Museo etnologico all’aperto di Molde: Romsdal Folk Museum (Norvegia)

Romsdal Folk Museum by Reiulf Ramstad Arkitekter
The Romsdal Folk Museum is an architectonic attraction and a treasured landmark that embodies the history and identity of the entire region. Our intention in this project was to let the structure signal its meaning and function through an architectural expression and the use of local materials. The scale of the building refers to the urbanity and morphology of the town.
The plan geometry is deceptively simple, the characteristic angled shapes are limited to the roof and the external wall, making the circulation and internal organisation clear and flexible. Pine is the primary building material of the museum. Exterior walls and roof are made of solid timber in combination of steel beam when required. Exterior walls and ceilings covered with maintenance-pine relief tempered with bio-based oil.
The Romsdal Folk Museum is a great example of strategic use of low-tech building solutions. It embodies the national policy in Norway to aim for a more sustainable future. The museum is built using Norwegian timber technology and acts as a hub for cultural development. In this building, the people of Molde as well as visitors and tourists are given the opportunity to connect and to build a wider community. Source by Reiulf Ramstad Arkitekter. Info project

Two minutes video of The Molde Panorama
The Molde Panorama is the popular term describing the range of mountains which can be seen from the city of Molde, Norway, from the east to the west, looking south over the fjords Fannefjorden and Moldefjorden/Romsdalsfjorden. The classic viewing point was Rekneshaugen just to the south of the Romsdal Museum near the city center, yet today most people go up to Varden (407 m) in the Molde hills to view the city, the fjords and the mountain range. This video shows the view from Varden.
The Molde Panorama comprises 222 skyline peaks when seen from the panorama guide just above the old Varden log cabin, this according to Mr. Asbjørn Ørjavik's panorama leaflet (1993 edition). Ørjavik also names 89 other peaks, even though these are not mountains in their own right. 196 of the 311 named peaks are over 1000 meter (3281 ft.), and at least 170 of these can be rightfully listed as mountains as such in a climber's record.
160 of the 222 skyline peaks are situated in the Romsdal region, 43 in the Sunnmøre region, and 19 in the Nordmøre region. As from the viewing point the most far away mountain is Snota with a viewing distance of 101.1 km. The highest mountain is Store Venjetind stretching 1852 meters (6076 ft.) into the sky. The more predominant mountain to the east, due to its proximity to Varden, is Skåla (1128 m/3701 ft.), the highest mountain within Molde municipality.

Fantastisk fin dag fra toppen av Tusten i Molde????????
Prikken over den romsdalske i

Reiulf Ramstad Interview: Upon Landscapes
How do landscape and architecture complement each other? We met with Reiulf Ramstad of the award-winning Norwegian architecture office Reiulf Ramstad Architects, who in this video shares how the landscape is the foundation for their architecture, and why he believes that travelling enrichens and expands an architect’s outlook.
Ramstad talks about the inner and the outer landscape, and how the places that we experience become a part of us: “They become like chapters in your life.” For an architect, he feels, it is important to travel in order to “understand the DNA of the place,” and as a result, you always carry this knowledge with you as a part of your “baggage.” In continuation of this, in our global and increasingly nomadic world, Ramstad believes in working in a way that allows you to apply this knowledge that you carry with you: “You’re faced with so many impressions, but the difficulty is to maintain concentration because everything is like a digital cloud. So I believe in working within a format and to be present.”
Reiulf Ramstad (b. 1962) is the founder, Graduate Architect and Design Director of Reiulf Ramstad Architects (RRA) – an award-winning architecture, landscape architecture and design firm founded in 1995 and based in Oslo, Norway. The firm is internationally known for their work in Norway, and their designs range from private residential to large civic works, such as schools, restaurants, public transit stations, museums and tourist routes. They are recipients of prestigious awards such as several Architizer A+ Awards and the Inaugural American Architecture Prize. For more see:
Reiulf Ramstad was interviewed by Lasse Andersson in Molde, Norway in November 2018. The interview is made in collaboration with the Utzon Center in Aalborg, Denmark in connection with the exhibition ‘In the World of an Architect – Reiulf Ramstad Architects’.

Midfjorden Sunset, Molde, Norway
Watch in 4K!
Sunset drone flying at the Moldefjord and from the top of the Varden Molde Panorama mountain lookout.
From the Varden viewpoint, there is a fantastic view over the town of Molde, the fjord with the islands, and the famous Molde panorama with its 222 partially snow-clad peaks. It takes 10 minutes by car or 1 hour on foot along the nature trail from the centre of Molde. At the top you will find the restaurant Vardestua, where you can stop for refreshments.
