travel itinerary ????
We incorporated Verona into our train trip itinerary, where we started in Milan and finished in Venice. Top attractions include a 14th Century residence said to be Juliet's House Verona, straight out of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.
There’s plenty of things to do in Verona. It’s not an overwhelming amount of choice though, which we liked. Juliet's balcony and house are pretty touristy, but an important part of the narrative, here, so a sentimental must-do.
We took a local walking tour that included sampling food and wine, and seeing the sights. View the clip to find out more about Verona and its charm.

Verona, Italy: House of Juliet and Castelvecchio
More info about travel to Verona: Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet made Verona, Italy, a popular destination, but a visit to the “House of Juliet” has nothing to do with the fictional star-crossed lovers; all this commotion was started by a clever tour guide back in the '70s as a way to attract visitors to Verona. The Castelvecchio (“Old Castle”) is a reminder of a real family that ran the city of Verona in medieval times: the Scaligeri.
At you'll find money-saving travel tips, small-group tours, guidebooks, TV shows, radio programs, podcasts, and more on this destination.

Verona, Italy Travel Video Guide
Have a look around 'fair Verona' and the stunning town of Sirmione situated on Lake Garda.
In Verona we take a tour up famous Torre dei Lamberti towering over Piazza Erbe. It was built by the Lamberti Family in 1172, and stands as one of the tallest building in all of Verona. With a dominating position the view is incredible if you mange to make it up all 368 steps, or if you are not feeling up to it, there is a lift.
Following on is the stunning Basilica di San Zeno Maggiore, dating all the way back to 4th century, its exterior is a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture, the striped brick and stone basilica was built in honour of the city’s patron saint. As with anything in Verona, it is also tied to the Shakespeare classic Romeo & Juliet, as its crypt was the setting of Romeo & Juliet’s secret wedding.
Possibly the most famous, must-see attraction in the city is the Arena di Verona. It is a true Roman amphitheatre situated in Piazza Bra and was built back in the first century. It is still used today for operas and music concerts. It has been renovated and now has a capacity of 15,000, half as much as it could hold back ancient times.
A trip to Verona would not be compete without visiting Juliet’s Balcony or Casa di Giulietta. This was built as a memorial and museum to celebrate what is quite possibly the most famous love story ever written. If you enter the museum you can step out onto the balcony, or the is a statue of Juliet in the courtyard, it is supposed good luck to touch her right breast.

Never in my wildest dreams did I ever thought of reaching this place and to stand right exactly here in this balcony with my Romeo. I used to just read this tragic play of William Shakespeare during highschool days and now I was finally able to see this romantic place personally, how surreal!

One Day in Verona, Italy: How to See Everything
Start at the bottom and work your way up. You'll see all the Romeo and Juliet sites, including where they lived and where they got married, along with the best views in Verona and amazing churches and piazzas.
Be sure to subscribe to see all our adventures around the world:
As you can see at the end of the video, we had time to spare. So if you want to go up the Torre dei Lamberti or go into the Arena, you can. Just make sure you watch your times, since ALL THE CHURCHES CLOSE AT 5pm, with a siesta break from 1-1:30.
You can easily see the entire city in one day. We started at the bottom (San Zeno and Castelvecchio) and zig-zagged our way up to the top, ending at the viewpoint (at Piazzale Castel San Pietro) for sunset. A little better planning would reduce the amount of walking we did (we covered more than 30,000 steps), but the town is so small that you can get across the entire thing in about 15 minutes.
Here is a list of everything we saw and the corresponding timestamps:
0:27 - Basilica San Zeno (where Romeo and Juliet got married)
3:01 - Castelvecchio
3:20 - Castelvecchio Bridge (aka Ponte Scaligero) - medieval bridge with the world's largest arch (at the time it was built)
3:49 - Piazza Bra
4:01 - Arena di Verona (it opens late on Mondays - at 1:30pm, every other day is 8:30am-7:30pm)
4:22 - Via Mazzini
4:39 - Porta Borsari
5:01 - Arco dei Gavi
5:12 - Lunch at Baccha Bundus (fantastic piadinas)
5:24 - Piazza della Erbe
5:29 - Piazza della Ragione
5:32 - Torre dei Lamberti
5:40 (and 12:00) - Casa di Giulietta (Juliet's House)
6:01 - Porta Leoni
6:10 - San Fermo (upper church)
6:51 - San Fermo (lower church)
7:28 - Casa di Romeo
7:36 - Sant'Anastasia
8:27 - Duomo di Verona (Verona Cathedral
9:10 - St. Elena
9:21 - The baptistry (St Giovanni in Fonte)
9:43 - Scaliger Tombs (Tombs of the della Scala family)
9:53 - Santa Maria Antica
10:02 and 10:38 - Ponte Pietra
10:41 - Piazzale Castel San Pietro (Best view in Verona)
10:54 - Dante's statue in Piazza dei Signori
