AIIMS or All India Institute of Medical Sciences entrance, New Delhi
Night view of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi
The All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMSes) are a group of autonomous public medical colleges of higher education. AIIMS New Delhi, the fore-runner parent excellence institution, was established in 1956.
AIIMS New Delhi is governed by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Act, 1956.
AIIMS runs a variety of undergraduate courses in medicine, nursing and related areas , and postgraduate courses in virtually all the basic and clinical medicalspecialties and superspecialties. Admissions to these courses are based on entrance examinations conducted all over the country.
AIIMS strives hard to make world class clinical care available to millions of underprivileged citizens of India and neighboring countries. While its magnificent buildings and hi-tech facilities may create a superficial image of elitism, a visit to AIIMS is enough to dispel any such illusion
Its corridors are thronged by patients, most of them too poor to afford quality treatment elsewhere. They come here with high hopes because of the reputation which AIIMS as built up. AIIMS is at present, not a single hospital but a conglomerate of facilities .It has over 1500 spread over the main hospital, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic sciences, Cardiothoracic Centre, Neurosciences Centre, Institute Rotary Centre Hospital and De-addiction Centre. This complex of facilities caters to about 1.5 million outpatients and 80,000 inpatients every year .The number of surgical operations performed at AIIMS last year was over 100,000.

Commands and March: At the IMA passing out ceremony
Cadets gather together in their respective companies and regiments at the IMA passing out parade.
The Indian Military Academy is located in the foothills of the Himalayas, about 8 km west of Dehradun in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand. The campus is on National Highway 72, which separates the North and South Campus. The campus of the academy originally spanned 206 acres which was transferred to the academy along with existing buildings from the Railway Staff College. The academy area is 1,400 acres (5.7 km2).
Built in 1930, the Chetwode Hall on the Drill Square houses the administrative headquarters of the IMA and is also the hub of academic training. It has lecture halls, computer labs and a cafe. On the opposite side of the Drill Square is the Khetarpal Auditorium. Inaugurated in 1982, it has a seating capacity of over 2000.
A newer wing of the Chetwode Hall, added in 1938, houses the Central Library. It has over 100,000 volumes and subscriptions to hundreds of periodicals from across the world, besides multimedia sections. In addition, there are two branch libraries closer to the cadet barracks across the campus.
The IMA Museum on the campus displays artifacts of historic importance. Among other war relics, it displays the pistol of Lieutenant General Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi of the Pakistan Army which he surrendered to Lieutenant General Jagjit Singh Aurora after signing the Instrument of Surrender to end the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971.
The Commandant's residence is a handsome colonial structure with a landscaped 6 acre garden. It offers a panoramic view of the Tons River silhouetted by the Himalayas.
In the earlier years, cadets were accommodated in GC Quarters, consisting of the Kingsley and Collins Blocks. With the growth of the IMA to five battalions of cadets, some battalions are accommodated in barracks in the South and East Campus.
The IMA helipad is located in the Tons Valley in the northwest of the campus.

Bala Quila - Alwar city, Rajasthan
Bala Quila is perched on a 300 meter high steep cliff that lends a majestic view of Alwar. Standing tall since 16th century and looking after Alwar even before the Mughals arrived, the fort is the most notable symbol of the Alwar city. It is said that Emperor Jahangir stayed in this Bala Quila when his father, the great emperor Ashok banished him. The place where Emperor Jahangir stayed in Bala Quila is known as Salim Mahal. Later, in the year 1775, Bala Quila was taken by Pratap Singh, the founder of Alwar state. This huge fort once upon a time had tight security which one can witness with its 15 large and 51 small towers perched on top of the fort.
The fort extends for about 5 km from north to south and 1.6 km from east to west. The fort has six gates, namely, Jai Pol, Suraj Pol, Laxman Pol, Chand Pol, Krishen Pol and Andheri Gate which tells us the story of valor and chivalry of Rajputs. Bala Quila walls are decorated with finely crafted with ancient scriptures and sculptures that would take you back to those golden times. It is a testimonial of Indo-Islamic architecture.
The fort also has Jai Mahal, Nikumbh Mahal, Salim Sagar Pond, Suraj Kund and many temples which even today reflect the grandeur of the bygone era. One can see the splendid view of the city from the watch towers of Bala Quila. One also needs to take the permission of Superintendent of Police, Alwar to visit the fort.
Surrounded by Aravalli Hills, Bala Quila gives a picturesque view and weaves the story of forgotten times. So pack your bags and travel back 1100 years to unfold the lost history.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

