A walk across Watermills Park to Rooksbury Mill via the Vole Trail. This area is behind our house and is a lovely walk. It's full of wildlife including Otters (not seen in this video though). The last part walking along the tarmac footpath, follows the old Sprat and Winkle railway line.

Cormorants around Mill Lake in Andover
Filmed 18th December 2017. Cormorants on Mill Lake which is part of Rooksbury Mill Local Nature Reserve in Andover, Hampshire. This time of year we get to see a few Cormorants around Mill Lake, they look quite odd when they are drying themselves off. When they are in the tree with their wings stretched out, I have often thought about Count Dracula, yes I watched too many Hammer Horror movies growing up. While watching them there are a few things that make me laugh about them. They like to be in the same tree and often when one has been fishing in the lake and heads back to the tree, sometimes it will land on a branch right next to another Cormorant and then they squabble and one will fly off and back again, sometimes doing this several times. Yet they have the whole tree to land on any branch that is not near another Cormorant :) You can see them fish on their own or in groups, there seems to be more Cormorants this year. I often used to see ten or so, but this year I have counted nineteen so far. using my Camcorder it can be difficult filming them, as I need to be close, but I got this footage the other day, which is ok. They are interesting in many ways to watch. When they are fishing they stay under the water for ssome time and when they pop up it can be quite far from where they dived in. I do realise how lucky I am where I live, the amount of great wildlife I get to watch when on my nature wanders. I hope you enjoy the video if this is a bird that you don't get to see yourself.
