Romsey Signal Box
Our visit to Romsey Signal Box, where they don't just allow you to pull levers, they run through entire simulations of trains passing through. This one was one Harry saw, the Flying Scotsman when it went close to our house, from Eastleigh to Kimbridge.
Below the box, a man acts out the part of the other signal boxes, and the trains. It's well worth a visit.

Welcome to Instow Signal Box
A short film about Instow Signal Box on the disused Barnstaple to Bideford railway line in North Devon.
Felton Vowler from Bideford Railway Heritage Centre tells us about the history of the signal box, how the single line tokens were used and what trains ran through Instow Station in the past.
This film was made by James Britt and James Stanbury as part of the North Devon Moving Image youth outreach programme. The students used an iPad Air with iOgrapher case and an iRig pre-amp with professional boom microphone.
With special thanks to Felton Vowler for the interview and showing us around the signal box, Peter Christie and the North Devon Athenaeum for the black and white photograph, Jim McCormack for the train music.
This project was made possible with funding from Devon Community Foundation and North Devon Councillors Community Grants - many thanks for your support.

Swindon Signalling Panel at Didcot - using JMRI to simulate trains!
The amazing newly re-equipped ex BR Swindon Panel is now open
to the public at the Didcot GWR centre. The launch day saw me have a go... my hand and voice sometimes appear on-film! We were shown how to set and cancel routes and much more.
The panel is an NX (eNtry eXit) routing panel, so buttons at the start an end of a route are pressed (actually a know at the start is turned in this case, in the direction of travel, then the next signal in the same direction has an associate button... and you press that! Notice when points change the selected route white lights flash to show they are changing, and that they go red (mostly!) when a track is occupied. Cancelling a route after a train has passed (indicated by a white flashing track segment) is done by returning the start route knob to the normal position. Got all that? You are now a Signaller! (I am an amateur btw... no real knowledge at all... so please take all I say here with a dolop of salt!)
JMRI was used behind the scenes to enable all the buttons and switches to act as sensors to be used to control the interlocking.... I wont say much more as I wasn't involved in the work myself...
Google Swindon Panel Society for more info... great job guys! For now, enjoy!
PS. This is my first video using Vegas Pro... and I will upload more on this when I get a bit more fluent at editing clips