How a Redneck Helped Invent Political Consulting: American Politics (2003)
Raymond D. Strother (born October 18, 1940) is a nationally known Democratic political consultant, originally from Port Arthur, Texas.
Strother recalls that from his childhood:
Politics mattered to our lives. People like my family had no other place to turn. I remember as a very small child praying at night to Harry Truman. My father taught me that you had to stand on the picket line ... and you had to get involved in politics — because people like us had no other choice. So I became a political consultant. It was a calling like the ministry. ...Louisiana was my foxhole and I wear the scars on my soul, though I left there in 1980 to move to the District of Columbia. Corruption is an insidious thing. It is a cancer that lives and grows within us without notice. I learned political consulting in Louisiana, perhaps the most corrupt place in America. But strangely enough, most of the people there are not corrupt. They are as good as people everywhere.[2]
Strother's first campaign management role was on behalf of the Democrat Mary Evelyn Parker, who was elected for the first time on February 6, 1968, as the Louisiana state treasurer in a lopside race against the Republican candidate Allison Kolb. In time, Strother became a consultant to U.S. Senators Lloyd Bentsen of Texas, Russell B. Long, John Breaux and Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, John Stennis of Mississippi, Dennis DeConcini of Arizona, Gary Hart of Colorado, Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas, Al Gore of Tennessee, and many others. He worked for gubernatorial candidates Bill Clinton of Arkansas, John McKeithen, Edwin Edwards, and Buddy Roemer of Louisiana, Mark Wells White of Texas, Bill O'Neil of Connecticut, Rudy Perpich of Minnesota, and Roy Barnes of Georgia.[1]
In 1984 and 1988, he supervised the media campaign for Gary Hart's presidential bids, but Hart was eliminated by Walter Mondale and Michael Dukakis. Strother then worked on the Super Tuesday states in 1988 for Al Gore, who ran well only in parts of the American South.[1]
Strother has garnered awards for his documentaries about Senator Bentsen, a former U.S. representative and later the Clinton administration Secretary of the Treasury, and U.S. Representative John Lewis of Georgia, a figure in the civil rights movement.[1]
Strother has been named to the LSU Journalism Hall of Fame, the American Association of Political Consultants Hall of Fame, and, in 2013, to the Louisiana Political Museum and Hall of Fame in Winnfield, located some thirty miles east of Natchitoches, where his college education had begun in 1958. Strother is a former president and chairman of the board of the American Association of Political Consultants. In 1999, he was a resident fellow at the Institute of Politics at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In 2008 he was named a fellow at the Robert J. Dole Institute of Politics at the University of Kansas. He also serves on the Board of Visitors of the LSU College of Journalism.
A new national award named The Strother in his honor was instituted in his honor during 2002 at the University of Akron where he was named an honorary fellow. The designation recognizes political professionals with an exemplary record of achievement in the field itself as well as promoting their expertise in higher education.[1] Northwestern State University awarded him a Doctorate of Humane Letters. An exhibit depicting his life was installed in the Hall of Notable People at the Museum of the Gulf Coast in Port Arthur, Texas.
In 1991, Strother penned a novel, Cottonwood, the story of a dishonest political consultant.[3] His 2005 autobiography is entitled Falling Up, How a Redneck Helped Invent Political Consulting.[4]
In 2000, Strother was an analyst on the Public Broadcasting Service for the Cheney-Lieberman vice presidential debate. He was written essays for the Atlanta Constitution, The New York Times, Newsweek, and the Washington Post. Campaigns and Elections magazine calls Strother the poet of democracy. [1]
Strother is married to the former Sandy Peck, also a native of Port Arthur. They have two children who live in the Washington, D.C. area, Dane Strother and Kristan S. Trugman. The Strothers now reside in Bozeman, Montana, and have a home on the Big Hole River near the unincorporated community of Wise River in Beaverhead County near Dillon, Montana.
