Baby Elephant Cries for Hours After His Mom Stomps Him - Mama Elephant's Response
Baby Elephant Cries for hours after his mother tries to stomp him to death. A baby elephant cried for five hours after his mother tried to stamp him to death shortly after birth. Horrified zookeepers were forced to intervene after a female elephant attempted to stamp her calf to death shortly after he was born. The female elephant had stepped on baby Zhuangzhuang almost immediately after giving birth at a Chinese zoo on August 30. Vets initially thought it was an accident. They removed the calf to treat his injuries and returned him to his mother two hours later - but she started to stamp on him again. Zoo keepers drove the mother elephant off and took the little elephant away. The rejected elephant calf then reportedly cried for five hours as staff at the Shendiaoshan Wild Animal Natural Reserve Area, in Rongcheng, Shandong province, tried to comfort him. Baby elephant is now making good progress and has been adopted by a keeper. 'The calf was very upset and he was crying for five hours before he could be consoled', a zoo spokesman said. 'He couldn't bear to be parted from his mother and it was his mother who was trying to kill him. They have made a good bond. We don't know why the mother turned on her calf but we couldn't take a chance.'
The mother elephant likely turned on her baby elephant calf because she has gone crazy in the zoo and wants to be free. Maybe this mama doesn't want her baby elephant to live a life in prison. Maybe mama elephant thinks her baby is better off dead than being in jail his whole life. Mama elephant wants all elephants to be free in the wild where they were born to be. Sadly, this baby elephant is doomed to a destiny behind bars, never knowing a life of freedom. We are not blaming the zoos which try to protect and preserve endangered elephants. Sadly, the elephants' wild native habitats are disappearing at alarming rates, forcing the animals to face premature deaths from illegal poachers. Please help preserve wildlife habitats and endangered elephants before the animals disappear forever.
